  • This research experimentally evaluated the local stress distribution along the cross-section of composite beams under both positive and negative moments. The experiment utilized a large-scale, two-story, two-by-three bay steel gravity frame with a concrete on metal deck floor system. The composite shear connections, which are nominally assumed to be pinned under gravity loading, can develop non-negligible moment-resisting capacity when subjected to lateral loads. This paper discusses the local stress distribution, orshear lag effects, observed near the beam-to-column connections when subjected to combined gravity and lateral loading. Strain gauges were used for measurements along the beam depth at varying distances from the connection. The experimental data showed amplified shear lag effects near the unconnected region of the beam web and bottom flange under the applied loading conditions. These results indicate that strain does not vary linearly across the beam cross-section adjacent to the connection components. This insight has implications for the use of experimental strain gauge data in estimating beam demands near the connections. These findings can be beneficial in informing instrumentation plans for future experimental studies on composite beams.

  • This paper propose section properties factor to generate stress history for fatigue analysis and safety inspection of steel bridge. A methodology is described for the computation of numerical stress histories in the steel truss bridge, caused by the vehicles using section properties factor. The global 3-D beam model of bridge is combined with the local shell model of selected details. Joint geometry is introduced by the local shell model. The global beam model takes the effects of joint rigidity and interaction of structural elements into account. Connection nodes in the global beam model correspond to the end cross-section centroids of the local shell model. Their displacements are interpreted as imposed deformations on the local shell model. The load cases fur the global model simulate the vertical unit force along the stringers. The load cases fer the local model are imposed unit deformations. Combining these, and applying vehicle loads, numerical stress histories are obtained. The method is illustrated by test load results of an existing bridge.

  • Damage detection methods which utilize the change in dynamic characteristics are very hard to apply to large civil structures since local damage hardly affects global dynamic characteristics. But, if there is a very important and critical member and we focus only on the local behavior of it, it would be possible to detect damage from the change in local dynamic characteristics, such as natural frequencies and mode shapes .In this study, the cable anchorage part of a cable-stayed bridge under construction is modeled and analyzed by commercial finite element program, ABAQUS. It has both welding and bolting connections with a cable and a stiffening plate, and has a possible high stress concentration portions in it. Several damage scenarios such as crack through the welding or crack through the bolting connection are examined. The result shows that the local natural frequencies of the damaged member decrease up to 16% compared with that of the undamaged member. It is concluded that there is quite a high feasibility that the damage of the cable anchorage can be detected by measuring local dynamic characteristics.

  • In a deep neural network (DNN)-based speech enhancement, using global and local input speech information is closely related to model performance. Recently, a nested U-Net structure that utilizes global and local input data information using multi-scale has bee n proposed. This nested U-Net was also applied to speech enhancement and showed outstanding performance. However, a single skip connection used in nested U-Nets must be modified for the nested structure. In this paper, we propose a multi-level skip connection (MLS) to optimize the performance of the nested U-Net-based speech enhancement algorithm. As a result, the proposed MLS showed excellent performance improvement in various objective evaluation metrics compared to the standard skip connection, which means th at the MLS can optimize the performance of the nested U-Net-based speech enhancement algorithm. In addition, the final proposed m odel showed superior performance compared to other DNN-based speech enhancement models.

  • A numerical analysis and experimental study were performed to investigate the behavior and strength of tube-gusset connection subjected to axial and lateral forces. To investigate the behavior of the connections, experiment was conducted by applying three directional loads. Local buckling and local plastic bending deformation of the connection were observed from the test. Analytical results were compared with test results for the limited cases. Primary interests here are the effect of eccentricity on the strength of the connection. To suggest a formula for the strength of tube-gusset connection, lateral forces were replaced with equivalent wall moment and eccenrtric vertical component force of lateral force. Ultimate strength formula for the each force was proposed. Finally, nondimensionalized ultimate strength interaction relationships between the wall moment of tube($M_w$), vertical axial force($P_v$), and eccentric vertical component of lateral force($P_e$) were formulated through parametric study.

