  • Egg yolk oil was obtained from a roasting and Pressure egg yolks obtained from cage system, open barn system, respectively. Lipids in egg yolk oil were extracted with a mixture of chroform: methanol (2:1, v/v) and fractionated into neutral lipid, glycolipid and phospholipid by silicic aicd column chromatography. Lipid components of each fraction were determined by thin layer chromatography (TLC). The results were sum- marized as follows: lipid content of egg yolk from each cage system (A) and open barn system (B) was 31. 05% and 33.34%, and the lipid is made up of neutral lipid 76.60%, 71.23%, glycolipid 3.95%, 5.03% and phospholipids 19.45%, 23.74% respectively. Triglycerides (A: 59.3%, B: 56.3%) were the major components among the neutral lipids; monoglycerides, diglycerides, free sterols, and free fatty acids were the minor cop- monents. The major components of the glycolipids were digalactosyl diglycerides (A: 98.3%, B: 97.8%), the other components were cerebrosides. The major components of the phophoslipids were phosphatidyl choline plus phosphatidyl serine (A: 58.6%, B: 59.8%) the other components were lecithin plus sphingomyelin.

  • The objective of this study was to compare the quality characteristics of cultured and red sea bream. The color of dorsal muscle was different between wild and cultured red sea bream. Lipid content of the dorsal muscle was higher in cultured fish than in wild one. The contents of moisture and crude protein in cultured fish muscle were almost same as those of wild one. Sensory evaluation of raw fish meat showed that cultured fish had lower preference in appearance, taste and texture than wild one. Especially the texture of cultured raw fish meat had lower preference than wild meat. For cooked fish meat, cultured fish were harder and less juicy than wild fish. These textural differences between wild and cultured meats were confirmed by objective evaluation including the measurements of hardness, springiness, and cohesiveness. Light microscopic observation showed that cultured red sea bream had more lipid in the surface layer near epidermis than wild one. Also more lipid droplet between muscle fibers were observed in cultured red sea bream by SEM.

  • In order to investigate polar lipid ingredients and fat쇼 acid compositions in corn embryo, lipids were extracted with n-hexane (HX), pet. ether (PE), chloroform-methanol (2:1, v/v) (CM), dichoromethane-methanol (2:1, v/v DM) and hexane-diethyl ether (5:1, v/v HD). Of the glycolipid in polar lipids were separated by thin layer chormatogarphy (TLC), monoglycosyl diacyglycerol was most efficient with CM, HD, and monoglycosy sterol and monoglycosyl ceramide were similar to five solvents, but HX, PE and DM, HD were somewhat superior, respectively. Of the phospholipid, phosphatidyl inositol was most efficient with CM, DM, and phosphatidyl choline was similar to five solvents as well. Phosphatidyl serine was superior PE, HD, CM to HX, and phosphatidyl ethanolamine was inferior CM to HX. The major fatty acid in the glycolipid was linoleic acid, and it was most efficient with CM the same as plamitic acid, but oleic acid was superior in using HX, PE. The major fatty acids in the phospholipid were palmitic, heptadecanoic aicds, and they were superior in using HX and PE, respectively. Also oleic acid was most efficient with HX and CM, but HD was somewhat inferior.

  • This paper presents the effect of the supramolecular complex of GA (Glycyrrhizic acid) and Mt(menthol) and GA: Mt (4: 1) obtained on their basis can restore functional dysfunction of the liver mitochondria in alloxan diabetes, ie, inhibit lipid peroxidation. The hypoglycemic activity and mitochondrial membrane stabilizing properties of the supramolecular compound GA: Mt (4: 1) in alloxan diabetes were more pronounced than those of menthol, GA and its GK: Mt (2: 1) and GA: Mt (9: 1) compounds. According to the results obtained, the concentration of GA did not affect the peroxidation of lipid membranes of the liver mitochondria. However, a concentration of 15 μM of GA was found to reduce LPO (lipid peroxidation) formed by the effect of Fe2+ / ascorbate on the mitochondrial membrane by 58.0 ± 5.0% relative to control. The inhibitory effect of GA and its supramolecular compounds in different proportions with menthol on the peroxidation of lipids in rat heart and brain tissue has been studied

  • The changes of protein bodies in endosperm cells of both seeds with red seed coat and indehiscent seeds of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer have been investigated in relation to the embryo development. In the early stage of seeds with red seed coat, spherical spherosomes were distributed in endosperm cells. Protein bodies were formed from vacuoles containing the storage protein. Cell organelles were hardly observed in the cytoplasm. In the late stage of the seed with red seed coat, the endosperm was filled with spherosomes and protein bodies. The protein bodies consisted of amorphous inclusions with high electron density or proteinaceous matrix with even electron density. In the seed of in dehiscence, the protein body in endosperm cells contained globoids and protein crystalloids. The globoid of protein body had a electron dense materials. Umbiliform layer was formed between embryo and endosperm. The deformation patterns of endosperm cell wall and the cellulose microfibril were observed in endosperm cells near the umbiliform layer. Umbiliform layer consisted of lipid body and autolyzed cell debris. The protein body of endosperm cell near the umbiliform layer showed various degenerative patterns, and so electron density of proteinaceous matrix was gradually decreased.reased.

