To clarify the characteristics of surface damage due to fretting in press-fitted shaft, experimental methods were applied to small scale specimen with different bending load condition. Fatigue tests and interrupted fatigue tests of press-fitted specimen were carried out by rotate bending fatigue test. Macroscopic and microscopic characteristics were examined using scanning electron microscope (SEM), optical microscope or profilometer. It is found that small fatigue cracks are nucleated early in life regardless of bending stress, and thus the most portion of fatigue life on press fits can be considered to be crack propagation process. Most of surface cracks are initiated near the contact edge, and multiple cracks are nucleated and interconnected. Furthermore, the fretting wear rates at the contact edge are increased rapidly at the initial stage of total fatigue life. It is thus suggested that the fatigue crack nucleation and propagation process is strongly related to the evolution of surface profile by fretting wear in press fits.
Analysis on turbulence intensity profile depending on wind speed is an important process to set up design condition of wind turbine in terms of fatigue load. This paper tests goodness of fit of turbulence intensity empirical equations suggested by the IEC 61400 Standards with Jejudo Gimnyeong met-tower measurement, which is erected at a seashore. Therefore sea breeze and land breeze coexist. Sea breeze case showed apparent increasing trend of turbulence intensity in a high wind speed regime due to increase of sea surface roughness. However, neither inland wind turbine standard IEC 61400-1 nor offshore wind turbine standard IEC 61400-3 fit such a trend adequately. On the other hand, the modified empirical equation of turbulence intensity of IEC 61400-3 derived from Germany FINO1 application study by considering turbulence intensity behavior in a high wind speed regime showed good agreement with the measurement. Therefore, we can reconfirm and conclude that IEC 61400-3 Ed.1 legislated in 2009 needs to be modified.

To meet the high current load requirement from the high energy density realized by metal oxide and high power density graphite, we propose a novel hybrid supercapacitor consisting of Nb2O5 and KS6 graphite in 1.0 M LiPF6-EC:DEC (1:2). This new system exhibits a sloping voltage profile from 2.7 to 3.5 V during charging and presents a high operating voltage plateau between 1.5 and 3.5 V during discharging. The cell was tested at a current density of 100 mA/g with a cut-off voltage between 3.0 and 1.0 V. This novel energy storage system delivers the highest initial discharge capacity of 55 mAh/g and exhibits a good cycle performance.
A structural test of the wind turbine rotor blade is to evaluate the uncertainty of design due to selection of material, design concepts, production processes and so on, and their possible impacts on the structural integrity. In the full-scale static strength test, the measuring parameters are strain and displacements vs. loads, weight and the center of gravity. In order to simulate the aerodynamics load, the three-point loading method is applied. There is slight difference between the measured results and the predicted results for the reference fiber volume fraction of 60% . However, the agreement between the measured results and the predicted results with the actual fiber volume fraction of 52.5% is good. Even though a slightly non-linearity from 80% loading to 100% loading exists, a linear static solution is sufficient for the design purpose due to te small amount of non-linearity. Comparison between measured and predicted strain results at the maximum thickness positions of the blade profile for 0.236R(5.56m), 0.493R(11.59m) and 0.574R(13.43m), under 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% loadings for the upper part of the blade. The predicted values are in good agreement with the measured values.

The placement of the complete baseband processing in a centralized pool results in high data rate requirement and inflexibility of the fronthaul network, which challenges the energy and cost effectiveness of the cloud radio access network (C-RAN). Recently, redesign of the C-RAN through functional split in the baseband processing chain has been proposed to overcome these challenges. This paper evaluates, by mathematical and simulation methods, different splits with respect to network level energy and cost efficiency having in the mind the expected quality of service. The proposed mathematical model quantifies the multiplexing gains and the trade-offs between centralization and decentralization concerning the cost of the pool, fronthaul network capacity and resource utilization. The event-based simulation captures the influence of the traffic load dynamics and traffic type variation on designing an efficient fronthaul network. Based on the obtained results, we derive a principle for fronthaul dimensioning based on the traffic profile. This principle allows for efficient radio access network with respect to multiplexing gains while achieving the expected users' quality of service.
