Among oriental medicine,s literatures, through Hwang-Je-Nae-Kyung(黃帝內徑) to Chung(淸), I extracted contents related to atrophy syndrome(?證). And studied it,s pathophysiology, therapy and treatment. Then, I concluded that result same below 1. The pathophysiologies of atrophy syndrome are lung heat(肺熱) & decreasing of it,s circulation, making liver and stomach weaken & difficulty it's circulation, injurious to liver and kidney & atrophy of bonemarrow and muscle. 2. The most important point of atrophy syndrome therapy is Yang-Myung(陽明). The Priority of therapy is stomach & liver,s balance. And then we must protect acquired human function & clean humidity & temperature of Yang-Myung(陽明). under the principle of decreasing south organ,s function & protecting north organ,s function, we should Ja-Yeum-Chung-Yeul(滋陰淸熱). so remove temperature of lung & protect liver and kidney & make strong stomach. 3. Among the therapy of atrophy syndrome in literatures Yi-Jin-Tang(二陳湯), Sa-Gun-Ja-Tang(四君子湯), Sa-Mul-Tang-Je(四物湯劑), Ho-Jam-Hwan(虎蠶丸), Dong-Won-Geun-Bo-Hwan(東垣健步丸) and Chung-Jo-Tang(淸燥湯) were many. These make strong spleen & dry humidity organ using Sa-Gun-Ja-Tang(四君子湯)and Yi-Jin-Tang(二陳湯) by Dog-Cheu-Yang-Myung(獨取陽明) method. Sa-Mul-Tang(四物湯), Phellodendri cortex(黃柏), Radix sophorae flavescentis(苦蔘), Carapax Testudinis(龜板) bitter taste make strong Yeum(陰) & decrease Yang(陽) so important human muscle powerful. Ho-Jam-Hwan(虎蠶丸), Dong-Won-Geun-Bo-Hwan(東垣健步丸), Chung-Jo-Tang(淸燥湯) make Chung-Yeul-Jo-Seup(淸熱燥濕), protect liver and kidney & strong muscle and bone. Besides Gum-Gang-Hwan(金剛丸), Yi-Myo-Hwan(二妙丸), Nok-Gak-Geu-Hwan(鹿角膠丸)&Ga-Mi-Sa-Geun-Hwan(加味四斤丸) were used in treatment of atrophy syndrome.
This paper documents a holistic study of the kidney and its symptom. To this end, the relationship between internal organs and its diseases have been studied from th e viewpoint of the connecting role of the kidney channel of foot-shaoyin. The results of this study are as follows; The function of the kidney has specific re lations with the liver, lung, heart, urinary bladder, throat, tongue, chest, sole of the foot, inside of the thigh and waist. These mutual relations reflect the pathological changes of the kidney. So physiological function and symptom of the kidney can be better understood throu gh the connecting role of the kidney channel of foot-shaoyin on the concept of the organism as a whole. This is the key of the clinical treatment based on the precept sof oriental medicine.
Present experiments were undertaken for the purpose of clarifying the effect of repeated halothane anesthesia on the liver and kidney function. Nine mongrel dogs were divided into three groups. The group one dogs were anesthesized once(control group) and the other two groups twice and trice respectively on 10th day of previous anesthesia experimental groups. Hematological examinations and blood chemical assays were undertaken during the period from one hour to 10 days after the anesthesia. From these experiments fellowing results were obtained; 1. No significant changes of erythrocyte count were recognized in both the control and experimental groups after the halothane anesthesia. 2. The total leukocyte counts of experimental groups showed significant decrease on one hour and subsequent increases after the anesthesia. 3. No significant changes were observed in SGOT, SGPT, ALP, BUN and serum glucose values in both the control and experimental groups. 4. The total serum protein values showed a tendency to decrease on the first hour of halothane anesthesia in both the control and experimental groups. From these results it may be concluded that the repeated halothane anesthesia done 10th day of previous anesthesia do not affect the liver and kidney function in dogs.
