  • In this study, as a result of eva lua ting the quality properties of Living Concrete, the flow of the table showed a tendency to decrease as the mixing ratio of ocher increased. Compressive strength was found to decrease with increasing loess mixing ratio. Density properties were evaluated for weight reduction, As a result of comparison with the panel using cement as a comparison group, the density was measured to be a bout 20 % lower than that of the cement panel, and it is judged that it is less affected by the load and can be installed in the structure. As a result of evaluating the panel temperature reduction, there was a difference in the temperature reduction with time. It is judged that the panel planted with moss has a lower temperature than the panel without moss, so it is judged that it can be used in a vertical greening system.

  • The effects of culture soil combinations on growth of native pteridophyte (Pteris multifida, Cyrtomium falcatum and Cheilanthes argentea) were investigated in this study. Six different culture soil mixtures used for cultivating the pteridophytes under 30% shading condition. Pteris multifida was showed the most growth at the culture soil mixtures of peatmoss : living moss (5 : 5), and peatmoss : perlite (7 : 3). Cyrtomium falcatum and Cheilanthes argentea showed the best growth in the culture soils mixtures of sand : soil : leaf mold (2 : 5 : 3) and peatmoss : perlite (7 : 3, 5 : 5), respectively.

  • Eight samples, collected from six moss-covered soil and two freshwater samples, were examined to determine ciliate diversity in Korea. Based on the morphology of living and stained specimens, thirteen ciliate species, previously unrecorded in Korea, were identified. These specimens were classified to four classes, seven orders, ten families, and twelve genera. Of these genera, the following six were first records in Korea: Bresslauides, Dexiotricha, Glaucoma, Paragastrostyla, Sathrophilus, and Trithigmostoma. Here, we provide a brief description of the morphology of these 13 taxa along with microphotographs and notes.

  • We collected ciliate species from diverse habitats (brackish water, marine water, and terrestrial ecosystems) composed of estuarine, coast, and moss samples during 2017-2018 in Korea. The morphology and infraciliature of these species were examined and identified based on the observations of living cells and protargol impregnated specimens. Of the ciliates we identified, we described eight unrecorded species in Korea as followings: class Heterotrichea - Condylostoma vorax, Peritromus kahli; class Protocruziea - Protocruzia labiata; class Spirotrichea - Hemiamphisiella granulifera; class Litostomatea - Loxophyllum chinense; class Phyllopharyngea - Trochilioides recta; and class Oligohymenophorea -Cohnilembus verminus, Uronemella filificum. Among them, Protocruzia labiata is a poorly known species. In this paper, we provide the improved diagnoses and brief descriptions of the species with their microphotographs. The taxonomic classifications of the eight species are summarized as six classes, eight orders, five families, and eight genera. These voucher slides with protargol impregnated specimens have been deposited in the National Institutes.

  • All plants in natural ecosystems are living in symbiosis with endophytes. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in endophytes since these organisms can interact with the hosts and produce various structurally or biologically interesting molecules. This study aimed to identify these molecules from endophytes. Chemical investigation of Climacium dendroides-derived fungus Talaromyces sp. resulted in the isolation of two diphenyl ether derivatives, purpactin A (1) and penicillide (2), and two steroids, dankasterone A (3) and calvasterol B (4). The structures of the compounds were identified via extensive spectroscopic and spectrometric methods. Four compounds did not show any antioxidative activities in the on-line antioxidant activity screening system.

  • The soil hypotrichs collected from the moss-covered soils in the campus of Seoul National University were identified as Holosticha multistylata Kahl, 1928 and H. sylvatica Foissner, 1982. These two species are discovered for the first time from Korea and redescribed with illustrations. The description was based on the observation of living specimens, protargol impregnated specimens and biometric analysis. They are distinguished from congeneric species by their following characteristics : 4 frontal cirri in H. multistylata and 7-8 in H. sylvatica, 3 buccal cirri in H. multistylata and 1 in H. sylvatica, 3 dorsal kineties in H. multistylata and 5 in H. sylvatica.

  • Ciliates are a speciose protozoan group and their diversity is still not well investigated in Korea. From our field surveys, 18 unrecorded ciliate species were collected from a total of nine localities in Korea. The field surveys were conducted in 2018 and 2019, and the unrecorded ciliates were found from terrestrial (moss and soil samples) and inland water (river and lagoon samples) habitats. The morphology of these ciliates was studied using the observation of living and silver impregnated (protargol) specimens. The present species belong to five classes as follows: 1) class Spirotrichea - Gonostomum kuehnelti, Quadristicha setigera, Lamtostyla decorata, L. islandica, L. longa, Anteholosticha brachysticha, Pseudobirojimia muscorum; 2) class Litostomatea - Apocoriplites lajacola, Epispathidium amphoriforme, Protospathidium muscicola, Phialinides australis, Paraenchelys wenzeli, Rimaleptus similis; 3) class Nassophorea - Drepanomonas revoluta; 4) class Colpodea - Bryometopus triquetrus; and 5) class Oligohymenophorea - Cyclidium glaucoma, Epistylis pygmaeum, Pseudovorticella vestita. The globular macronuclear nodules of P. vestita were observed for the first time in the Korean population.

  • We collected indigenous Korean ciliate species from diverse aquatic and terrestrial habitats in 2018 and 2019. The morphology of these ciliates was revealed based on the observations of living cells, and protargol-impregnated and/or silver carbonate-impregnated specimens. During this study, we found 16 previously unrecorded Korean ciliate species, which are as follows: 1) class Heterotrichea - Stentor introversus; 2) class Spirotrichea - Aspidisca orthopogon, Amphisiella sinica, Epiclintes auricularis rarisetus, Apokeronopsis wrighti, Pseudokeronopsis carnea, Trachelostyla pediculiformis, Strombidium apolatum, and Varistrombidium kielum; 3) class Phyllopharyngea - Chlamydodon obliquus, Dysteria aculeata, and Hartmannula angustipilosa; 4) class Litostomatea - Paraspathidium apofuscum; and 5) class Oligohymenophorea - Frontonia angusta solea, Metanophrys sinensis, and Uronemita binucleata. Here, we provide a diagnosis for each species with a brief remark. Among them, the infraciliature of the poorly known species, Stentor introversus and Dysteria aculeata, is described for the first time. Further, we revise the Korean population of Pseudokeronopsis pararubra, which was previously misidentified as Pseudokeronopsis carnea.

Adoral zone of membrane lies (AZM) covering 30-50% of cell length with 25-27 adoral membranelles (AM). Buccal area flat, typical Oxytricha pattern. Five transverse cirri, 19-23 right marginal cirri, 19-24 left marginal cirri, three caudal cirri, five dorsal kineties. Two macronuclear nodules 2 in number and spherical in shape, two micronuclei in number. Oxytricha marina: Cell in vivo $100-150{\times}30-60{\mu}m$. Cytoplasm colorless without cortical granules. Four frontoventral cirri. AZM covering 50% of cell length with 28-44 AMs, Buccal area flat, typical Oxytricha pattern. Five transverse cirri, 23-38 right marginal cirri, 19-25 left marginal cirri, three caudal cirri, five dorsal kineties.
