  • Background: Current trends in Korea population aging with advances in public health and clinical medicine foretell rises in the prevalence of not only chronic diseases but also patients with multimorbidity. One important aspect in analyzing multimorbidity is to define the list of chronic diseases included when calculating multimorbidity index. The objective of this study is to describing the effect of multimorbidity on healthcare cost in Korea using US Office of the Assistant Secretary of Health (OASH) list. Methods: We analyzed the Korea Health Panel Data representing non-institutionalized Korean adult populations aged 20 and more. We calculated multimorbidity index based on OASH list and estimated the prevalence and healthcare cost for each OASH chronic disease. Results: In 2011, 15.2 million (39.6%) Koreans aged 20 and more were living with chronic condition. The health care cost due to chronic diseases, accounted for 80.2% of the overall healthcare costs and the prevalence of chronic conditions, the prevalence of multimorbidity and healthcare cost increased with ages. In the analysis using OASH list, 40% of the adult population over the age of 20 and 66.7% of the population over the age of 65 was affected with multimorbidity. In most of diseases in OASH list, prevalence of mulitmorbidity was high and healthcare cost increased with multimorbidity. Conclusion: OASH chronic disease list that accounts for 72.4% of prevalence and 86.7% of healthcare cost of persons with chronic conditions in Korea. OASH chronic disease list would be a useful and representative indicator for studying multimorbidity.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to present a preferred parts list, establish a search tool for common parts, and propose a development plan for parts management. Methods: When selecting the preferred parts list, the weight of the selection of the military parts and the online site of the civilian parts were taken into account. By establishing a database of selected preferred parts list, we have established a system for searching common parts. Results: The results of this study are as follows; In order to establish parts management work in Korea's defense, it is necessary to improve the Defense Acquisition Program Act, Enforcement Decree (Rules), and the Regulations for Defense Acquisition Program Administration. Development of performance indicators for parts management is required, and establishment of procedures and standards for selection of preferred parts lists is required. Considerations for the selection of preferred parts list include whether they are used a lot in civilian products, whether they are used a lot, whether they are certified suppliers, whether they are national and industrial standard products, whether they perform well considering reliability, durability, and quality, and whether they can be supplied continuously. Conclusion: It is necessary to establish policies and systems related to parts management and to establish criteria for selecting preferred parts list for the development of domestic parts management tasks.

  • Top-k queries return k objects that users most want in the database. The Partitioned-Layer Index (simply, the PL -index) is a representative method for processing the top-k queries efficiently. The PL-index partitions the database into a number of smaller databases, and then, for each partitioned database, constructs a list of sublayers over the partitioned database. Here, the $i^{th}$ sublayer in the partitioned database has the objects that can be the top-i object in the partitioned one. To retrieve top k results, the PL-index merges the sublayer lists depending on the user's query. The PL-index has the advantage of reading a very small number of objects from the database when processing the queries. However, since many random accesses occur in merging the sublayer lists, query performance of the PL-index is not good in environments like disk-based databases. In this paper, we propose the Abstracted Partitioned-Layer Index (simply, the APL-index) that significantly improves the query performance of the PL-index in disk-based environments by reducing the number of random accesses. First, by abstracting each sublayer of the PL -index into a virtual (point) object, we transform the lists of sublayers into those of virtual objects (ie., the APL-index). Then, we virtually process the given query by using the APL-index and, accordingly, predict sublayers that are to be read when actually processing the query. Next, we read the sublayers predicted from each sublayer list at a time. Accordingly, we reduce the number of random accesses that occur in the PL-index. Experimental results using synthetic and real data sets show that our APL-index proposed can significantly reduce the number of random accesses occurring in the PL-index.

  • The Japanese colonial authority investigated and institutionalized Korea's cultural properties for the purpose of governance. This process was conducted by Japanese officials and scholars, and systematized after making some changes. The Reservation Rule (1916) and the cultural properties designated in 1934 were actually the starting point for Korea's current cultural property policy. In the view of lineup of 'committee' that consider all of cultural property and changing of 'cultural property list', this study discusses the cultural property policy implemented by Joseon's Government-General, which can be summarized as follows. First, Joseon's Government-General formed a committee (Preservation Society) to formulate the cultural property policy, and had the policy implemented by appointing Governor officials who accounted for more than half the total number of officials of the institution. Although some Koreans were concerned about this, they had no influence on the matter. Second, the cultural properties listed by Joseon's Government-General are divided into three periods according to the lists. The compilation of the first list was led by Sekino Tadashi, who represented the grading system (1909~1916); while that of the second list (1917~1933) was led by Guroita Gatsumi, who represented listing (1917~1933). Guroita Gatsumi tried to erase Sekino Tadashi's list by formulating the cultural property policy and the list - a situation that was revealed in the system and the actual contents of the list. The third list was made as a list of designated cultural properties in 1934. This list also reflected the results of Sekino Tadashi investigation of the important cultural properties at existing temples that had been excluded from the previous regulations (1934~1945). In this way, a basic framework for the listing of Korean cultural properties was established in 1934.

