균열선단 개구변위를 이용한 파괴인성 평가와 구속효과와의 관계 (The Relationship between Fracture Toughness and Constraint Effect using Crack Tip Opening Displacement)

  • For the CT specimen of 25.4mm thickness SS400 steel, the fracture toughness and the magnitude of constraint effect, $A_2$ on the non-linear elastoplastic fracture behaviors were experimentally estimated by crack tip opening displacement. In order to estimate constraint effect, displacement measurement position near crack front should be the existed within plastic region. But it is found that the displacement measurement positions by the ${\delta}_5$ method are in elastic region at crack growth initiation. Hence the estimate of constraint effect, $A_2$ by the ${\delta}_5$ method was not reliable.

  • This paper deals with a comparative study on coupling of Element-free Galerkin(EFG) method and Infinite Element(IE) by IE's shape function. In this study, mapped infinite elements(mapped IE) and decay function infinite elements(decay IE) are coupled with the EFG method. A coupling procedure of EFG-Mapped IE is much easier to be integrated than a coupled EFG-Decay IE. A coupled EFG-IE method used well-defined functions to preserve the continuity and linear consistency on the interface of the EFG region and IE region. Several benchmark problems are solved to verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the coupling algorithms by IE's shape function. The numerical results show that the developed algorithms work well for the elastic problems with infinite boundaries.

Conformation of Substance P in Neutral Phospholipid Micelles

  • A linear undecapeptide, Substance P (SP) is involved in a wide variety of physiological processes such as pain, inflammation, salivation, and hypertension. Tertiary structure of SP in dodecylphosphocholine (DPC) micelles has been investigated by CD, NMR spectroscopy, and DGII calculation. CD spectrum of SP in the presence of 7.5 mM DPC micelles does not show any favorable secondary structure. The tertiary structure determined by NMR spectroscopy and DGII calculation shows that the Phe7-Phr8-Gly9-Leu10 region adopts a turn structure, while the N-terminal region is quite flexible. Both prolines in SP exist preferentially as the trans isoforms and the aromatic ring of Phe7 protrudes outward. Conformation of SP may be restrained by the contact of the Phe7 aromatic ring with the hydrophobic side chains of the DPC micelles and this interaction induces a turn structure. Structure of SP in aqueous solution in the presence of DPC micelles can represent a good model to study the conformation recognized by the receptor near neutral membrane.

  • A CFD analysis has been performed to investigate turbulent heat transfer in a triangular rod bundle with a pitch-to-diameter ratio(P/D) of 1.06. Anisotropic turbulence models predicted the turbulence-driven secondary flow in the triangular subchannel and the distributions of time mean velocity and temperature showing significantly improved agreement with the measurements over the linear standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$. The anisotropic turbulence models predicted turbulence structure in large flow region fairly well but could not predict the very high turbulent intensity of azimuthal velocity observed in narrow flow region(gap).

  • In order to investigate the dielectric characteristic insulating oil is chosen insulating oil for electric cable, and experiment is performed in the temperature range of 30∼120[$^{\circ}C$] and frequency range of 30∼1${\times}$10$\^$6/[㎐]. As a result, the observed linear decrease in tan $\delta$ value at the low frequency range is due to the influence of frequency, whereas the increase in tan $\delta$ value at high frequency range is contributed by the electrode's resistance and dielectric loss. The dipole moment and activation energy of specimen are obtained 1.22(debye) and 12.75∼18.66[㎉/㏖e] of high temperature region, 15.68 ∼ 20.6[㎉/㏖e] of low temperature region respectively.

A numerical analysis of precipitation recharge in the region of monsoon climates using an infiltration model

  • Based on the transient finite difference solution of Richards' equation, an infiltration model is developed to analyze temporal variation of precipitation recharge in the region of monsoon climates. Simulation results obtained by using time series data of 20-year daily precipitation and pan evaporation indicate that a linear relationship between the annual precipitation and the annual recharge holds for the soils under the monsoon climates with varying degrees of the correlation coefficient depending on the soil types. A sensitivity analysis reveals that the water table depth has little effects on the recharge for the sandy soil, whereas, for the loamy and silty soils, rise of the water table at shallow depths causes increase of evaporation by approximately 100㎜/yr and a corresponding decrease in recharge. A series of simulations for two-layered soils illustrate that the amount of recharge is dominantly determined by the soil properties of the upper layer, although the temporal variation of recharge is affected by both layers.

A Design of New Surface Gradient Coil and Its Application to MR Computerized Tomography

  • A new three-channel surface gradient coil obtained by using numerical optimization and its application to MR computerized nomography are presented. The new surface gradient coil pro aided linear field gradient region more than twice wider compared with the t'irst surface gradi encl coil, removed torque and field offset, and reduced coupling between the surface gradient coil and combined surface rf coil. We realized the new surface gradient coil set with $30{\times}60{cm^2}$2 size, which generated more tharl 4G/cm with 100 amperes over a $4{\times}4{\times}4{cm^3}$ region with good linearity. The optimal geometries of the three-channel surface gradient coil and volun teer's high-resolution in wiuo spinal cord Images obtained by using the optimized surface gradi ent coil set are presented.

Prediction of free magnetic energy stored in a solar active region via a power-law relation between free magnetic energy and emerged magnetic flux

  • To estimate free magnetic energy stored in an active region is a key to the quantitative prediction of activity observed on the Sun. This energy is defined as an excess over the potential energy that is the lowest energy taken by a magnetic structure formed in the solar atmosphere including the solar corona. It is, however still difficult to derive the configuration of a coronal magnetic field only by observations, so we have to use some observable quantity to estimate free magnetic energy. Recently, by performing a coordinated series of three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic simulations of an emerging flux tube that transfers intense magnetic flux to the solar atmosphere we have found an universal power-law relation between free magnetic energy and emerged magnetic flux, the latter of which is a possibly observed quantity. We further investigate what causes this relation through a comparison with a model of linear force-free field.

  • The linear control of DC Link voltage in PWM inverter is very importent to estimate the goodness of PWM method. In motor control system, for the maximum torque on full region operating, the whole of DC Link voltage region must be used. 3 phase sinusoidal PWM inverter has a low efficienty at the using of output voltage. according to make better the efficiency, new improved PWM control method is proposed. The results of experimentation and simulation are included to verify the validity of this method.
