LRE(Liquid propellant Rocket Engine) is one of the important parts to control the trajectory and dynamics of rocket. The purpose of control of LRE is to control the thrust according to requiredthrust profile and control the mixture ratio of propellants fed into gas generator and combustor for constant mixture ratio. It is not easy to control thrust and mixture ratio of propellants since there are co-interferences among the components of LRE. In this study, the dynamic model of LRE was constructed and the dynamic characteristics were analyzed with control system as PID control and PID+Q-ILC(Iterative Learning Control with Quadratic Criterion) control. From the analysis, it could be observed that PID+Q-ILC control logic is more useful than standard PID control system for control of LRE.

A program aiming at predicting dynamic characteristics of a Liquid Rocket Engine(LRE) was developed and examined to trace entire LRE operation. In the startup period, transient characteristics of the propellant flows were predicted and validated with hydraulic tests data. An arrangement of each component for the pipelines was based on an operating circuit of open cycle LRE. The flow rate ratio for the gas generator and the main chamber was determined to mimic that of real open cycle LRE. Individual component modeling at its transient was completed and was integrated into the system prediction program. Essential parameters of the component dynamic characteristics were examined in an integrated fashion.

This paper treats with the history and current trends in the developments of liquid-propellant rocket engine in Russia and Ukraine which are among world leaders in the technology of liquid rocket engine(LRE). In 1960s formerly the Soviet Union accepted the closed cycle engine for increasing the pressure in the combustion chamber and specific impulse to the maximum. However, since financially difficult times after 1990, they have decreased the cost for the development of new rocket engines. It was achieved by using existing units for new developed engines and minimizing the total number of engines and tests through the reasonable planning in the process for the experimental improvement of LRE. In addition, nowadays international cooperation in supplying LRE for commercial rocket and development of next generation LRE, such as 3 components engines and mathane engines, are proceeding.

The method of decreasing the ecological risk for the LRE(Liquid Rocket Engine) test is developed, working on the cryogenic oxidizer and the high-boiling fuel(Kerosene). This Method is based on the study that contains a technical solution method and an accident occurrence range for decreasing of accident probability and damage. This paper contains schematic on the all risk circumstance bring to accident, block-diagram for an accident growth process in case of the propellant leakage, technical solution method and risk reduction evaluation method. It will be used to alternative method for the risk reduction of complex technical systems.

A project where the TPUs(Turbo Pump Units) for 10tf-thrust oxygen/methane LRE (Liquid Rocket Engine) are under development is being implemented to include an experimental combustion chamber developed. In the process of it, we introduced the power-balanced engine cycles in order to substantiate concepts of the engine using the combinations of the propellants. Accordingly, the main engine parameters of nominal operating mode are resulted from the 1-Dcalculations and it is found that the regulators are needed for controlling the expected pressure levels in the characteristics of propellant mixture ratio and thrust supposing the regulator is set to analogue-typed one which is easy to develop. The technical requirements like the nominal flow rate, its deviations expected and the pressure difference In need helped the several main characteristics of regulators to be determine in this stage. Here, a dozen of deviation values in the main parameters related to engineoperation are taken into independent consideration and accepted to the results for additional regimes of the regulators. Finally, we can determine the scheme and the primary dimensions along with the calculation design of the spring acceptable for general configuration which can definitely forwarded to the autonomous tests of the aggregates, The obtained data in further will be used for successive refinement of operating mode of the engine.

This work is to observe combustion characteristics depending on variation of the solid propellent grain configuration. The LRE (Liquid Rocket Engine) enables adjusting the thrust by controling the required fuel mass glow, but the SRM(Solid Rocket Motor)is not easy to adjust th thrust due to the difficulty of th fuel flow control by its combustion behavior even its configuration is simple. This difficulty can be partly solved by changing th size or the configuration of the propellant grain. In this study a proper grain configuration of a small solid rocket is selected through both the theoretical design and the experimental tests.

The development of a turbopump is fundamental to have an independent LRE(liquid rocket engine) for KSLV-II. Recently, the detail design of a turbopump real-propellant test facility based on liquid oxygen and kerosene has been performed to structure the test facility for the experimental validation of the turbopump. In this paper, the design requirements of the turbopump and the specifications of the test facility was presented and the representative sub-facilities were explained on the basis of the design results. Also, the uncertainty of the sub-facilities which could be appeared during the operation was removed in advance through the simulation method and the experimental verification.

Injector is one of the most important elements in Liquid rocket Engine design, and how to arrange these injectors on the head determines the engine performance. In this study, when the swirl injectors are used for the 1st designing of injector head of 170 tonf UDMH-LOX as the propellant of LRE, a distribution relation of the mass flow rate per unit area was calculated from the function of ${\Phi}$, which is related with the mass flow rate characteristics of swirl injector. And the combustion characteristics by circumferential axis were estimated using this relation under the consideration of combustion core and film cooling area.

To research and develop a liquid rocket engine injector, it needs empirical studies about the hydrodynamic and spray characteristics such as pressure drop, mixing and atomization. In this study, the design and implementation of lab-scale cold-flow/hot fire test stand which can supply cryogenic propellant and be controlled by time-critical LabVIEW cyclogram logic has been done. In order to visualize the spray of a liquid-centered swirl coaxial injector in cryogenic condition, LN2-GN2 cold-flow test has been done, and combustor assembly and thrust bed for LOX-$GCH_4$ hot-fire test have been fabricated.

Securing the safety and the reliability of liquid-propellant rocket engines (LREs) for space vehicles is indispensable as engines consist of many complex components and operate under extremely high energy-dense conditions. Thus, health monitoring has become a mandatory requirement, especially for the reusable LREs that are currently being developed. In this context, a dynamic simulation program based on MATLAB/Simulink was developed in the current research on the Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME), a partly reusable engine. Then, a series of fault simulations using this program was conducted: at a steady state operating condition (104% Rated Propulsion Level), various simulated fault conditions were artificially injected into the simulation models for the five major valves, the pumps, and the turbines of the SSME. The consequent effects due to each fault were analyzed based on the time responses of the major parameters of the engine. It is believed that this research topic is an essential pre-step for the development of fault detection and diagnosis algorithms for reusable engines in the future.
