The segment of the piston type wave board has been expressed as a submerged vertical line segment in the two dimensional wave flume. Either end of vertical line segment representing wave board could be located in fluid domain from free surface to the bottom of the flume. Naturally the segment could be extended from the bottom to the free surface of the flume. It is assumed that the piston motion of the wave board could be defined by the sinusoidal oscillation in horizontal direction. Simplified analytic solution of the submerged segment of wave board has been derived through the first order perturbation method in water of finite depth. The analytic solution has been utilized in expressing the wave generated by the piston type wave board installed on the upper or lower half of the flume. The wave form derived by the analytic solution have been compared with the wave profile obtained through the CFD calculation for the either of the above cases. It is appeared that the wave length and the wave height are coincided each other between analytic solution and CFD calculation. However the wave form obtained by CFD calculations are more closer to real wave form than those from analytic calculation. It is appeared that the linear solutions could be not only superposed by segment but also integrated by finite elements without limitation. Finally it is proven that the wave generated by the oscillation of flap type wave board could be derived by integrating the wave generated by the sinusoidal motion of the finite segment of the piston type wave board.
This paper proposes an IEEE 802.15.4m compliant TV white-space orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (TVWS)-(OFDM) radio frequency (RF) transceiver that can be adopted in advanced metering infrastructures, universal remote controllers, smart factories, consumer electronics, and other areas. The proposed TVWS-OFDM RF transceiver consists of a receiver, a transmitter, a 25% duty-cycle local oscillator generator, and a delta-sigma fractional-N phase-locked loop. In the TV band from 470 MHz to 698 MHz, the highly linear RF transmitter protects the occupied TV signals, and the high-Q filtering RF receiver is tolerable to in-band interferers as strong as -20 dBm at a 3-MHz offset. The proposed TVWS-OFDM RF transceiver is fabricated using a $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS process, and consumes 47 mA in the Tx mode and 35 mA in the Rx mode. The fabricated chip shows a Tx average power of 0 dBm with an error-vector-magnitude of < 3%, and a sensitivity level of -103 dBm with a packet-error-rate of < 3%. Using the implemented TVWS-OFDM modules, a public demonstration of electricity metering was successfully carried out.
This paper deals with a waypoint trajectory following problem for the tilt-rotor UAV under development in Korea (TR-KUAV). In this problem, dynamic model inversion based on the linearized model and Sigma-Phi neural network with adaptive weight update are involved to realize the waypoint following algorithm for the vehicle in the helicopter flight mode (nacelle angle=0 deg). This algorithms consists of two main parts: outer-loop system as a command generator and inner-loop system as stabilizing controller. In this waypoint following problem, the position information in the inertial axis is given to the outer-loop system. From this information, Attitude Command/Attitude Hold logic in the longitudinal channel and Rate Command/Attitude Hold logic in the lateral channel are realized in the inner-loop part of the overall structure of the waypoint following algorithm. The nonlinear simulation based on the TR-KUAV is carried out to evaluate the stability and performance of the algorithm. From the numerical simulation results, the algorithm shows very good tracking performance of passing the waypoints given. Especially, it is observed that ACAH/RCAH logic in the inner-loop has the satisfactory performance due to adaptive neural network in spite of the model error coming from the linear model based inversion.

Seismic performance evaluation of existing building usually needs much time and man power, especially in case of nonlinear analysis. Many data interaction steps for model transfer are needed and engineers should spend much time with simple works like data entry. Those time-consuming steps could be reduced by applying computerized and automated modules. In this study, computational platform for seismic performance evaluation was made with several computerized modules. StrAuto and floor load transfer module offers a path that can transfer most linear model data to nonlinear analysis model so that engineers can avoid a lot of repetitive work for input information for the nonlinear analysis model. And the new nonlinear property generator also helps to get the nonlinear data easily by importing data from structural design program. To evaluate the effect of developed modules on each stages, seismic performance evaluation of example building was carried out and the lead time was used for the quantitative evaluation.

