  • Purpose - This study is aiming to provide policy makers with new insights to promote the consumption of locally-grown produces in the HMR industry by exploring what kinds of policies Japan, UK and Italy have developed. Research design - After introduction, the research starts to review the existing literature related to the promotion of local produce consumption, and then, compares the policies introduced by the above countries. Finally, the authors draw conclusions on the basis of research findings. Results - Firstly, central government has to collaborate with local authorities to promote local food consumption in the HMR industry. Secondly, countries have strengthened food label system to enhance local food consumption, in terms of country of origin. Thirdly, all of nations has highlighted food safety to protect customers. Fourthly, the government has created the business environment forcing HMR operators and retailers to follow the government's policy. Fifthly, it is necessary to support the social communities to enhance their social responsibility, from the government's point of view. Lastly, the social responsibility and the ethical administration of retailers should be sustainably strengthened by social atmosphere. Conclusions - In line with the growth of HMR products, governments have to make a considerable effort to develop innovative methods to promote local food consumption in the HMR industry.

  • Security and privacy issues complicate wireless local area network deployment. for a wired network, certain levels of security are maintained since access to the physical medium is restricted to the devices physically connected to the network. Though wireless local area networks offer some built-in security features, security breaches are possible if appropriate precautions are not taken. This paper describes security issues related to wireless local area networks and presents a software approach for restricting and controlling wireless access. The system authenticates users on the basis of identity, privileges and access hardware by distributed software agents that implement security policy and restrict unauthorized access.

  • Distortional and local buckling are important factors that influences the bearing capacity of steel-concrete composite box-beam. Through theoretical analysis of distortional buckling forms, a stability analysis calculation model of composite box beam considering rotation of steel beam top flange is presented. The critical bending moment calculation formula of distortional buckling is established. In addition, mechanical behaviors of a steel beam web in the negative moment zone subjected separately to bending stress, shear stress and combined stress are investigated. Elastic buckling factors of steel web under different stress conditions are calculated. On the basis of local buckling analysis results, a limiting value for height-to thickness ratio of a steel web in the elastic stage is proposed. Numerical examples are presented to verify the proposed models.

  • This paper deals with the consideration of mathematical models with regards to growth of cluster and firms by reviewing the Metcalf and Breuner's articles. prior studies have been argued the phenomenon of local industrial clusters and districts. Several concepts have been adopted to support the success of and changes to these clusters and firm growth. Through the review of two papers, evolution of both cluster and firm growth may be achieved in terms of utilizations of the different local aspects and mechanisms. This paper supports the theoretical back bone with regards to the regional cluster policy implementing in Korea for the purpose of regional developments. In particular, a mathematical model that, on a more abstract level, captures the fundamental dynamic structure of all the observed mechanisms. On the basis of this model, the emergence and evolution of local clusters can be described. Also this model has given that the knowledge sharing between firms has an important role to firms and cluster' growth.

  • This paper examined the present status of local newspapers and their problems. It was originated from the fact that the number of local newspapers have continuously increased since 1987 when the establishment of newspaper company became convenient, and that as a result the competition among local newspapers became high and several unexpected negative out comes brought forth. The analytical focus of this parer was placed on the internal and external environments surroundings local newspapers. The results showed followings: There are too many local newspapers competing each other in the same area; Financial crises mainly caused by over-competition are critical; Ownership and business operations are too distorted to take the socially expected role of newspapers; Many newspapers are often mobilized for the political and economic purposes of the owner; Market rules and advertising inducement practices are likely to be violated because of over-competition; the morales of Journalists are decreased and work qualities are deteriorated. On the basis of these findings this paper suggested several policy implications: The structure of ownership has to be changed into a direction where a few major stock-holders cannot influence the whole business operations; Top managers have to change their business motivation from profit-seeking to profit-sharing; business practices has to be open and clean; New editorial polices attracting readers have to be established; qualified Journalists have to be recruited and they have to be retrained throughout their career life.

  • This study was performed to study the efficiency of a local ventilation system, installed in dental laboratories, and of two types of protecting face masks. The dust originating from the workpiece as well as from the wheels and stones was collected on air filters in the cutting cycle during coarse and fine grinding, and in the subsequent polishing procedures of each specific dental material. The efficiency of the ventilation system was measured on the basis of weight reduction of dust in the breathing air at a distance about 20-40 cm from workpiece. The results were as follows: 1. Use of the local ventilation system reduced the amounts of respirable dust to an average level of 21.4%, although the efficiency of the local ventilation system varied depending upon materials used. 2. Mounting a nozzle on the tube improved the efficiency of the ventilation system considerably. The efficiency of the local ventilation system also increased as the workpiece was closing to the tube inlet. 3. With or without the local ventilation system, the distance between the position of the workpiece and sampler greatly affected the dust level. 4. The face masks covering the sampler improved the efficiency of the ventilation system considerably.

  • Damage detection is a challenging, complex, and at the same time very important research topic in civil engineering. Identifying the location and severity of damage in a structure, as well as the global effects of local damage on the performance of the structure are fundamental elements of damage detection algorithms. Local damage detection is essential for structural health monitoring since local damages can propagate and become detrimental to the functionality of the entire structure. Existing studies present several methods which utilize sensor data, and track global changes in the structure. The challenging issue for these methods is to be sensitive enough in identifYing local damage. Autoregressive models with exogenous terms (ARX) are a popular class of modeling approaches which are the basis for a large group of local damage detection algorithms. This study presents an algorithm, called Influence-based Damage Detection Algorithm (IDDA), which is developed for identification of local damage based on regression of the vibration responses. The formulation of the algorithm and the post-processing statistical framework is presented and its performance is validated through implementation on an experimental beam-column connection which is instrumented by dense-clustered wired and wireless sensor networks. While implementing the algorithm, two different sensor networks with different sensing qualities are utilized and the results are compared. Based on the comparison of the results, the effect of sensor noise on the performance of the proposed algorithm is observed and discussed in this paper.

  • Cooperation and participation in Local Expo by local residents as a Mega event is critically important to maximize the effectiveness of event. By studying on residents' expectation and on whether the expectation affects to their making decision for their attitude, we tried to draw the basis for successful operation of local expo. In conclusion, the result of analysis shows that local residents' expectation on Expo affects positively and meaningfully to their intention and attitude to cooperation and participation.

  • This paper presents efficient real time software implementation methods for the grayscale morphological composite function processing (FP) system. The proposed method is based on a matrix representation of the composite FP system using a basis matrix composed of structuring elements. We propose a procedure to derive the basis matrix for composite FP systems with any grayscale structuring element (GSE). It is shown that composite FP operations including morphological opening and closing are more efficiently accomplished by a local matrix operation with the basis matrix rather than cascade operations, eliminating delays and requiring less memory storage. In the second part of this paper, a VLSI implementation architecture for grayscale morphological operators is presented. The proposed implementation architecture employs a bit-serial approach which allows grayscale morphological operations to be decomposed into bit-level binary operation unit for the p-bit grayscale singnal. It is shown that this realization is simple and modular structure and thus is suitable for VLSI implementation.