  • One of the most promising ways through which a steel moment frame may attain high energy dissipating capability is to trim off a portion of the beam flanges near the column face. This type of moment connection, known as Reduced Beam Section (RBS) connection, has notable superiority in comparison with other moment connection types. As the result of the advantages of RBS moment connection, it has widely being used in practice. In spite of the good hysteretic behaviour, an RBS beam suffers from an undesirable drawback, which is local and lateral instability of the beam. The instability in the RBS beam reduces beam load-carrying capacity. This paper aims to investigate key issues influencing cyclic behaviour of RBS beams. To this end, a numerical analysis was conducted on a series of steel subassemblies with various geometric properties. The obtained results together with the existing experimental data are used to study the instability of RBS beams. A new slenderness concept is presented to control an RBS beam for combined local and lateral instability. This concept is in good agreement with the numerical and experimental results. Finally, a model is developed for the prediction of the magnitude of moment degradation owing to the instability of an RBS beam.

  • According to the report of the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation (2019), the size of the HMR food market in 2019 exceeded 4 trillion won. On the other hand, the consumption of agricultural products continued to decrease. As reported by Woo (2020) who analyzed consumer panel survey data, when the 2010 agricultural product purchase index was 100, the crop purchase index in 2019 was 72 and the vegetable and special crop purchase index was 69. Therefore, the Rural Development Administration promoted the research projects to develop the technologies for producing stably raw materials of HMR and for optimizing local foods as HMR ingredients. Researches on the development of HMR using local agricultural products has been being promoted in Cheonan, Chungju, and Jeju in 2020. In the case of Jeju, it has been prepared and realized the B2B commercialization of Jeju agricultural products in connection with the convenience store ingredients supplier in the province. In the case of Cheonan, development of HMR foods like as Sundae, dumpling, sausage, and Tteokgalbi using willd chive, cherry tomatoes, shiitake mushroom, fortified perilla, and licopene fortified watermelon has been being promoted. Lastly, in the case of Chungju, a diverse HMR foods have been developed using beans, centella asatica, Japanese lady bell, apples and peaches such as blended juices, frozen boiled rice, and tofu kit. In the future, in connection with the regional specialized crop cultivation project promoted by the Rural Development Administration, we intend to support the convergence commercialization of R&D technology based on regional characteristics.

  • This paper focuses on the static behavior of prestressed and non-prestressed connections for the steel-concrete hybrid girder. Based on the experimental study, it is found that the girder with non-prestressed connection failed by local concrete failure at the connection area, and the studs are taken out from the concrete. In case of the girder with prestressed joint, the failure of the girder is initiated by the crack at the varying section area. The test results show that the girder with prestressed connection has higher load carrying capacity compare to the girder with non-prestressed connection by 12%. Therefore, the application of prestressing at the concrete-steel connection recommended for the more secure connection.

  • This paper considers corrosion problems in the bolt connection of weathering steel box girder bridge using the external electric type corrosion resistance method which resisted to local corrosion in coated steel surface with contacted air. The weathering steel was created a rust itself in the passive state. but a coated box girder type was easily dew form could be made galvanic cell that accelerated corrosion. so that it was ruled by protection coat with some paint. Therefore, it needed that can be applied the external electric type corrosion resistance method in coated surface. As a result of the test of polarization amount had measured that the weathering steel was higher currents than the general steel by about $5\~10\%$. Therefore. an external electric type corrosion resistance method can be used to protect local corrosion in the coated bolt connection of weathering steel box girders effectively.

  • Different types of moment resisting connections are commonly used to transfer the induced seismic moments between frame elements in an earthquake resisting structure. The local connection behavior may drastically affect the global seismic response of the structure. In this study, the finite element and experimental seismic investigations are implemented on two frequently used connection type to evaluate the local behavior and to reveal the failure modes. An alternative connection type is then proposed to eliminate the unfavorable brittle fracture modes resulted from probable poor welding quality. This will develop a reliable predefined ductile plastic mechanism forming away from the critical locations. Employing this technique, the structural reliability of the moment resisting connections shall be improved by achieving a controllable energy dissipation source in form of yielding of the cover plates.
