ILD DISTORTION을 이용한 MPEG SURROUND의 음질 개선 (Sound Quality Enhancement in MPEG Surround by Using ILD Distortion)

  • MPEG Surround is an audio coding technology that represents multi-channel audio signal with downmixed audio signal(s) and very low bitrate side information based on Binaural Cue Coding. The side information consists of Inter-Channel Level Difference, Inter-Channel Correlation, and payloads. These two parameters are correspondent to the well-known spatial parameters in psycho-acoustics, Inter-aural Level Difference (ILD) and Inter-Aural Cross Correlation (IACC). Though ICLD is to provide perceptually equivalent ILD to the listener, however, the ILD of the original multi-channel audio signal and that of the MPEG Surround encoded signal was different. The difference between two ILD values is defined as ILD Distortion (ILDD). This paper provides how ILDD can be applied to enhance sound quality in MPEG Surround and how much ILDD is decreased.

인공와우이식 아동의 모음공간면적과 말명료도 (Vowel Space Area and Speech Intelligibility of Children with Cochlear Implants)

  • This study measured speech intelligibility in relation to the vowel space area and the perception of the listener through acoustic analysis of children who had received cochlear implants. It also provided basic data in the evaluation of speech intelligibility by analyzing the correlation between the vowel space area and speech intelligibility. As a research method, the vowel space area was analyzed by obtaining the value of $F_1$, $F_2$ in children three years after receiving cochlear implants, and compared them to normal children by measuring speech intelligibility through interval scaling. A product-moment correlation analysis was conducted to investigate the correlation. Results showed that the vowel space area of the children who had received cochlear implants was significantly different from that of the normal children, though their speech intelligibility showed similar points to those of the normal children. The results of the correlation analysis on the vowel space area and speech intelligibility showed no significant correlation. Therefore, the period of improving intelligibility after receiving cochlear implants and the objective standards of the vowel space area could be established. In addition, the acoustic rating was required to increase the accuracy of the objective measurement in the evaluation of speech intelligibility.

한국 성인 음성의 음도인식에 관한 연구 (A Study on Pitch Perception of Normal Korean)

  • This study attempts to determine the fundamental frequency level of male and female voices that Koreans perceive as normal. Seventy-three college students majoring in Speech Pathology participated in the study on a voluntary basis. The subjects listened to a male voice with fundamental frequency of 60 Hz, 80 Hz, 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 140 Hz, 160 Hz, 180 Hz, and 200 Hz, and a female voice with fundamental frequency of 140 Hz, 160 Hz, 180 Hz, 200 Hz, 220 Hz, 240 Hz, 260 Hz, and 280 Hz. The PSOLA (Pitch Synchronous Overlap). method and harmonic modeling method of speech signal were used to change pitch in the 20 Hz interval. The voices were presented in a random order to prevent listener bias. The results were as follows; Firstly, $46.6\%$ judged male voice with 120 Hz as normal, and $19.2\%$ judged 140 Hz as normal, and another $19.2\%$ judged 160 Hz as normal. Secondly, $50.7\%$ perceived female voice with 220 Hz as normal, and $32.9\%\;and\;30.1\%$ responded to 200 Hz and 240 Hz, respectively. The problems and recommendations for a future investigation are discussed.

음성과 인상의 관계규명을 위한 실험적 연구 (Voice and Image: A Pilot Study)

  • When we hear someone's voice, even without having met the person before, we usually make up a certain mental image of the person. This study aims at investigating the relationship between the voice and the image information carried within the voice. Does the mental picture created by the voice closely reflect the real image and if not, is it related with the real image at all\ulcorner To answer the first question, a perception experiment was carried out. Speech samples reading a short sentence from 8 males and 8 females were recorded and pictures of subjects were also taken. Ajou University students were asked to participate in the experiment to match the voice with the corresponding picture. Participants in the experiment correctly match 1 female voice and 4 male voices with their corresponding pictures. However, it is interesting to note that even in cases of mismatch, the results show that there is a very strong tendency. In other words, even though participants falsely match a certain voice with a certain picture, majority of them chose the same picture for the voice. It is the case for all mismatches. It seems that voice does give the listener a certain impression about physical characteristics even if it might not be always correct. By showing that there is a clear relationship between voice and image, this study provides a starting point for further research on voice characteristics: what characteristics of the voice carry the relevant information\ulcorner This kind of study will contribute toward the understanding of the affective domain of human voice and toward the speech technology.

다수의 음원을 사용한 공간의 소리 제어 방법론 (Spatial Manipulation of Sound using Multiple Sources)

  • Spatial control of sound is essential to deliver better sound to the listener's position in space. As it can be experienced in many listening environments, the quality of sound can not be manifested over every position in a hall. This motivates us to control sound in a region we select. The primary focus of the developed method has to do with the brightness and contrast of acoustic image in space. In particular, the acoustic brightness control seeks a way to increase loudness of sound over a chosen area, and the contrast control aims to enhance loudness difference between two neighboring regions. This enables us to make two different kinds of zone - the zone of quiet and the zone of loud sound - at the same time. The other perspective of this study is on the direction of sound. It is shown that we can control the direction of perceived sound source by focusing acoustic energy in wavenumber domain. To begin with, the proposed approaches are formulated for pure-tone case. Then the control methods are extended to a more general case, where the excitation signal has broadband spectrum. In order to control the broadband signal in time domain, an inverse filter design problem is defined and solved in frequency domain. Numerical and experimental results obtained in various conditions certainly validate that the acoustic brightness, acoustic contrast, direction of wave front can be manipulated for some finite region in space and time.

