  • Tunnel junctions with AI-N barriers fabricated by microwave-excited plasma were studied. When the Al thickness, nitridation time, and annealing temperature were 1 nm (0.8 nm), 50 s (35 s), and $280^{\circ}C$ ($300^{\circ}C$), TMR ratio and resistance-area product (RA) were 49% (34%) and $3 ${\times}$ 10^4$ $\Omega$$\mu\m^2$ ($1.5 ${\times}$ 10^4$ $\Omega$$\mu\m^2$), respectively. In order to clarify the annealing temperature dependence of TMR ratio, the local transport properties were measured for Ta 5 nm/Cu 20 nm/Ta 5 nm$29_{76}$ $Fe_{24}$ 2 nm/Cu 5 nm/M $n_{75}$$Ir_{25}$ 10 nm/ $Co_{71}$ $Co_{29}$ 4nm/Al-N junction with Al thickness of 0.8 nm and nitridation time of 35s at various temperatures. The increase of TMR ratio after annealing at $300^{\circ}C$, where the TMR ratio of the corresponding MTJ had the maximum value of 34%, can be well explained by the enhancement of the average barrier height ($\Phi_{ave}$) and the reduction of its fluctuation. After further annealing at $340^{\circ}C$, the leakage current was observed and the TMR ratio decreaseded

  • An asymmetric metal-semiconductor-metal Al0.24Ga0.76N ultraviolet (UV) sensor was fabricated, and the effects of local Joule heating were investigated. After dielectric breakdown, the current density under a reverse bias of 2.0 V was 1.1×10-9 A/cm2, significantly lower than 1.2×10-8 A/cm2 before dielectric breakdown; moreover, the Schottky behavior of the Ti/Al/Ni/Au electrode changed to ohmic behavior under forward bias. The UV-to-visible rejection ratio (UVRR) under a reverse bias of 7.0 V before dielectric breakdown was 87; however, this UVRR significantly increased to 578, in addition to providing highly reliable responsivity. Transmission electron microscopy revealed interdiffusion between adjacent layers, with nitrogen vacancies possibly formed owing to local Joule heating at the AlGaN/Ti/Al/Ni/Au interfaces. X-ray photoelectron microscopy results revealed decreases in the peak intensities of the O 1s binding energies associated with the Ga-O bond and OH-, which act as electron-trapping states on the AlGaN surface. The reduction in dark current owing to the proposed local heating method is expected to increase the sensing performance of UV optoelectronic integrated devices, such as active-pixel UV image sensors.

  • We present new results for the local convergence of Newton's method to a unique solution of an equation in a Banach space setting. Under a flexible gamma-type condition [12], [13], we extend the applicability of Newton's method by enlarging the radius and decreasing the ratio of convergence. The results can compare favorably to other ones using Newton-Kantorovich and Lipschitz conditions [3]-[7], [9]-[13]. Numerical examples are also provided.

  • Applying mass model to disk galaxy NGC 300, since the observed rotation curve of NGC 300 is flatter than Toomre's mass model n = 1, two cases are used; obtaining parameters $a^n$ and $b^n$ from the polynomial fitting of the observed rotation curve (case A) and from the least square fitting between the observed rotation curve and model rotation curve (case B). In any case, n bas a fixed value of 1. Brandt's mass model is also discussed. which has a shape parameter n = 1.4. Calculated total mass and total mass to luminosity ratio are $3.3{\times}10^{10}M_{\odot}$, l2.1 for case A and $2.8{\times}10^{10}M_{\odot}$, 10.3 for case B. In case of Brandt's model, the values are $4.2{\times}10^{10}M_{\odot}$ and 15.4. The rise in the local mass to luminosity ratio in the outer part of NGC 300 implies existence of massive halo. Other dynamical properties are also discussed.

