Application of F.E.M to the Forming Process of Valve-Spring Retainer (유한요소법을 이용한 Valve-Spring Retainer의 공정해석)

  • A design methodology is applied for manufacturing the valve-spring retainer component. The design criterion is the forging load within the available press limit. Also, the final product should not have any geometrical defect. The rigid-plastic TEM has been applied to simulate the conventional five-stage manufacturing processes, which include mainly backward extrusion and heading process. Simulations of one step process from selected stocks to the final product shape are performed for a possibly better process than the conventional one.

  • This paper is the first of companion papers, which investigate port-masking effects on lean misfire limit. Port-masking was applied to commercial SOHC 3-valve and DOHC 4-valve engine by inserting masking plates between manifold and port. To induce various conditions of stratification, six types of masking plates were applied. The masking plates were placed in the upstream of injector to prevent wall wetting and two ports were not separated to permit both fuel and air entering through masked port. The results were compared with those by conventional port throttling. The results show that lean misfire limit mainly depends on masking direction, that is, high lean misfire limit is achieved when the port near the spark plug is masked. The mechanism of stratification by masking is different from axial stratification by port throttling. In this case, the rich mixture entering through masked port plays a very important role in the stratification process.

A Study on the Improvement of Forming Processes of Valve-Spring Retainer (Valve-Spring Retainer의 성형공정개선에 관한 연구)

  • The conventional five-stage forming processes of the valve-spring retainer are simulated using the rigid-plstiv finite element method. As a design criterion the improved process should satisfy the maximum forging load during processes within the loading limit of the available press and should not induce any geometrical defects. hollow bars are recommended as initial billets to skip the heading and piercing processes. Through various simulations it is found out that the one stage process results in less forging loads and better strain distributions.

  • A hydraulic system is modeled as the second order differential equation with uncertain system parameters and disturbance composed of modeling errors. To Position the load of the hydraulic system to a desired point. the servo valve of the hydraulic system is controlled. As a control scheme. a global sliding mode control(GSMC) is Proposed Since the servo valve has a torque limit. the GSMC is designed to coordinate the position of the load along the minimum time trajectory within the torque limit. The Proposed control scheme can be designed with ranges of parametric uncertainties and specified torque limits. By the proposed control scheme, the closed form solution of the arriving time at the desired position can be estimated.

  • We acquired operating data in an existing steam turbine power plant using analog control system to investigate operation characteristics. We analyzed a load control logic to develop a digital turbine control system. The load control logic is constituted of load target, load reference, loading rate, load limit and admission mode transfer of valve. The result of this paper is utilized to implement a digital turbine control system.

  • A dynamic model of direct-acting OHC valve train system has been used to determine the load conditions in the system. The modified equations for calculating the friction forces between cam and HLA, and at a camshaft bearing have been defined considering the lubrication conditions. Then, to understand the frictional characteristics in the system, a parameter study has been performed. As the results of the analysis, valve spring stiffness and preload have great effects on the friction in the system, but the effects of other parameters are negligible. So, how to design the valve train system with respect to the reduction of friction is to minimize the valve spring stiffness and preload in the limit of satisfying the dynamic constraints.

  • The most landing gear use oleo-pneumatic shock strut to absorb the impact energy during touchdown. The shock strut is composed of the oil damper and the gas spring, especially the oil damper provides resistance force which is proportional to the square of landing speed. In case of high landing speed, the abnormal peak load can be occurred and transferred to the airframe structure. To prevent this, the pressure-relief valve is used to limit the damping force under the specific level. In this paper, it is presented the design process to find optimal damping and analysis results using pressure-relief valve.

  • Optimal Power dispatch is the short-term decision of the optimal output of a number of power generation facilities, to meet the system demand, with the objective of Power dispatching at the lowest possible cost, subject to transmission lines power loss and operational constraints. The operational constraint includes power balance constraint, generator limit constraint, and emission dispatch constraint and valve point effects. In this paper, Opposition based Differential Evolution Algorithm (ODEA) has been proposed to handle the objective function and the operational constraints simultaneously. Furthermore, the valve point loading effects and transmission lines power loss are also considered for the efficient and effective Power dispatch. The ODEA has unique features such as self tuning of its control parameters, self acceleration and migration for searching. As a result, it requires very minimum executions compared with other searching strategies. The effectiveness of the algorithm has been validated through four standard test cases and compared with previous studies. The proposed method out performs the previous methods.

  • This paper concerns a 2-axis PR type pneumatic manipulator system translating in vertical and rotating in horizontal directions. A simplified linear model is mathematically formulated similar to the pneumatic acturators in dynamic responses in order to devise an appropriate position control scheme. A PD controller preceding the on/off solenoid valve turns out not only economical but also effective in reducing rise time and amplitude of limit cycles, if its control gains are determined on the basis of frequency response. And, additional implementation of symmetric or asymmetric deadband at the PD controller output greatly helps minimize valve opening numbers, positional error, and undesirable direction-dependent property due to the gravitational load. Such a control concept is synthesized through numerical simulations and next applied to the experimental set-up, featuring enhanced positional servo characteristics.

  • After steam turbines in power plant drives generator and maintains it at rated speed using high temperature and high pressure steam energy, they regulate the output of generator when synchronized in parallel with the power system. By the way, as the steam flow into turbine can not be reduced fast even though the electrical load is lost, the turbine gets into dangerous situation due to the increase of its speed. At this time, the duty of the turbine governor is "how to limit the speed within its overspeed trip setpoint and escape from danger." In order to implement this purpose, there are various ways different from valve position control. So, in this paper, the various methods for overspeed protection are introduced in comparison with valve position control.