In the recent times, dimensions of heavy load carrying vehicle have changed significantly incorporating structural flexibility in vehicle body. The present paper outlines a procedure for the estimation of bridge response statistics considering structural bending modes of the vehicle. Bridge deck roughness has been considered to be non homogeneous random process in space. Influence of pre cambering of bridge surface and settlement of approach slab on the dynamic behavior of the bridge has been studied. A parametric study considering vehicle axle spacing, mass, speed, vehicle flexibility, deck unevenness and eccentricity of vehicle path have been conducted. Dynamic amplification factor (DAF) of the bridge response has been obtained for several of combination of bridge-vehicle parameters. The present study reveals that flexible modes of vehicle can reduce dynamic response of the bridge to the extent of 30-37% of that caused by rigid vehicle model. However, sudden change in the bridge surface profile leads to significant amount of increment in the bridge dynamic response even if flexible bending modes remain active. The eccentricity of vehicle path and flexural/torsional rigidity ratios plays a significant role in dynamic amplification of bridge response.
Reinforcement with geotextiles have been used in the foundation soil to enhance the resistance of embankments to avoid failure through excessive deformation or shear in the foundation. It is improtant to know the amount of the strain and the displacement of buried geotextiles for the verification of the reinforcement behaviour. Full scale trial constructions were performed to check the deformational characteristics of the polyester(PET) mat which was used for the embankment reinforcement. Many instrumentation equipments including surface settlement plates, profile gauges and inclinometer casings were installed to observe the behaviour of the soft ground due to the soil embankment. 60 electrical resistance strain gauges and 9 vibrating wire LVDTs were installed 세 measure the deformation of the polyester mat. Results of various tests and geotextile, waterproofing and protection from the hazard environments were introduced. The proposed instrumentation method was effective for the monitoring or the geotextile behaviour. The direct attachment of electrical resistance strain gauges on the gertextile mat was able to measure small changes of the strain of geotextiles. At the end of the 5 month monitoring, 54 of 60 (93%) strain gauges and 7 of 9 (78%) displacement transducers survived all perils of the compaction impacts and the humidity. And the tensile strain of grotextiles increased as the ground displacement became larger. Though the observed strain of mats under the 3m high embankment load was less than 1%, the magnitudes of the strain according to the mat spreading method were different from each other.
A sliding mode control (SMC) for servo motors based on the differential evolution (DE) algorithm, called DE-SMC, is proposed in this study. The parameters of SMC should be designed exactly to improve the robustness, realize the precision positioning, and reduce the steady-state speed error of the servo drive. The main parameters of SMC are optimized using the DE algorithm according to the speed feedback information of the servo motor. The most significant influence factor of the DE algorithm is optimization iteration. A suitable iteration can be achieved by the tested optimization process profile of the main parameters of SMC. Once the parameters of SMC are optimized under a convergent iteration, the system realizes the given performance indices within the shortest time. The experiment indicates that the robustness of the system is improved, and the dynamic and steady performance achieves the given performance indices under a convergent iteration when motor parameters mismatch and load disturbance is added. Moreover, the suitable iteration effectively mitigates the low-speed crawling phenomenon in the system. The correctness and effectiveness of DE-SMC are verified through the experiment.
The main objective of the study is to offer some basic information in relation to optimal shape and dimensions of the rotating band through the development of three-dimensional finite element method for metal forming analysis of the rotating band whose primary function is to impart spin to the projectile. The three-dimensional metal forming analysis of the rotating band has perfor-med by using recurrent boundary conditions. Such design factors as the outside diameter the total length and the profile of the rotating band must be considered carefully in order to design an optimal rotating band. Above design factors can be determined from such available analysis results as the deformed shape and the deformation load. of the rotating band and the normal pressure of the rotating band on a projectile shell. The remeshings are needed to carry out plastic deformation analysis with severe deformation through which the complete process analysis gets possible. The results can be utilized effectively in determining the optimal shape and size of the rotating band.
Fillet welding is widely used in the assembly of ships and offshore structures. The T-joint configuration is frequently reported to experience fatigue damage when a marine structure meets extreme loads such as storm loads. Fatigue damage is affected by the magnitude of residual stresses on the weld. Recently, many shipping registers and design guides have required that the fatigue strength assessment procedure of seagoing structures under wave-induced random loading and storm loading be compensated based on the effect of residual stresses. We propose a computational procedure to analyze the residual stresses in a T-joint. Residual stresses are measured by the X-ray diffraction (XRD) method, and a 3-D finite element analysis (FEA) is performed to obtain the residual stress profile in the T-joint. The proposed finite element model is validated by comparing experiments with computational results, and the characteristics of the residual stresses in the T-joint are discussed.