  • 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 시대로 진입하면서 사물의 위치 정보를 기반으로 다양한 응용이 개발되고 있다. 무선 센서 네트워크는 저전력, 저가, 배치의 용이성 등이 주된 특징으로서 실내 위치 인식 시스템에 적합하다. 크리켓과 같은 실내 위치 인식 시스템에서는 노드간의 거리를 인식하기 위해서 초음파 신호와, 라디오 신호를 주기적으로 전송한다. 하지만 배치되는 센서 노드의 수가 증가할수록 신호간의 간섭 및 충돌 횟수가 증가하여 위치 인식 시스템의 정확도가 저하된다. 본 논문에서는 On-demand 비콘 관리 기법을 제안하여 리스너와 물리적으로 근접한 비콘 노드가 비콘 신호를 전송하여 간섭 및 충돌 현상을 최소화 시키고, 초음파 신호의 특성으로 인한 오차율을 감소시키는 알고리즘을 제안한다.

  • 일반적으로 가상 스피커 구현을 위한 음상정위 방법으로 HRTF(Head Related Transfer Function) DB를 원음에 convolution하는 기법을 사용하게 된다. 그러나 비개인화된 HRTF는 가상 스피커 구현에 있어 사용자에 따라 상/하 또는 앞/뒤 방향에 대해서 혼돈을 가져올 수 있어 정위감을 저하시킬 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 상/하, 앞/뒤 정위감을 개선하기 위해 가상 스피커 주변의 HRTF를 그룹화하여 만들어진 새로운 HRTF를 사용한 가상 스피커에 대하여 연구한다. 효과적인 HRTF 그룹화를 위해 필요한 HRTF 개수, 위치 등을 실험을 통해 결정하며, 청감 평가를 수행한다. 생성된 HRTF를 사용한 가상 스피커의 성능 평가 결과, 상/하, 앞/뒤 정위감이 개선됨을 실험을 통해 확인하였다.

담화 차원의 한국어 문법 교육을 위한 '-거든(요)'의 화용적 기능 분석 연구 (The Study of Pragmatic Functions of '-ketun(yo)' for Korean grammar teaching on a discourse level)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the pragmatic functions of '-ketun(yo)' expressed in the discourse associating with the context of communication based on the actual conversations of Korean native speakers. As discourse is closely related to the context, contextual factors surrounding the discourse should be actively considered in order to reveal the function of grammar expressed in the discourse. Also, there is need to consider the grammatical functions in terms of the linguistic user which is the subject of interaction in the discourse. Based on this necessity, in this study, we analyzed the pragmatic functions of '-ketun(yo).' As a result, '-ketun(yo)-' had a great influence on the formation and expansion of the shared context in communication contexts. The shared context is expanded through generative mutual knowledge and priori mutual knowledge. As a result of the conversation analysis, '-ketun(yo)-' was used at a high frequency in the expansion of generative mutual knowledge formation. In addition, '-ketun(yo)-' appeared to have a discourse cohesion function that binds topics with other topics. In the case that '-ketun(yo)-' is formed through priori mutual knowledge, '-ketun(yo)-' could be used as a sign to lead the union of the speaker and the listener. This study has significance in that it examines the pragmatic functions of '-ketun(yo)-' in relation to the context of communication based on actual utterance.

초급 일본인 한국어 학습자의 거절 화행 연구 : 시간차에 따른 전략 사용 양상을 중심으로 (Study on the Refusal Speech Act of Japanese Korean Learners of Beginner Level : Focusing on the aspect of strategy use by time)

  • This study aims to examine the change of strategy use by analyzing the refusal sequence of beginner Japanese Korean learners by time difference of 10 weeks. The results of the study are as follows; First, in the solidarity system of politeness(power-, distance-), learners showed similar ability as native Koreans after 10 weeks. Second, in the deference system(power-, distance+), there was a difference according to the situational burden when using strategies. In the invitational setting, the learners sought justification for their refusal or tried to negotiate by explaining in detail as time passed. However, in the request setting, they showed no will to compromise by refusing directly and leading the listener to give up. Third, similar difference was found in the use of strategies depending on the situational burden in the hierarchical system(power+, distance+). While learners could present their justification for refusal by showing their interest in the invitation as time passed in the invitation setting, they expressed straight refusal and were not willing to negotiate in the request setting.

말소리장애 아동의 말명료도와 음향학적 측정치 간 상관관계 (The Correlation between Speech Intelligibility and Acoustic Measurements in Children with Speech Sound Disorders)

  • Purpose : This study investigated the correlation between speech intelligibility and acoustic measurements of speech sounds produced by the children with speech sound disorders and children without any diagnosed speech sound disorder. Methods : A total of 60 children with and without speech sound disorders were the subjects of this study. Speech samples were obtained by having the subjects? speak meaningful words. Acoustic measurements were analyzed on a spectrogram using the Multi-speech 3700 program. Speech intelligibility was determined according to a listener's perceptual judgment. Results : Children with speech sound disorders had significantly lower speech intelligibility than those without speech sound disorders. The intensity of the vowel /u/, the duration of the vowel /${\omega}$/, and the second formant of the vowel /${\omega}$/ were significantly different between both groups. There was no difference in voice onset time between the groups. There was a correlation between acoustic measurements and speech intelligibility. Conclusion : The results of this study showed that the speech intelligibility of children with speech sound disorders was affected by intensity, word duration, and formant frequency. It is necessary to complement clinical setting results using acoustic measurements in addition to evaluation of speech intelligibility.
