Vanadium tungsten oxide thin films were formed by RF magnetron sputtering and the effects of tungsten addition on the crystallinity and on the electrochemical behavior were investigated. X-ray analysis revealed that amorphized films could be obtained by tungase addition. In order to investigate the electrochemical behavior of the vanadium tungsten oxide films, electrochemical insertion and extraction of lithium were out in 1m $LiCIO_4$-PC-DME electrolyte using litium metal as a counter electrode. When the tungsten was added to the $V_2O_5$ films, cycling reversibility was considerably improved. Electrochemical test showed the cell capacity of about $70\mu\;Ah/\textrm{cm}^2-\mu\textrm{m}$ when the amount of additive tungseten reached 30 atomic percent. No appreciable degradation of the cell capacity could be observed after hundred cycles of insertion and extration od Li.
The surface modified $LiMn_2O_4$ materials with Li-Fe composites were prepared by a sol-gel method to improve the electrochemical performance of $LiMn_2O_4$ and were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM)-EDS. XRD results indicate that all the samples (modified and pristine samples) have cubic spinel structures, and XRD, XPS, and TEM-EDS data reveal the formation of $Li(Li_xFe_xMn_{2-2x})O_4$ solid solution on the surface of particles. For the electrochemical properties, the modified material demonstrated dramatically enhanced reversibility and stability even at elevated temperature. These improvements are attributed to the formation of the solid solution, and thus-formed solid solution phase on the surface of $LiMn_2O_4$ particle reduces the dissolution of Mn ion and suppresses the Jahn-Teller effect.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the translucency of shaded zirconia allceramic systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Translucency of 3 different zirconia all-ceramic systems colored by different techniques was compared with a lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (IPS e.max Press). Square-shaped specimens with 0.5 mm thickness were fabricated from In-Ceram YZ, ICE Zirkon and Katana systems in A1, A2 and A3.5 shades according to Vitapan Classical shade tab (n=11). Specimens were then veneered and glazed with corresponding veneer ceramic recommended by each zirconia system manufacturer and the total thickness was set to 1.5 mm. Translucency measurements were performed with VITA Easyshade Compact spectrophotometer after each stage and translucency parameter was calculated. Data were statistically analyzed with repeated measures ANOVA and Tukey multiple comparison test. RESULTS. The control group was significantly more translucent than the zirconia systems (P<.05). ICE Zirkon cores showed the least translucency; neither In-Ceram YZ nor Katana systems were superior to each other in terms of translucency. Translucency of all specimens was decreased after veneering, and the translucency rankings were changed. CONCLUSION. Coloring technique did not have a significant effect on translucency of zirconia cores. Although zirconia systems were less translucent than lithium disilicate glass ceramic, they had partial translucency and there were translucency differences among the zirconia systems. Chroma affected the translucency of precolored zirconia cores.
In these recent years, low cost and stable battery electrode materials have been studied for HV/HEV application. Spinel cathode material $LiMn_2O_4$ is widely studied as a promising cathode material of lithium ion secondary batteries because of it is low cost, easily to be prepared and capable to be operated in high voltage range. In this study, $LiMn_2O_4$ was undergoing surface modification with spinel lithium titanium oxide by sol-gel method in order to enhance its capacity retention. Properties of both unmodified and surface-modified $LiMn_2O_4$ were characterized by XRD, SEM, particle size analyzer while their cycling performance was tested with charge and discharge tester.
$SnO_2$ nanotubes were successfully synthesized using an electrospinning technique followed by calcination in air. The nanotubes were the single phase nature of $SnO_2$ and consisted of approximately 14 nm nanocrystals. SEM and TEM characterizations demonstrated that uniform hollow fibers with an average outer diameter of around 124 nm and wall thickness of around 25 nm were successfully obtained. As anode materials for lithium ion batteries, the $SnO_2$ nanotubes exhibited excellent cyclability and reversible capacity of $580mAhg^{-1}$ up to 25 cycles at $100mAg^{-1}$ as compared to $SnO_2$ nanoparticles with a capacity of ${\sim}200mAhg^{-1}$. Such excellent performance of the $SnO_2$ nanotube was related to the one-dimensional hollow structure which acted as a buffer zone during the volume contraction and expansion of Sn.
