Measurement of the friction force of vane tip have been made to provide essential information for the study of the pump dynamics, the pump design and the analysis of triboligical problems in the sliding components. The influences of the radial load, rotating speed and frequency of vane on the friction forces of vane tip have been investigated. The results indicated that the friction coefficient of vane tip are affected by the rotating speed remarkably but the effect of acting load on the vane tip and frequency of load are very small. The stribecks diagram shows that the lubrication regime of the sliding point of vane tip is mixing lubrication.
This paper presents improved teaching and learning Gill for easily analysis tool of load flow of power system. This GUI includes not only contingency analysis function, but also calculating power loss from transmission line flow. The Gill is friendly for study for power system operation and control because picture provide a better visualizing of relationships between input parameters and effect than a tabula type result. This Gill enables topology and the output data of load flow for line outages to be shown on same picture page. Users can input the system data for power flow on the the picture and can easily see the the result diagram of bus voltage, bus power, line flow. It is also observe the effects of different types of variation of tap, shunt capacitor, loads level, line outages. Proposed Gill has been studied on the Ward-Hale 6-Bus system.
The direct drive servo valve(DDV) is composed of a DC rotor, link, valve spool and displacement sensor(LVDT) where the spool is directly coupled to the DC motor through the link. Since the DDV is a kind of one-stage valve, the robust controller is required to overcome the flow force effect on the spool motion. The mathematical equations are derived and the stability, accuracy and response speed of a DDV are investigated analytically using a linearized system block diagram. Proportional control, PID control. Time-Delay control, Sliding Mode control, and Proportional control using the load pressure are applied to DDV to find which one shows the best control performance. The digital computer simulation results show that the proportional control using the load pressure satisfies the design requirement of response speed and steady state error regardless of the variation of load pressure,

Composite sections design consists on checking that the point defined by axial load and bending moment keeps included within the surface enclosed by the section interaction curve. Eurocode 4 suggests a method for tracing this diagram based on the plastic stress distribution method. However curves obtained according to this criterion overvalue concrete encased sections bearing capacity, especially when axial force comes with high bending moment values, so a correction factor is required. This article proposes a method for tracing this diagram based on the strain compatibility method. When stresses on the section are integrated by considering the Navier hypothesis, the use of the materials nonlinear constitutive equations provides curves much more adjusted to reality. This process requires the use of rather complex software which might reveal as too complex for practitioners. Preserving the same criteria of an elastic-plastic stress distribution, this article presents alternative expressions to obtain the failure internal forces in five significant points of the interaction diagram having considered five different positions of the neutral axis. These expressions are simply enough for their practical application. Concordance of curves traced strictly relying on these five points with those obtained by computer assisted stress integration considering the strain compatibility method and even with Eurocode 4 weighted curves will be presented for three different cross-sections and two different concrete strengths, revealing very good results.
This paper presents a detailed parametric study, conducted using finite element tools to cover a range of several geometric and material parameters, on the behaviour of thin-walled partially encased composite (PEC) columns. The PEC columns studied herein are composed of thin-walled built-up H-shaped steel sections with concrete infill cast between the flanges. Transverse links are provided between the opposing flanges to improve resistance to local buckling. The parametric study is confined to eccentrically-loaded columns subjected to major axis bending only. The parameters that were varied include the overall column slenderness ratio (L/d), load eccentricity ratio (e/d), link spacing-to-depth ratio (s/d), flange plate slenderness ratio (b/t) and concrete compressive strength ($f_{cu}$). The overall column slenderness ratio was chosen to be the primary variable with values of 5, 10 and 15. Other parameters were varied within each case of L/d ratio. The effects of the selected parameters on the behaviour of PEC columns were studied with respect to the failure mode, peak axial load, axial load versus average axial strain response, axial load versus lateral displacement response, moment versus lateral displacement behaviour and the axial load-moment interaction diagram. The results of the parametric study are presented in the paper and the influences of each of the parameters investigated are discussed.

The present study is focused on instigation of the nonlinear mechanical behavior of reinforced concrete beams considering different types of FRP bars through nonlinear finite element simulations. To explore the impact of the FRP reinforcement type and geometry on the nonlinear mechanical behavior of reinforced beam, intensive parametric studies are carried out and discussed. Twenty models were carried out based on the finite element software (ABAQUS). The concrete damage plasticity model was considered. Four types of fiber polymer bars, CFRP, GFRP, AFRP and BFRP as longitudinal reinforcement for concrete beam were used. The validation of numerical results was confirmed by experimental as well as numerical results, then the parametric study was conducted to evaluate the effect of change in different parameters, such as bar diameter size, type of FRP bars and shear span length. All results were analyzed and discussed through, load-deflection diagram. The results showed that the use of FRP bars in rebar concrete beam improves the beam stiffness and enhance the ultimate load capacity. The load capacity enhanced in the range of (20.44-244.47%) when using different types of FRP bars. The load-carrying capacity of beams reinforced with CFRP is the highest one, beams reinforced with AFRP is higher than that reinforced with BFRP but beams reinforced with GFRP recorded the lowest load of capacity compered with other beams reinforced with FRP Bars.
The characteristics of an impact load and pressure were experimentally investigated. Drop tests were carried out using a modified Wigley with CB = 0.56. The vertical force, pressures, and vertical accelerations were measured. A 6-component load cell was used to measure the forces, piezo-electric sensors were used to capture the impact pressure, and strain-gauge type accelerometers were used to measure the vertical accelerations. A 50-kHz sampling rate was applied to capture the peak values. The repeatability of the measured data was confirmed and the basic characteristics of the impact load and pressure such as the linearity to the falling height were observed for all of the measurements. A simple formula was derived to extract the physical impact load from the measured force based on a simple mass-sensor-mass diagram, which was validated by comparing impact forces with existing data using the mathematical model of Faltinsen and Chezhian (2005). The effects of the elasticity of the model and change in acceleration during the water entry were investigated. It is interesting to observe that the impact loads occurred and reached peak values at the same time duration after water entry for all drop heights.
In this study, numerical studies using a Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) method were carried out to estimate the green water load acting on the breakwater plate of bow deck of container carrier, KCS. For the green load water load analysis, a full load condition was considered. The relative motions at bow deck were calculated from the seakeepig analysis. Statistical analysis were carried out to estimate the long term response of the relative motions with the North Atlantic wave scatter diagram. The equivalent design wave was determined from the RAO of the relative motions at bow and the long term responses. CFD geometry modeling with three different locations and simulations for the green water loads were carried out in the equivalent design waves. A commercial CFD program, STAR-CCM+ Ver. 8.04, was used and the green water pressures on the breakwater plate were calculated successfully. The CFD analysis for green water loads can be used as a useful design tool for the evaluation of the breakwater plate of the container vessel.
Until now, the 40% of wall thickness criterion, which is generally used for the plugging of steam generator tubes, has been applied only to a single cracked geometry. In the previous study by the authors, a total number of 9 local failure prediction models were introduced to estimate the coalescence load of two collinear through-wall cracks and, then, the reaction force model and plastic zone contact model were selected as the optimum ones. The objective of this study is to estimate the coalescence load of two collinear through-wall cracks in steam generator tube by using the optimum local failure prediction models. In order to investigate the applicability of the optimum local failure prediction models, a series of plastic collapse tests and corresponding finite element analyses for two collinear through-wall cracks in steam generator tube were carried out. Thereby, the applicability of the optimum local failure prediction models was verified and, finally, a coalescence evaluation diagram which can be used to determine whether the adjacent cracks detected by NDE coalesce or not has been developed.