  • For the purpose of investigating whether the administration of sunflower pollen load has any influence upon liver cholesterol metabolism in mouse, lipids were isolated from sunflower pollen load, identified and quantitated by thin-layer and gas liquid chromatographies. We also studied changes in liver cholesterol level in mouse according to the amount and the period of pollen load administration. Lipids of sunflower pollen load were constituted 84.10f of neutral lipid, 10.50% of glycolipid and 5.40% of phospholipid. The main fatty acid contents of neutral lipid, glycolipid and phospholipid were ranged 28.48 to 33.70% of linoleic acid, 12.90 to 47.50% of palmitic acid ana 11.20 to 12.20% of oleic acid, however, phospholipid contained more palmitic acid than the other lipids. The body weight of the Pollen fed mouse significantly increased during experimental Period in comparison with control group. From the fact tat the ratio of liver weight to body weight of pollen fed mouse was smaller than that of control group, it was proved that liver lipid metabolism of pollen fed mouse was more active than that of control group. During early experimental period, liver cholesterol level had been increased according to pollen load administration(P.O), and then the level decreased rapidly to the similar level to that of control group at the end of the period.

  • Objectives Hwangnyeonhaedok-tang is a Korean herbal medical treatment that removes toxic heat, fever and inflammation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Hwangnyeonhaedok-tang treatment on the relief of atopic dermatitis (AD) through regeneration of skin lipid barrier. Methods Male NC/Nga mice (20 g, 6 week age) were used. Each 10 mice were allocated to the control group (Ctrl), the AD-induced with no treatment group (AE), and the group which induced AD after administering Hwangnyeonhaedok-tang extract (HT). To induce AD-like skin lesions, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) (Sigma-Aldrich, USA) was rubbed on the back of each mouse to remove the lipid lamella of the stratum corneum, and Dermatophagoides (D.) farinae crude extract was applied. HT group was orally administered Hwangnyeonhaedok-tang after induction of AD. IL-4 IL-13, $p-I{\kappa}B$, iNOS, Sudan Black B (SB), loricrin, and filaggrin were observed to confirm the effect. Results In HT group, AD skin score was decreased by 46%. The cytokine IL-4 and IL-13, which can identify Th2 differentiation, was reduced by 73% and 58% each. Anti-inflammatory effects were observed in $p-I{\kappa}B$ and iNOS by 69% and 54%, respectively. Finally, SB showed that the regeneration of the lipid layer and the increase of the regeneration power of loricrin and filaggrin were increased by 437% and 464%, respectively. Conclusions From the study result, we observed that Hwangnyeonhaedok-tang treatment alleviates AD by decreasing skin score, reducing Th2 differentiation, inducing anti-inflammatory, and increasing skin lipid barrier regeneration. Thus, Hwangnyeonhaedok-tang treatment would be considered as an effective AD relieving treatment.

  • Al-laminated packaging film incorporating ascorbic acid or tocopherol at inner food contact layer was tested in the potential to improve antioxidative preservation of powdered infant formula under CO2-enriched atmosphere. Product of 200 g was packaged with the packaging film containing 0.3% antioxidant in sealant layer of low density polyethylene and stored at 30℃ for 286 days with periodic measurement of package atmosphere and product's quality attributes. The CO2-flushed package resulted in shrinkage of tight contact between the product and the film not allowing gas sampling of package atmosphere after 140 days. Package of tocopherol-incorporated film allowed some ingress of oxygen after 112 days presumably due to its weakening of heat-seal area. The increased oxygen concentration in the tocopherol-added film package led to the concomitant increase of peroxide value, an index of lipid oxidation. On the other hand, packaging of ascorbic acid-added film pouch could suppress lipid oxidation marginally in consistent manner compared to control package without any antioxidant.

  • Lipid fractions of the roots of cultured (five years old) and wild (eight years old) Codonopsis lanceolata were analyzed. The most abundant fraction of the lipids extracted from cultured and wild roots of C. lanceolata was neutral lipid and the next came phospholipid and glycolipid in descending order. The percentage, however, of the neutral lipid in total lipid was comparatively low, while that of phospholipid, particularly high; 41.30% and 29.34% in that of cultured and wild one respectively. The richest fraction of neutral lipid was triglyceride; 39.49% and 32.88% in the cultured and the wild respectively, and followed by sterol esters and free acid. Noticed amounts of sterol esters and monoglycerides which is able to be used as an emulsifiers, were contained in the neutral lipid of roots; 27.74% and 5.11% respectively. The unsaturated fatty acid fraction of the total lipid hydrolyzate contained in cultured and wild C. lanceolata roots was 72.87% and 74.37% respectively. The main fatty acid contained in the total lipid hydrolyzate was linoleic acid, and followed by linolenic acid palmitic acid. The main saturated fatty acid was palmitic acid and lauric acid.

  • The composition of the neutral lipids in the free and bound lipids from four varieties of experimentally cultivated potatoes were identified and quantified by thin layer- and gas-liquid chromatographies. The results were summarized as follows ; 1. The neutral lipids contained in the free and bound lipids were fractionated and identified as esterified sterol, triglyceride, diglyceride, free fatty acid, and free sterol, of which triglyceride and esterified sterol were most abundant. Meanwhile, the triglyceride and esterified sterol contents in the free lipid to the total lipid quantity were 10 and 2.7 % respectively, approximately 3 times higher than the 3.0 and 0.8 % contained in the bound lipid. 2. The fatty acid composition of the neutral lipids in the free and bound lipids was the same as that of the total free and bound lipids. The only difference was that content of saturated fatty acid was lower rate in the neutral lipid of the free lipid than in the total free lipid, whereas the unsaturated fatty acid was more abundant in the neutral lipid of the free lipid. Fatty acid composition of individual neutral lipid was of almost the same pattern as that of the total neutral lipid.