This paper presents the synthesis of one-dimensional spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ nanostructures using a facile and scalable two-step process. $LiMn_2O_4$ nanorods with average diameter of 100 nm and length of 1.5 ${\mu}m$ have been prepared by solid-state lithiation of hydrothermally synthesized ${\beta}$-$MnO_2$ nanorods. $LiMn_2O_4$ nanowires with diameter of 10 nm and length of several micrometers have been fabricated via solid-state lithiation of ${\beta}$-$MnO_2$ nanowires. The precursors have been lithiated with LiOH and reaction temperature and pressure have been controlled. The complete structural transformation to cubic phase and the maintenance of 1-D nanostructure morphology have been evaluated by XRD, SEM, and TEM analysis. The size distribution of the spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ nanorods/wires has been similar to the $MnO_2$ precursors. By control of reaction pressure, cubic 1-D spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ nanostructures have been fabricated from tetragonal $MnO_2$ precursors even below $500^{\circ}C$.

The mechanism of corrosion behavior has to be understood clearly to select an optimum material for handling molten salts to be used in the oxide reduction process of PWR spent fuel. In this study, the oxidation states of corrosion products on the surface of Inconel 600 and 800H as well as their chemical compositions and structural informations were determined by using XPS, ICP-AES, AAS, EPMA and XRD after the corrosion experiment with lithium molten salts at 75$0^{\circ}C$ for 25 hours. Nickel and oxygen were detected from the corrosion products on the surface of Inconel plates and chromium was found to be dissolved out into lithium molten salts leaving cracks on the surface. The corrosion products were identified as metal oxides such as Fe$_2$O$_3$, Cr$_2$O$_3$, NiO, NiFe$_2$O$_4$and MnO by using XPS and XRD.
An application of synergistic solvent extraction for the etermination of trace lithium in sea water has been studied by forming an adduct complex of thenoyltrifluoroacetone (TTA) and trioctylphosphine oxide (TOPO) in a solvent. The interference by major constituents in sea water was eliminated by phosphate precipitation. Ex-perimental conditions such as solution pH, concentrations of TTA and TOPO etc. were optimized in synthetic sea water with similar compositionto its natural counterpart. To eliminate the interference, 1.38g of ammoni-um dihydrogen phosphate and 2.5 mL of ammonia water were added into 100 mL of thediluted solution at $60^{\circ}C$ to form the phosphate precipitates of Ca2+ and Mg2+ ions. After the pH of this filtrate was adjusted to 8.0, 10.0 mL of m-xylene containing 0.1 M TTA and 0.05 M TOPO was added to the solution in a separatory funnel, and the solution was shaken vigorously for 20 minutes. The solvent was separated from the aqueous solution, and 20 uL of m-xylene solution was injected into a gaphite tube to measure the absorbance by GF-AAS. The detection limit was 0.42 ng/mL. Lithium was determined within the range of 146 to 221 ng/mLin Korean coast-al sea waters, and the recoveries in the spiked samples were 94 to 106%.
A one-step high-temperature solvothermal approach to the synthesis of monolayer or bilayer $MoS_2$ anchored onto reduced graphene oxide (RGO) sheet (denoted as $MoS_2/RGO$) is described. It was found that single-layered or double-layered $MoS_2$ were synthesized directly without an extra exfoliation step and well dispersed on the surface of crumpled RGO sheets with random orientation. The prepared $MoS_2/RGO$ composites delivered a high reversible capacity of $900mAhg^{-1}$ after 200 cycles at a current density of $200mAg^{-1}$ as well as good rate capability as anode active material for lithium ion batteries. This one-step high-temperature hydrothermal strategy provides a simple, cost-effective and eco-friendly way to the fabrication of exfoliated $MoS_2$ layers deposited onto RGO sheets.