This study was undertaken to examine the effect of Jwagyuyeum and Woogyuycum, being known to reinforce Kidney-yin and yang, on the activities of endogenous antioxidant enzymes and the production of oxygen free radicals in the liver and kidney tissues, Alterations in enzyme activities were observed after in vivo treatment in rats, Jwagyuyeum and Woogyuyeum caused a significant increase in the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) and catajase Jwagyuyeum significantly increased the activity of glutathione peroxidase in both liver and kidney, but the enzyme activity was not significantly altered by Woogyuyeum. Treatment in vitro of Jwagyuyeum and Woogyuyeum decreased the production of oxygen free radicals in a dose-dependent fashion. These results suggest that Jwagyuyeum and Woogyuyeum stimulate the activities of antioxidant enzymes and inhibit directly the production of oxygen free radicals. These effects of both herbs may contribute to prevent the oxygen free radical-induced impairment of cell function.
NUCB2/nesfatin-1 is first known to be expressed in the hypothalamus while controlling appetite and energy metabolism. However, recent studies have shown that NUCB2/nesfatin-1 was expressed in the various organs as well as the hypothalamus. Our previous reports also demonstrated that NUCB2/nesfatin-1 was expressed in the ovary, testis, pituitary gland, lung, kidney, and stomach of fetal and adult mice. However, the role of NUCB2/nesfatin-1 in mouse fetus remains unknown. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate whether NUCB2/nestatin-1 is expressed in mouse fetus at the developmental stage in which organogenesis begins. To do this, we performed in situ hybridization (ISH) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining to examine the distribution of NUCB2 mRNA and nesfatin-1 protein in the mouse fetal organs during early developmental stages, especially at embryonic day (E) 10.5. As a result of ISH, NUCB2 mRNA positive signals were more frequent in the liver, but there were relatively few positive signals in heart. On the other hand, no positive signals were detected in other organs. These ISH results were validated by IHC staining and qRT-PCR analysis. Expression of nesfatin-1 protein detected by IHC staining was similar to that of NUCB2 mRNA detected by ISH in the liver and heart. In addition, the levels of NUCB2 mRNA expression analyzed by qRT-PCR were significantly increased in the liver and heart compared to other organs of the mouse fetus at E13.5, whereas its level was extensively decreased in the liver, but increased in the lung, stomach, and kidney of the mouse fetus at E17.5. These results suggest that NUCB2/nesfatin-1 may play an important role in liver and heart development and physiological functions in the developmental process of mouse fetus. Further studies are needed on the function of NUCB2/nesfatin-1, which is highly expressed in the various organs, including liver and heart during mouse development.
Malaria is one of the most widespread infectious diseases of tropical countries with an estimated 207 million cases globally. In India, there are endemic pockets of this disease, including Aligarh. Hundreds of Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax cases with severe pathological conditions are recorded every year in this district. The aim of this study is to find out changes in liver enzymes and kidney markers. Specific diagnosis for P. falciparum and P. vivax was made by microscopic examination of Giemsa stained slides. Clinical symptoms were observed in both of these infections. Liver enzymes, such as AST, ALT, and ALP, and kidney function markers, such as creatinine and urea, were estimated by standard biochemical techniques. In Aligarh district, P. vivax, P. falciparum, and mixed infections were 64%, 34%, and 2%, respectively. In case of P. falciparum infection, the incidences of anemia, splenomegaly, renal failure, jaundice, and neurological sequelae were higher compared to those in P. vivax infection. Recrudescence and relapse rates were 18% and 20% in P. falciparum and P. vivax infections, respectively. Liver dysfunctions and renal failures were more common in P. falciparum patients, particularly in elderly patients. Artesunate derivatives must, therefore, be introduced for the treatment of P. falciparum as they resist to chloroquine as well as sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine combinations.
This study investigated the effect of the powder of the small water dropwort(PSWD) and brewer's yeast(BY) on the liver function and serum lipid metabolism in alcohol-consuming rats. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed an AIN-93 diet(control), ethanol plus control(A), ethanol plus PSWD(AS), ethanol plus BY(AB), ethanol plus PSWD and BY(ABS) diet for seven weeks. The feed intake, body weight gain and feed efficiency ratio were the lowest and in the alcohol-consuming groups. The weight of the liver, kidney, spleen and epididymis of the anatomized rats showed positive correlation with the body weight gain. Compared with group A, the content of the lipid in the serum was significantly low in the AS and AB groups. In particular, it was the most effective in the AB group. The GOT, GPT and ALP level in the serum showed a significant difference in the alcohol-consuming groups. Compared with the A group, they showed a significantly low difference in the AS and AB groups. The total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the liver were similar in all groups. The weight of the feces was significantly different but there was no significant difference in the content of total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the AS and AB groups. These results suggest that BY and PSWD improve the liver function, and had an effect on reducing the lipid content of the serum and feces of alcohol-consumed rats. In particular, the effect of BY which contained protein, dietary fiber and vitamin B was higher than that of PSWD.

