  • This paper describes UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) control system which employs PC104 modules. It is controlled by application program based on Linux OS. This application consists of both Linux device driver in kernel-space and user application in user-space. In order to get data required in the unmanned flight, external devices are connected to PC104 modules. We explain how Linux device drivers deal with data transmitted by external devices and we account for how the user application controls UAV on the basis of data processed in the device driver as well. Furthermore we look into the role of GCS (Ground Control Station) which is to monitor the state of UAV.

  • The SoC and digital technology development recently enabled the emergence of information devices and control devices because the SoC present many advantages such as lower power consumption, greater reliability, and lower cost. It is required to use an embedded operating system for building control systems. So far, the Real-Time operating system is widely used to implement a Real-Time system since it meets developer's requirements. However, Real-Time operating systems reveal a lack of standards, expensive development, and license costs. Embedded Linux is able to overcome these disadvantages. In this paper, the implementation of control system platform using Real-Time Embedded Linux is described. As a control system platform, we use XScale of a Soc and build Real-Time control platform using RTAI and Real-Time device driver. Finally, we address the feasibility study of the Real-Time Embedded Linux as a Real-Time operating system for mobile robots.

  • NRD(Network RamDisk) is a scheme which allows a system to use the memory of the remote systems just as his own block device via networking. Basically, it consists of a client requesting an NRD access and server providing the NRD. In this paper, we describe the design, implementation and experiment of the block device driver for accessing the NRD in the Linux kernel(2.6) level. First of all, we have analyzed the flow of processing the requests for accessing the block devices in the traditional Linux kernel and figured out the additional functions required for supporting the NRD. Then we have designed and implemented the device diver of NRD client and NRD server for providing these functions. Finally, we have established a NRD server system, and reviewed its functional feasibility by experimenting the requests of NRD access through the NRD device driver implemented on a NRD client.

  • Since IoT devices include various sensors and drivers, application programmers need to understand the structure and characteristics of sensors and actuators. If the manufacturer provides the driver of the sensor or actuator, IoT development can be efficiently carried out, which is called the Plug & Play technique. What matters is that the technique proposed by this research team in the past are not suitable for Arduino or Raspberry-Pi, which are recently used. In this paper, we propose a USB sensor device that can be mounted on a Raspberry-Pi. When the device is plugged into the Raspberry-Pi, the built-in driver is transmitted and played. The configuration of the USB sensor device was presented, and considerations for chip selection for processing sensors and drivers were presented.

  • Recently, most embedded systems have the multi-functions mixed the hardware with the software. The existing sequence programming methods are not suitable to implement the embedded system with multi-functions. So, it can be overcome the limit of a facility implementation by introducing the operating system in system. Also, due to the requirement about the better convenient and comfortable meeting or lecture environment, the necessity of electronic white-board is getting higher. Specially, the education using multimedia information is much more desirable for various and improved lecture at the high school and the university. But the sequence program which have been managed in existing electronic white-board system has some difficulties to achieve the software-oriented systems which has to accomplish many functions. In this paper, we propose the method to implement a facility of electronic white-board through using the embedded linux with excellent performance. The embedded linux presents the powerful software environment for the implementation of an embedded system and makes the realization of many various functions easy because it follows kernel characteristics of linux. In this paper, we describe the details for the structure of hardware, kernel source and device driver of a developed electronic white-board.

  • In this paper, web based monitoring systems are implemented for multi-axis force control systems of an intelligence robot. A web based monitoring system is implemented by porting Linux at embeded systems which include Xscale processors. A divice driver is developed to receive data from multy-axis force sensors in Linux operation systems. To control this device driver, a soket program for web browser is also developped.

  • Baseboard Management Controller(BMC) supports server monitoring, maintenance, and control functions using various communication interfaces. However, if an unexpected problem occurs during the device driver initialization process, the BMC may not operate normally. Therefore, a boot process profiling tool that accurately analyzes the device driver initialization process and provides a function to check the analysis result is essential. Existing boot process profiling tools do not specifically provide the device driver initialization process and results required for BMC boot process analysis, forcing developers to use a combination of tools to analyze the boot process in detail. In this paper, we propose an integrated profiling tool for BMC's booting process. The proposed tool provides device driver initialization process analysis, CPU and memory usage analysis, and kernel version management functions. Users can easily analyze the booting process using the proposed tool, and the analysis result can be used to shorten the booting time. Also, the proposed tool is implemented in Linux-based BMC, and it is shown that the proposed tool is more efficient than the existing profiling tool.

  • The way to develop an IoT device is to mount the sensor required by the application on a platform such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi, and write the sensor driver and application. At this time, if the driving driver for the sensor has already been written and the application can access the driver as a standardized API, then Plug&Play of the sensor will be possible. The old way to do this is because the sensor interface is too complicated to use on the current platform. In this paper, when a standardized sensor and driver with a USB terminal are plugged into the Raspberry Pi, we propose a method for automatically installing the driver. Application developers can get sensor values through Linux's file access API without worrying about sensor drivers. The proposed technique is currently being implemented on Raspberry-Pi.

  • The number of applications of small embedded systems such as PDAs, electronic note books, etc. based on Kinux, have increased. Due to the monolithic characteristic of Linux kernel, it is not suitable to satisfy the various kinds of embedded application requirement. To assist the shortcoming of monolithic kernel, we implement uJFFS 113th file system as an application program process which runs in user space. This solution consists of a file system and a flash device driver, and makes Linux kernel smaller by separating the file system from the kernel. uJFFS consists of ujffs_fs that plays a part of file system and ujffs_drv that controls a flash device. Which provides the same user interface as Linux does. A Device driver for the physical device is implemented in user pace, which prevents kernel failures from file system errors. So uJFFS can increase stability of the system.