This paper presents a new type of energy generative ER suspension system which does not require external power sources. This is accomplished by converting vibration energy(kinetic energy) into electrical energy. In order to undertake this, an appropriate size of the ER damper is manufactured by incorporation a mechanism which changes the linear motion of the ER damper to the rotary motion. This rotary motion is amplified by gears and activates a generator to produce the electrical energy. The efficiency of energy generation is evaluated and the level of damping force with generated power is also investigated. Then, the ER suspension system is applied to the quarter car model, and its vibration isolation is experimentally evaluated with respect to the piston speed.

A mathematical model of slip-in booster separation dynamics is described. A longitudinal 3-DOF(degree of freedom) 2-body dynamic model is developed to simulate the separation dynamics. Aerodynamic models of the missile and the exposed area of booster are built. And, gas generator pushing the booster out and internal channel pressure drop are modelled. To simulate the model, it is assumed that the missile can maintain the 1g level-fight condition during the separation. With this assumption, the interaction forces between missile and booster through the separation phases: phase 0: initial, phase 1: linear translation, and phase 2: free flight motion are defined. Using the simulation, missile flight conditions for slip-in booster`s safe separation, which can be represented by Mach vs. height envelope, are suggested.

In this study, a latching control technology, proposed by Sheng et al.(2015), was applied in order to maximize the extraction efficiency of WEC (Wave Energy Converter), which is the heaving buoy coupled with linear electric generator. The latching control is the phase-control technique for improving the wave energy conversion with appropriate latching duration of keeping the buoy fixed. From the time-domain analysis in regular waves, the latching control technology can significantly improve the heave velocity and extracted power, even though the resonance condition is not satisfied. By using the latching control technology, the draft of buoy as well as the required PTO damping force can be significantly reduced along with increased extracted power, which is a big advantage in manufacturing the WEC.
A recent technology trends in synthetic aperture radar(SAR) requires the ultra high resolution performance in detecting and precisely identifying the targets. In this paper, as a technique for enhancing the radar range resolution, the wide band chirp connection algorithm is presented by stitching the several chirp modules with unit bandwidth based on the linear frequency modulated chirp signal waveform. The principles of the digital chirp signal generation and its architecture for implementation is described with the wide band chirp signal generator, modulator, and demodulator. The performance analysis for the presented algorithm is given with the simulation results.
This paper presents a new control approach for designing a coordinated controller for static VAR compensator system. A SVC constructed by a Fixed Capacitor and a Thyristor Controlled Reactor is designed and implemented to improve the damping of a synchronous generator, as well as controlling the system voltage. A design of linear quadratic controller based on optimal controller depends on choosing weighting matrices. A coordinated optimal controller is achieved by minimizing a quadratic performance index using dynamic programming techniques. The selection of weighting matrices is usually carried out by trial and error which is not a trivial problem. We proposed a efficient method using GA of finding weighting matrices for optimal control law. Thus, we prove the usefulness of proposed method to improve the stability of single machine-infinite bus with SVC system.
In the variable-speed wind energy system, to achieve maximum power point tracking (MPPT), the wind turbine should run close to its optimal angular speed according to the wind speed. Non-linear control methods that consider the dynamic behavior of wind speed are generally used to provide maximum power and improved efficiency. In this perspective, the mechanical power is estimated using Kalman filter. And then, from the estimated mechanical power, the wind speed is estimated with Newton-Raphson method to achieve maximum power without anemometer. However, the blade shape and air density get changed with time and the generator efficiency is also degraded. This results in incorrect estimation of wind speed and MPPT. It causes not only the power loss but also incorrect wind resource assessment of site. In this paper, the adaptive maximum power point tracking control algorithm for wind turbine system based on the estimation of wind speed is proposed. The proposed method applies correction factor to wind turbine system to have accurate wind speed estimation for exact MPPT. The proposed method is validated with numerical simulations and the results show an improved performance.