Introduction: Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated protein 1 (TRAP1) is a mitochondrial heat shock protein (HSP), which belongs to HSP90 family. It plays important roles in regulating mitochondrial integrity, protecting against oxidative stress, and inhibiting cell death. Recent studies suggest that TRAP1 is linked to mitochondria and its metabolism. In this study, we established TRAP1 transgenic mice and performed partial hepatectomy (PH) on wild-type (WT) and TRAP1 transgenic mice to investigate the function of TRAP1 during liver regeneration. Results and Discussion: We found that TRAP1 was highly expressed in liver as well as kidney. In addition, liver regeneration slightly decreased together with increased fatty liver and inflammation at 72 hr after PH in TRAP1 transgenic mice compared with WT control group mice. Concomitantly, we observed decreased levels of p38 protein in TRAP1 transgenic mice compared with WT control group mice. These results suggest that TRAP1 plays a critical role in liver energy balance by regulating lipid accumulation during liver regeneration. Conclusions and Prospects: To our knowledge, we reported, for the first time, that liver regeneration slightly reduced together with increased fat accumulations after PH in TRAP1 transgenic mice compared with WT control group mice. Concomitantly, we observed decreased levels of p38 protein in TRAP1 transgenic mice compared with WT control group mice. Overexpression of TRAP1 might affect liver regeneration via disturbing mitochondrial function leading to fatty liver in vivo.
BPMC (2-Sec-butylphenyl N-methylcarbamate) was treated at the level of 100mg/kg/day in oral administration for 12th days in rat. It was investigated not only that the hematogram and the serological parameters, but also the content of cytochrome P-450, the activity of TBA, glucose-6-phosphatase, cholinesterase and carboxylesterase in rat. The results were as follows: The hematogram was not found any alteration but the value of AST, ALT, LDH and the content of glucose in serum were significantly increased compare with that of control group. The content of cytochrome P-450 in liver was increased significantly on the contrary cytochrome P-450 in kideny and NADPH-cytochrome c reductase in liver and Kidney were not significantly increased. After the final 12th day, the value of TBA and the activity of glucose-6-phosphatase appeared to the tendency of increasement in the liver. The activity of cholinesterase and carboxylesterase both in serum and liver were decreased. Especially the activity of cholinesterase was more significantly decreased. It was conclusion that the function of this insectivide should be due th the inhibition of cholinesterase activity.
The effects of diet induced hyperlipidemia on kidney function were studied in Sprague-Dawley rats fed high fat diet containing 20% beef tallow and high cholesterol diet containing 5% cholesterol for 8, 12, 16 weeks, respectively. The concentrations of serum total lipid, total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol were significantly high cholesterol diet groups during all experimental periods (p<0.05). HDL-cholesterol concentration was the lowest value in high cholesterol diet group of 16 weeks(p<0.05). Triglyceride concentration was not affected by experimental diets. Serum total protein, albumin and creatinine concentration tended to higher in high cholesterol diet groups than those in high fat diet groups. And serum urea-N concentration was higher in high fat diet group of 16 weeks than that in other diet groups. Urinary total protein and urea-N were higher in high cholesterol diet groups than those in other diet groups regardless of experimental period period. There was no significant difference in urinary creatinine concentratin among diet groups(p<0.05). GFR was lower in high cholesterol diet groups than that in high fat diet groups at 8, 16 weeks, respectively. Wet weight per body weight, total lipid, triglyceride, total cholesterol concentations of liver tissue were apparently high in high cholesterol diet groups(p<0.05). Kidney wet weight per body weight wer not affected by experimently diets, total lipid concentration of kidney tissue was significantly high in high fat diet groups of 12 weeks(p<0.05), kidney tissue triglyceride concentrations of high cholesterol diet groups of 12, 16 weeks apparently low, and total cholesterol concentration of kidney tissue was higher in experimental diet groups than that of control groups at 12, 16 weeks(p<0.05). Fecal excretion, total lipid, triglyceride and cholesterol concentrations of feces were markedly high in all high cholesterol diet groups except high fat diet group of 16 weeks. The results of light microscopic examination indicated that glomerulosclerosis was not obsrved in rats fed experimental diets.
