볼록한 반구면에 충돌하는 원형제트의 열전달 및 유동특성 (Heat transfer and flow characteristics of a circular jet impinging on a convex curved surface)

  • The heat transfer and flow measurements from a convex curved surface to a circular impinging jet have been made. The flow at the nozzle exit has a fully developed velocity profile. The jet Reynolds number (Re) ranges from 11,000 to 50,000, the dimensionless nozzle-to-surface distance (L/d) from 2 to 10, and the dimensionless surface curvature (d/D) from 0.034 to 0.089. The results show that the stagnation point Nusselt number (N $u_{st}$ ) increases with increasing value of d/D. The maximum Nusselt number at the stagnation point occurs at L/d .ident. 6 to 8 for all Re's and d/D's tested. For larger L/d, N $u_{st}$ dependency on Re is stronger due to an increase of turbulence in the approaching jet as a result of the more active exchange of momentum with a surrounding air. The local Nusselt number decreases monotonically from its maximum value at the stagnation point. However, for L/d=2 and Re=23,000, and for L/d.leq.4 and Re=50,000, the stream wise Nusselt number distributions exhibit secondary maxima at r/d .ident. 2.2. The formation of the secondary maxima is attributed to an increase in the turbulence level resulting from the transition from a laminar to a turbulent boundary layer.ndary layer.

비균등 표본화 기법과 음성 부호화로의 응용 (A Nonuniform Sampling Technique and Its Application to Speech Coding)

  • 국소적으로 선형적인 특성을 보이는 음성신호와 같은 신호의 데이터율을 감소시키기 위하여 변곡점 검출에 기반한 비균등 표본화 방법을 제안한다. 국소적인 최대값과 최소값 검출에 기반하여 비균등 표본화를 수행하는 기존의 방법에 비하여 변곡점에 기반한 비균등 표본화는 신호의 기하학적인 특징을 충실히 활용한다. 결과로서, 변곡점 검출에 기반하여 비균등 표본화된 데이터를 보간법으로 처리하면 기존의 방법보다 원시신호를 정밀하게 복원할 수 있다. 컴퓨터 모의실험을 통하여 기존의 최대값/최소값 검출 방법에 비교해서 제안된 변곡점 검출 기반의 비균등 표본화가 약 9~23dB의 신호대 잡음비 개선효과가 있음을 확인하였다. 제안된 변곡점 검출 기반의 비균등 부호화의 유용성을 보이기 위하여 음성신호의 부호화에 적용하였으며, Continuously variable slope delta modulation (CVSD)방법과 성능을 비교하였다. 변곡점 표본은 1로 설정된 플래그와 함께 이진수로 전송되며, 비 변곡점은 플래그만 0으로 설정된다. 음성신호에 따라 약 0.3 ~ 9dB의 신호대 잡음비 개선효과가 있으며, 주관적인 성능지표인 Mean Opinion Score (MOS)는 약 0.5 ~ 1.3 개선되었다.

  • A tongue shows physiological and clinicopathological changes of inner organs. Visual inspection of a tongue is not only convenient but also non-invasive. To develop an automat ic tongue diagnosis system for an objective and standardized diagnosis, the separation of the tongue are a from a facial image and the detection of coatings, spots and cracks are inevitable but difficult since the colors of a tongue, lips, and skin in a mouth as well as those of tongue furs and body are similar. The propose d method includes preprocessing with down-sampling and edge enhancement, over-segmentation, detecting positions with a local minimum over shading from the structure of a tongue, and correcting local minima or detecting edge with color difference. The proposed method produces the region of a segmented tongue, and then decomposes the color components of the region into hue, saturation and brightness, resulting in classifying the regions of tongue furs(coatings) into kinds of coatings and substance and segmenting them. Spots are detected by using local maxima and the variation of saturation, and cracks are searched by using local minima and the directivity of dark areas in brightness. The results illustrate the segmented region with effective information, excluding a non-tongue region and also give us accurate discrimination of coatings and the precise detection of spots and cracks. It can be used to make an objective and standardized diagnosis for an u-Healthcare system as well as a home care system.