  • The IUCN Red List of Ecosystems serves as a global standard for assessing and identifying ecosystems at high risk of biodiversity loss, providing scientific evidence necessary for effective ecosystem management and conservation policy formulation. The IUCN Red List of Ecosystems has been designated as a key indicator (A.1) for Goal A of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The assessment of the Red List of Ecosystems discerns signs of ecosystem collapse through specific criteria: reduction in distribution (Criterion A), restricted distribution (Criterion B), environmental degradation (Criterion C), changes in biological interaction (Criterion D), and quantitative estimation of the risk of ecosystem collapse (Criterion E). Since 2014, the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems has been evaluated in over 110 countries, with more than 80% of the assessments conducted in terrestrial and inland water ecosystems, among which tropical and subtropical forests are distributed ecosystems under threat. The assessment criteria are concentrated on spatial signs (Criteria A and B), accounting for 68.8%. There are three main considerations for applying the Red List of Ecosystems assessment domestically: First, it is necessary to compile applicable terrestrial ecosystem types within the country. Second, it must be determined whether the spatial sign assessment among the Red List of Ecosystems categories can be applied to the various small-scale ecosystems found domestically. Lastly, the collection of usable time series data (50 years) for assessment must be considered. Based on these considerations, applying the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems assessment domestically would enable an accurate understanding of the current state of the country's unique ecosystem types, contributing to global efforts in ecosystem conservation and restoration.

  • Generally. in the molecular dynamics simulations. the Verlet neighboring list algorithm is used for the reduction of a simulation time On the other hand. the application of the Verlet neighboring list forces the time evolution of a simulation system to follow an unrealistic path in a phase space. In equilibrium state, it does not matter with the simulation results because the individual molecule's motion is originally random and any effect due to a small deviation from a real time evolution can be completely ignored. However, if an unsteady state is involved. such a deviation may significantly affect to the results. That is, there is a Possibility that the simulation results Provide ones with any misleading data In this study we evaluated the effect due to the Verlet neighboring list in performing the simulation of a non-equilibrium state and suggested the method to avoid it.

  • In an effort to protect consumers' rights to information and to promote their freedom of choice, the South Korean government has been enforcing a policy called the cosmetics full ingredients list system since 2008, which requires cosmetics manufacturers to list all of the ingredients used in their products. This policy aims to assist consumers in identifying the causes of possible side effects of cosmetic products. This study uses consumers' demographic information addition to their cosmetics purchase and usage characteristics to learn about consumers' attitudes and utilization intentions and the influence of information from the cosmetics full ingredients list. This study was conducted through a questionnaire based survey administered to women above the age of 20 years across South Korea who use cosmetic products. The questionnaire was distributed to 300 members on the panel of M Brain, an online research institute. The findings of this study are as follows: (1) The level of knowledge on cosmetics' ingredients positively affected the consumers' attitude and utilization intention of information on the cosmetics full ingredients list. (2) The higher the utilization intention for information, the more often consumers checked the packaging of goods. This implies that habitual behavior, such as checking information, leads to increasing intention to utilize of new information. (3) The brand, as a decision-making factor, negatively affected consumers' attitudes regarding information.

  • As more and more people are interest in mobile broadcasting, they want to use many kinds of mobile contents. On that account, DMB standard has been developed in Korea. Users can use various contents, because DMB System based on DAB System can provide not only audio service but also media service. However, as more contents increase, users will have to wait more to select Program List, which is why DMB System transports MPEG-2 TS contents by MSC. To solve this problem we propose that first we find major fields needed for generating program list, and then these fiends insert to FIC by extending UAI. We conduct some experiments to verify our proposed method is efficient. The results implies that our proposed method generate program list faster than that of previous method by 36.78%.

  • An ACL(: Access List), a list that determines network access, is used for the security of the network. An ACL if applied to a interface of router can filter particular packets. Also it can block or allow the access of certain unauthorized IPs or ports, based on the source address, destination address, and TCP/UDP port. This paper presents a simulation case to verify the effect of a router-based network applying Standard ACL or Extended ACL. The network was created through designing topology and then making a common virtual network using a Packet Tracer.
