중앙균열 피로시험편용 변위게이지의 설계, 제작과 활용 (Design, Construction and Use of a Displacement Cage for M(T) Specimens)

  • A clip-on type displacement gage was designed and manufactured to use for fatigue crack growth tests of M(T)(Middle-Tension) specimens. The displacement gage has good response for the deformation of the specimen and has been successfully used not only for constant amplitude loading tests but also far variable amplitude loading tests like as single peak overloading and random loading tests. All the materials for the gage can be obtained easily in domestic market, and the manufacturing cost is very low. It is expected that the designing procedure presented in this study can be applied usefully for designing other displacement gages.

Dynamic equivalent model of a SMART control rod drive mechanism for a seismic analysis

  • The SMART (System-integrated Modular Advanced ReacTor) is an integral-type small modular reactor developed by KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute). This paper discusses the development of a dynamic equivalent model of the SMART control rod drive mechanism that can be efficiently utilized for complicated analysis during the design of the SMART. A semi-empirical approach is used to develop the equivalent model; that is, the equivalent model is defined analytically and verified empirically. Two types of tests, dynamic characteristics tests and seismic loading tests, are conducted for the development and verification of the dynamic equivalent model, respectively. Acceleration response spectra from the seismic analysis based on the developed equivalent model show good agreement with those from the seismic loading tests.

골재 종류에 따른 철근 콘크리트 보의 피로거동 특성 (Fatigue Behavior of Reinforce Concrete Beams with Recycled Aggregate)

  • In this study, the fatigue tests were performed on a series of reinforce concrete beams with type of aggregate to investigate the fatigue behavior. The four point loading system is used in the fatigue tests. In these tests, relations between the repeated loading cycles and mid-span deflections, number of repeated loading cycles when specimen was fractured were observed. On this basis, the mid-span deflections, the crack growth and failure mode of beams were studied. The result of tests, reinforce concrete beams with recycled aggregate were about similar failure mode with natural aggregate concrete beam.

Cyclic behaviour of beam-to-column welded connections

  • In this paper the results of an experimental program devoted to the assessment of the cyclic behaviour of full scale, European type, beam-column subassemblages with welded connections are presented. Six tests (five cyclic and one monotonic) have been carried out on three different series of specimens, encompassing a total of eighteen tests. The three specimen series have been designed with the aim of defining the effect of the column size on the connection behaviour, under different applied loading histories. The tests have evidenced the effect of the column size and panel zone design and of the applied loading history on the cyclic behaviour and failure modes of the connections.

이축압축 조건에서 실험체/재하판 경계면상의 마찰저항 감소를 위한 롤러 지지된 피스톤 형태의 하중재하판의 개발 (Development of a roller supported piston type loading platen reducing the frictional restraint along the interfaces between the specimen and platens under the biaxial loading condition)

  • 암석의 물성평가 및 파괴모델 실험을 위하여 다축압축 실험이 자주 사용된다. 다축압축 실험을 통한 암반의 거동 평가시 정확한 결과의 산출을 위하여 실험체와 가압판 경계면에서의 경계조건에 대한주의를 기울일 필요가 있다. 일반적으로 철제로 된 일체형 가압판의 사용시 실험체의 경계면과 하중재하판사이에서 발생하는 마찰저항으로 인하여 실험체 경계부에서부터 응력회전 현상이 발생하여 경계면에서부터 작용하는 외력의 방향은 회전하게 된다. 이와 같은 실험체/하중재하판 경계면 사이에서 발생하는 마찰저항을 감소시키기 위하여 다양한 방법이 제시되었다. 그 중 대표적인 예가 빗살구조의 하중재하판이다. 본 논문에서는 빗살구조의 하중재하판의 단점을 극복하고 하중재하판의 공간이 상대적으로 덜 차지하는 롤러로 지지된 피스톤 형태의 하중재하판을 소개하고 있다. 롤러로 지지된 피스톤 형태의 하중재하판은 지지강성이 충분한 짧은 피스톤 후면에 샤프트 형태의 롤러를 설치하여 실험체의 변형과 동시에 각 피스톤이 동반하여 거동하도록 구성되었다. 본 논문에서는 롤러 지지된 피스톤의 구조 상세 및 요구되는 기능에 대한 검증을 위하여 측면부 마찰저항 실험과 이축압축 실험이 수행되었으며 실험결과와 수치해석 결과의 비교를 통하여 장비의 적용성에 대한 검증이 이루어 졌다.