이동물체 분리를 위한 Seed 선정 및 영역 확장 알고리즘에 관한 연구 (A Study on Seed Selection and Region Growing Algorithm for Moving Object Segmentation)

  • 본 논문은 이동물체 영역을 신뢰성 있게 분리하는데 기초가 되는 seed를 정확하게 선정하고, 선정된 seed를 중심으로 영역을 확장함으로써 이동물체 영역을 분리하기 위한 방법을 제안한다. 고정된 카메라로부터 입력되는 연속된 영상열로부터 초기의 이동물체가 존재하지 않는 영상을 참고영상으로 하여 입력영상과의 차영상을 구하고 차영상의 히스토그램에서 배경잡음 모델링을 통해 배경잡음을 제거한다. 그리고 배경잡음이 제거된 차영상에서 Local Maxima 들을 이용해 후보 seed를 선정한 후, 이드의 특징값들을 분석하여 이동물체의 seed와 배경의 seed 를 결정하고 이 두 개의 seed를 기반으로 watershed 알고리즘을 적용하여 영역을 확장함으로써 이동물체 영역을 추출한다. 제안된 방법을 실제 상황에서 얻은 다양한 영상열에 적용한 결과, 기존의 영역분리 알고리즘보다 주위 잡음의 영향을 적게 받으며 효과적으로 이동물체를 분리할 수 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • This paper proposes a new method of reducing the processing time and the size of consummimg memories in Hough transform. In this method, only the functional patterns are considered. The candidate points which are accumulated into the parameter space are computed in a many-to-one fashion and the parameter space is quantized dynamically to maintain a fine precision where it is needed. And a coarse-to-fine extraction method is used to reduce the processing time. The many-to-one fashional computation results in a relatively high-densed accumulation of candidate points around the parameter points corresponding to the image patterns in the image space. So, the dynamic quantization procedure can be simplified and the local maxima can be determined easily. And more effective reduction can be obtained as the dimension of parameter space is increased.

  • The mean shift algorithm has achieved considerable success in object tracking due to its simplicity and robustness. It finds local maxima of a similarity measure between the color histograms of the target and candidate image. However, the mean shift tracking algorithm using only color histograms has a serious defect. It doesn't use the spatial information of the target. Thus, it is difficult to model the target more exactly. And it is likely to lose the target during the occlusions of other objects which have similar color distributions. To deal with these difficulties we use both color information and spatial information of the target. Our proposed algorithm is robust to occlusions and scale changes in front of dynamic, unstructured background. In addition, our proposed method is computationally efficient. Therefore, it can be executed in real-time.

An Experimental Study on the Defrosting Behavior of a Fin-Tube Heat Exchanger

  • The effect of various conditions of frosting and defrosting on the defrosting behavior of a fin-tube heat exchanger has been examined experimentally. An electric heater is used for defrosting in a fin-tube heat exchanger. There are several local maxima in the water draining rate. The amount of residual water on the heat exchanger after completion of defrosting is kept constant due to surface tension on the heat exchanger. Without considering degradation of the thermal performance due to the frosting, the defrosting efficiency is improved with increasing amount of frost irrespective of the frosting condition. The defrosting behavior is affected by frosting density as well as frost accumulation, both of which vary with the experimental operating conditions. The heat loss to the surrounding air decreases, and melting and defrosting efficiencies show high values with decreasing heat input.

  • We developed an machine vision method for navigation control of a traveling automatic guided vehicle(AGV) on desired trajectory with guided marks. The formulated EDF accumulates the edge magnitude for edge directions. The EDF has distinctive peak points at the vicinity of trajectory directions due to the directional and the positional continuities of desired trajectory. Examining the EDF by its shape parameters of the local maxima and symmetry axis results in identifying whether or not change in traveling direction of an AGV has occurred. Simulation results show that the presented method is useful for navigation control of AGV.

거리 영상의 에지 추출 및 영역화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Edge Extraction and Segmentation of Range Images)

  • In this paper, we investigate edge extraction and segmentation of range images. We first discuss problems that arise in the conventional region-based segmentation methods and edge-based ones using principal curvatures, then we propose an edge-based algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, we extract edge contours by using the Gaussian filter and directional derivatives, and segment a range image based on extracted edge contours, Also we present the problem that arises in the conventional thresholding, then we propose a new threshold selection method. To solve the problem that local maxima of the first- and second- order derivatives gather near step edges, we first find closed roof edge contours, fill the step edge region, and finally thin edge boundaries. Computer simulations with several range images show that the proposed method yields better performance than the conventional one.

  • In this paper, wavelet transform with multi-resolution property is used to improve the accuracy of pitch estimation of speech signal. Pitch detection of speech signal is based on the local maxima by using wavelet transform. The wavelet transform of a signal is a multiscale decomposition that is well localized in space and frequency. The proposed pitch defection algorithm is suitable for both low-pitched and high-pitched speakers.