  • There is relatively little numerical study on the behavior of eccentrically loaded high strength rectangular concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) slender beam-columns with large depth-to-thickness ratios, which may undergo local and global buckling. This paper presents a multiscale numerical model for simulating the interaction local and global buckling behavior of high strength thin-walled rectangular CFST slender beam-columns under eccentric loading. The effects of progressive local buckling are taken into account in the mesoscale model based on fiber element formulations. Computational algorithms based on the M$\ddot{u}$ller's method are developed to obtain complete load-deflection responses of CFST slender beam-columns at the macroscale level. Performance indices are proposed to quantify the performance of CFST slender beam-columns. The accuracy of the multiscale numerical model is examined by comparisons of computer solutions with existing experimental results. The numerical model is utilized to investigate the effects of concrete compressive strength, depth-to-thickness ratio, loading eccentricity ratio and column slenderness ratio on the performance indices. The multiscale numerical model is shown to be accurate and efficient for predicting the interaction buckling behavior of high strength thin-walled CFST slender beam-columns.

  • In order to get information on more reliable S-wave attenuation characteristics in the Gyeongsang Basin, local earthquake data compiled during the period of years 1997~2000 are analyzed using spectral smoothing technique. Total 421 seismograms recorded at 12 local stations by 68 earthquakes of local magnitudes equal to or greater than 1.4 are examined. Among them, 155 records with good S/N ratio were analyzed. As results, statistically well constrained attenuation characteristics are fecund. Those are; (1) 0.000158362 < $x_{q}$-value (0.000196474) < 0.000234586, (2) 0.00657 < $x_{s}$-value (0.01061) < 0.01465, and (3) 1158 < Q-value (1383) < 1716, where the upper and low limits are values with 95% confidence level. We obtained remarkably well constrained $X_{s}$-value which has not been determined previously. The results can be used as input data far ground motion computations in earthquake engineering.ing.g.

  • Fifteen races resulted from silkworm breeding program at Sericulture Research Department (SRD) were used for hybridization. Fourteen hybrids were obtained and coded as; Giza C, D, R, S, T, U, A, V, W, P, H, L and Qanater 1, 2. The traits of cocoon weight, cocoon shell weight, pupal weight, cocoon shell ratio, silk productivity, fifth instar duration, total larval duration, number of cocoon per liter and pupation ratio were evaluated. Data were analyzed by using three formulae of heterosis over better, mid and check parent values. Hybrids of Giza V, C, N, Qanater 1 and 2 are promising and could be used in commercial cocoon production. Generally, there are some new hybrids can be exploited in commercial scale. Also, the local races can be evolved using the hybridization, inbreeding and selection program.

  • This present article represents the study of the forced vibration of nanobeam of a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNTs) surrounded by a polymer matrix. The modeling was done according to the Euler-Bernoulli beam model and with the application of the non-local continuum or elasticity theory. Particulars cases of the local elasticity theory have also been studied for comparison. This model takes into account the different effects of the interaction of the Winkler's type elastic medium with the nanobeam of carbon nanotubes. Then, a study of the influence of the amplitude distribution and the frequency was made by variation of some parameters such as (scale effect ($e_0{^a}$), the dimensional ratio or aspect ratio (L/d), also, bound to the mode number (N) and the effect of the stiffness of elastic medium ($K_w$). The results obtained indicate the dependence of the variation of the amplitude and the frequency with the different parameters of the model, besides they prove the local effect of the stresses.

  • This paper presents an optimal design for the SPECT reconstruction filter, based on a physical limit of SPECT lesion detection capability. To increase the performance of the filter on lesion detectability, the filter design was focused on increasing the local SyW ratio of a threshold lesion, that was determined by minimum detectable lesion size (MDU) from SPECT lesion detectabllity contrast-detail curve. The proposed filter showed flexible window characteristics of resolution recovery and noise smoothing for MDLSs in the resolution-limited and photon-limited regions, respectively, compennting for the relative impact of the main limitation factors on threshold detectability. The simulated results showed good adaptability of the proposed filter to the changes in physical parameters of photon counts, object contrast, and detector system resolution.

  • Stereo matching algorithm is an essential part in computer vision and photography. Accuracy and computational complexity are challenges of stereo matching algorithm. Much research has been devoted to stereo matching based on cost volume filtering of matching costs. Local stereo matching based guided image filtering (GIF) has a computational complexity of O(N), but is still not enough to provide real-time 3-dimensional (3-D) video services. The proposed algorithm concentrates reduction of computational complexity using the concept of fast guided image filter, which increase the speed up to $O(N/\small{s}^2)$ with a sub-sampling ratio $\small{s}$. Experimental results indicated that the proposed algorithm achieves effective local stereo matching as well as a fast execution time for 3-D video service.