Study on seismic performance of SRC special-shaped columns with different loading angles

  • In order to study the influence of loading angles on seismic performance of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) special-shaped columns, cyclic loading tests and finite element analysis (FEA) were both carried out. Seven SRC special-shaped columns, including two L-shaped columns, three T-shaped columns and two cross-shaped columns, were tested, and the failure patterns of the columns with different loading angles were obtained. Based on the tests, the FEA models of SRC special-shaped columns with different loading angles were established. According to the simulation results, hysteretic curves and seismic performance indexes, including bearing capacity, ductility, stiffness and energy dissipation capacity, were analyzed in detail. The results showed that the failure patterns were different for the columns with the same section and different loading angles. With the increasing of loading angles, the hysteretic curves became fuller and the bearing capacity and initial stiffness appeared increasing tendency, but the energy dissipation capacity changed insignificantly. When the loading angle changed, the ductility got better with the larger area of steel at the failure side for the unsymmetrical section and near the neutral axis for the symmetrical section, respectively.

  • Recently, the design process for a railway bogie frame in Europe has been carried out according to the norm EN 13749. The activities in the norm EN shall demonstrate that the design of the bogie frame fulfills the acceptances of 4 steps of the program such as structural calculation, static tests, fatigue test and on-tracks tests. At the end of the acceptance program, the on-tracks tests have the aim to measure the real stress history generated in operation and to verify that they are reasonably next to those calculated and measured on the test rig. Therefore, in order to assure the safety of the railway vehicle, it is important to examined the durability of that under load histories measured from on-tracks tests. In this study, under variable amplitude loading based on the actual acceleration history, fatigue analysis of the welding bogie frame is investigated by using durability software. Moreover, the fatigue life of the frame under the loading in the norm EN fatigue test condition is evaluated and compared with the life under variable amplitude loading.

Plastic Deformation Capacity of Steel Beam-to-Column Connection under Long-duration Earthquake

  • Ductile fracture is one of the most common failure modes of steel beam-to-column connections in moment resisting frames. Most proposed evaluation methods of the plastic deformation capacity of a beam until ductile fracture are based on steel beam tests, where the material's yield strength/ratio, the beam's moment gradient, and loading history are the most important parameters. It is impossible and unpractical to cover all these parameters in real tests. Therefore, a new attempt to evaluate a beam's plastic deformation capacity through analysis is introduced in this paper. Another important issue is about the loading histories. Recent years, the effect on the structural component under long-duration ground motion has drawn great attentions. Steel beams tends to experience a large number of loading cycles with small amplitudes during long-duration earthquakes. However, current research often focuses on the beam's behavior under standard incremental loading protocols recommended by respective countries. In this paper, the plastic deformation capacity of steel beams subjected to long duration ground motions was evaluated through analytical methodology.

낙동강 모래의 반복응력이력에 의한 거동 (Behaviour of Nak-dong River Sand on Cyclic Stress History)

  • Earthquakes not only produce additional load on the structures and underlying soil, but also change the strength characteristics of the soil. Therefore, in order to analyze soil structures for stability, the behaviour after earthquake must be considered. In this paper, a series of cyclic triaxial tests and monotonic triaxial tests were carried out to investigate the undrained shear strength and liquefaction strength characteristics of Nak-Dong River sand soils which were subjected to cyclic loading. The sample was consolidated in the first stage and then subjected to stress controlled cyclic loading with 0.1Hz. After the cyclic loading, the cyclic-induced excess pore water pressure was dissipated by opening the drainage valve and the sample was reconsolidated to the initial effective mean principal stress(p/sub c/'). After reconsolidation, the monotonic loading or cyclic loading were applied to the specimen. In the results, the undrained shear strength and liquefaction strength characteristics depended on the pore pressure ratio(Ur=U/p/sub c/'). The volume change following reconsolidation can be a function of cyclic-induced excess pore water pressure and the maximum double amplitude of axial strain.
