  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to examine the significance of Korean Medical literature on representative symptoms of postpartum deep venous thrombosis (DVT), such as lower extremity edema and pulmonary embolism. Methods : Pattern differentiation, cause, symptoms and treatment related to DVT and pulmonary embolism as written in Korean Medical texts were studied comparatively. Results : In Korean Medical understanding, DVT could be linked to lower extremity edema due to blood stagnation, while pulmonary embolism could be linked to coughing, asthma and nose bleed due to stagnated blood. Conclusions : To prevent relapse and manage its after-effects, Korean Medical treatment for DVT and pulmonary embolism is much in need.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the current state and trends of health literacy research considering migrants living in South Korea. Methods: A review of the literature was conducted using electronic data base and citation tracking. A total of 82 articles were identified, of which 16 articles that met the inclusion criteria were selected for review. Two authors reviewed the articles independently using a matrix table and then examined four aspects of the studies jointly: research method, immigrant characteristics, health literacy assessment, and main findings. Results: Most of the articles (n=13) were descriptive studies and three were methodology studies for instrument development. Of the 13 studies, eight involved female immigrants, four of health literacy involved migrant workers, and four concerned North Korean Refugees. A total of eight types of health literacy assessment tools were used. Sufficient samples and sampling methods were lacking at the population level. Conclusion: The results of the review generally showed that the health literacy of immigrants was lower than that of native South Koreans, and that there was a difference between nationality and gender among immigrants; however, further research is needed to review a larger sample with a validated instrument.

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend and indication of clinical research about Visceral Chuna Manipulation and to suggest the direction of further study. Methods We searched 9 electronic databases (MEDLINE Pubmed, EMBASE, CENTRAL, CiNii, CNKI, KMbase, OASIS, NDSL, KISS) using the search terms "visceral manipulation", "visceral manual therapy" and identified relevant literature that investigated visceral manipulation as a intervention for various subjects. Results Among 142 studies were searched and screened, 16 met designated criteria. Visceral Chuna Manipulation showed the effectiveness in musculoskeletal disease, digestive disease, psychiatry, obstetrics, circulatory and oncology. Conclusions This study shows possibility of Visceral Chuna Manipulation as a treatment for many diseases. Better designed further study is necessary to establish the evidence of clinical efficacy of visceral manipulation and to suggest standard of techniques and treatment protocols for diverse patients.

  • At a time when the demand for environmentally friendly products is soaring, the fashion industry is following suit. The industry is showing particular interest in natural-dyed products. Against this backdrop, this study conducted a literature review on the history of natural dyeing for textiles and on the types of natural dyes. In addition, this study identified recent trends in the fashion industry and applied the findings from the literature review to those trends. Through this process, possibilities for new designs were suggested. This study proposed designs for various items-t shirts, one-piece dresses, blouses, skirts, and knitwear-by using threads and textiles dyed from mugwort, Polygonum indigo, safflowers, Lithospermum erythrorhizon, and Sophora japonica flowers. This study is also meaningful in that it broadens the boundaries of design for natural-dyed fashion products. To that end, various designs were attempted by combining natural-dyed textiles or knits with leather, denim, and fur.

  • Purpose : The aim of this study is to review cost analysis methodological issues in the nursing literature. Method : The subjects of this study were articles published in Korea from 1961 to August, 2002. They were searched by key words 'cost' and 'nursing' from various DB(National Assembly Library, The National Library of Korea, RICH etc). Finally, 31 articles were collected. Results : 1) The major type of cost analysis was a cost comparison study. 2) The important methodological weaknesses were as followers: First, many studies did not describe a cost analysis framework or a cost analysis assumption. Second, a few studies described selection criteria of cost items and effectiveness items. Third, many studies did not do a sensitivity analysis. Conclusion : With these results, it will be possible to develop a more proper cost analysis methodological framework and also to make an evaluation criteria for cost analysis nursing study.

  • The purpose of this study is to discover the meaning of water and traditional water space by the literature review and field study of the water space in Korea. The water and water space were symbolized by mythology, elm-yang-oh-hang, feng-shui, taoism and confucian ideas, buddhism, shin-sun ideas, shijo and landscape panting. That is, the symbolic meanings of water and water space are melt in arts and thoughts. According to literature review and field study, the water and water space represent symbolic meanings, integration with nature, reflection of nature, territoriality, role of boundary, purgation, centralization and practical application.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the continuing education program for records managers. To reach the goal of this study, literature review and a survey was undertaken. Through literature review, essential knowledge areas of records manager were observed. The survey was also performed by 57 records managers in Korea to understand needs and satisfactions of the continuing education. In conclusion, this study suggested the continuing education program model including education contents, teaching methods, duration of lecture time, and lecturers etc.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop instructional design model of flipped learning suitable for engineering education field and to draw out effects and improvements by applying it to actual lessons for engineering college students. Literature review and case studies were conducted to achieve the purpose of the study. For a case study, flipped learning was applied to 'creative problem solving methodology' which is a liberal arts course of engineering college at D university in Gyeonggi-do. As a result of the literature review, the PARTNER model was applied and weekly instructional guide was presented by each stage. In addition, the results of analysis on the reflection journal showed that the students were more able to achieve the deepening learning stage through active participation in class than the existing class, and found that they had a more challenging plan after the class.

  • This study aims at understanding the characteristics of global economic models, which are widely used for climate change policy analysis. A literature review study was conducted in order to derive general features of top-down models such as CGE and bottom-up/hybrid models such as GTEM. Furthermore, a structural analysis was carried out by applying parameter and structural components from other models to a particular model to observe the potential differences in outcomes. Literature review shows that bottom-up or hybrid models generally have higher level of reduction potentials than top-down models in the long run. This contradicts the conclusion presented by IPCC, and raises the need for more rigorous investigation through structural analysis. Structural analysis of EPPA model indicates that the structural component of the energy sector in a particular model is the most influential factor in predicting baseline emissions and reduction potentials. This includes the structure among energy, capital, and labor inputs, and the substitution elasticities within the energy bundle. Technology bundle can establish the conclusions from literature review, and change in Armington elasticities do not significantly affect the outcome in aggregate.
