  • A high power amplifier(HPA) has widely been used in wireless communications. In order to have a maximum power efficiency, the HPA uses a saturation domain having nonlinear characteristics, which generates nonlinear distortions to decrease the transmission efficiency. In order to solve this problem, various methods to linearize HPA have been reported until now, and the pre-distorter method is very attractive among them. In this paper, a new enhanced adaptive pre-distorter method was proposed to be applied for compensating nonlinear distortions of HPA. Through computer simulations as well as the analytical analysis, it could be shown that it is possible for both conventional adaptive pre-distorter and proposed adaptive pre-distorter, to be applied for linearizing HPA. Also, the simulations results demonstrated that the proposed adaptive pre-distorter may have faster convergence speed and better capability of compensating the nonlinear distortion than the conventional adaptive pre-distorter with nearly equal computation complexity.

  • The ability to linearize a nonlinear system by feedback and coordinate change reduces to finding an integrating factor for a one-form which is determined from the system dynamics. Utilizing Taylor series expansion of this one-form, we characterize approximate linearizabilitu. A constructive method is derived for approximate linearization up to order 2.

  • In order to linearize the nonlinear systems, two different methods(i.e. state coordinate change and feedback) are usually used. In this paper, we consider the multi-input discrete-time nonlinear systems and obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for both the linearization problem by state-coordinate change and the feedback linearization problem. The way of finding state coordinate change and state feedback which linearize the given system is also given in the proof.

  • In fields of controlling acoustical noises, the overall adaptive control system is nonlinear due to the loudspeaker, amplifiers, converters, and microphones, etc. and the performance of noise control is decreased by the extent of nonlinearities, so an adaptive control system compensating nonlinear distortions is needed. In this paper, a new multi-channel adaptive noise controller was proposed, which was combined with the adaptive compensator to effectively linearize nonlinear distortions in the overall adaptive control system. Through computer simulations, the proposed adaptive compensator could linearize the nonlinear distortions and the proposed noise controller had better capability of controlling the noises than the conventional LMS controller.

  • In this paper, the method to linearize the non-linearity of diode and to compensate the characteristics change of diode with the temperature is studied. Square root circuit is used to linearize the non-linearity of diode about the input power, and two identical diodes and OP-Amps, which have variable reference, are used to compensate the characteristic change of diode with the temperature. As the result, designed diode power detector (with the square root circuit and temperature compensation circuit) can detect the output power linearly with the 0.23 $\pm$0.025V/dBm rate in the case the input power is greater than -6 dBm, and the designed circuit operates stably with no variation in the output data about the temperature change from the room temperature to 8$0^{\circ}C$.

  • In this paper, we have presented an improved design of the microwave level meter based on the principle of FM-CW radar. First, we have analyzed the effect of VCO nonlinearity on the spectral broadening of the beat signal, and presented a new type of design theory to linearize VCO tuning curve adopting FFT algorithm. Simulation results for a VCO having the linearity of 25% have been presented, which show the usefulness of the design algorithm.

  • This paper describes a relationship of a space vector PWM and a sinusoidal PWM and presents that the space vector PWM can produce linearly the output voltage to the unity MI(modulation index). At first, reference angles and holding angles are derived from expanding a Fourier series of the reference voltage waveform and then the angles are used for the inverter switching to linearize transfer characteristics of the inverter. In addition, the harmonic components of the output voltage are analyzed and on-line control is shown to be feasible by approximating in piecewise-linearization the reference and holding angles versus the MI. In V/f control of the induction motor, it is verified by the experiment that the motor current is changed smoothly for the variation of the inverter input voltage and the change of the reference voltage.

  • In radar tracking, since the sensor measures range, azimuth and elevation angle of a target, the measurement equation is nonlinear and the extended Kalman filter (EKF) is applied to nonlinear estimation. The conventional EKF has been widely used as a nonlinear filter for radar tracking, but the considerably large measurement error due to the linearization of nonlinear function in highly nonlinear situations may deteriorate the performance of the EKF. To solve this problem, a fuzzy-model-based Kalman filter (FMBKF) is proposed for radar tracking. The FMBKP uses a local model approximation based on a TS fuzzy model instead of a Jacobian matrix to linearize nonlinear measurement equation. The hybrid GA and RLS method is used to identify the premise and the consequent parameters and the rule numbers of this TS fuzzy model. In two-dimensional radar tracking problem, the proposed method is compared with the conventional EKF.

  • In iris recognition, iris segmentation plays a very important role because its accuracy affects directly to the performance of the whole system. This paper proposes a new approach for segmenting iris that is fast, accurate and especially robust to occlusion and illumination. In this method, a circular filter is used for detecting the center of the inner circle. Then, a technique to linearize the limbus is applied and the limbus is detected using a linear filter. Experimental results show that the proposed method has promising performance for improving the iris recognition accuracy.

  • This paper presents position control of nonlinear three-dimensional crane systems using neural network approach. Such crane system generally includes very complicated characteristic dynamics and mechanical framework such that its mathematical model is expressed by strong nonlinearity. This leads difficulty in control design for the systems. We linearize the nonlinear system model to construct PID control applying well-known linear control theory and then neural network is utilized to compensate system perturbation due to linearization. Thus, control input of the crane system is composed of nominal PID and neural output signals respectively. Our method illustrates simple design procedure, but system perturbation and modelling error are overcome through a neural compensator. As well. adaptive neural control is constructed from online learning. Computer simulation demonstrates our control approach is superior to the classic control systems.
