  • This paper deals with the characteristics evaluations of PM magnetization using stator coil in a Post-Assembly Line Start Permanent Magnet Motor (LSPMM) using a coupled Finite Element Method (FEM) and Preisach modeling, which is presented to analyze the magnetic characteristics of permanent magnets. The focus of this paper is the characteristics analysis relative to magnetizing direction and quantity of permanent magnets due to the eddy current occurring in the rotor bar during magnetization of Nd-Fe-B.

  • This paper presents the analysis of the effects of non-uniform slots in a line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor. For purposes of the investigation, the simple formula of $2^{nd}$resistance for rotors having different slot areas is deduced. The characteristic analysis using the formula is performed and compared with measurement results.

  • This study investigates the characteristic analysis of Line-start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor considering skew effect. The effects of the skew on machine characteristic are analyzed by using direct co-simulation of Matlab Simulink and Flux2D. Validity of analysis method is confirmed by the analysis result of Non-skew Model.

  • This paper presents the performance investigation and design technology of a Line Start-up Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (LSPMSM) with super premium efficiency, including a design consideration and evaluation for motor start-up, key performance, and advanced finite element analysis FEA) for the design, improvement and verification, prototype build and test, design and test data comparison with a $Premium^{(R)}$ Efficient Induction Motor (PEIM). To assess the design technology, the LSPMSM prototype was built amended from a PEIM with the same frame, stator punching and rated output. Based on the prototype test, two novel design improvements and analyses have been done to eliminate noise and vibration. Additionally, the comparisons with the PEIM on the power factor, efficiency, frame size and active material consumption indicated that a significant performance improvement and active material cost reduction can be achieved by the LSPMSM.

  • This paper shows the characteristic analysis of single-phase LSPM(Line Start Permanent Magnet) synchronous motor considering overhang structure. To obtain the dynamic and steady performance of the motor, the D-Q equivalent circuit is used and the circuit parameters are extracted by 3D FEM. The performance of the model with overhang is compared with conventional model without overhang on the condition that both models have the same volume of the permanent magnet.

  • This paper deals with the cost reduction design of a single-phase line-start permanent magnet(LSPM) motor. Due to high cost of the permanent magnet(PM), cost reduction can be effectively achieved by reducing PM volume. Therefore, motor characteristics according to the PM volume are calculated by using d-q axis equivalent circuit analysis, and the characteristic map is made. In the characteristic map, maximum torque and efficiency are shown according to motor parameters such as back electromotive force(back emf) and inductances; back emf represents the PM volume. Minimum back emf and inductances satisfying output performance are determined in the characteristic map. Then, motor geometry based on the prototype motor is optimized to get the determined parameters using response surface methodology(RSM) and finite element method(FEM). Through the presented cost reduction design, total PM volume is reduced to 32% of prototype model.

  • There are two kinds of the synchronous motor, one is an induction type motor started without a driving system, the other is the one started with an external driving system. but, both are complicated. Nowadays, in order to devoid for the synchronous motor being complicated in design, line start permanent magnet(LSPM) motors are being developed. The LSPM motor is composed of the rotor that has interior permanent magnet and aluminum bar instead of general rotor. In this paper, we analyzed the characteristics of the LSPM motor which has both characteristics of an induction motor and a synchronous motor, and we compared the the LSPM motor characteristics with the induction motor.

  • The characteristic of line start permanent magnet(LSPM) motor with overhang structure is analyzed using 3dimensional finite element method(3D FEM). We propose the appropriate overhang length by considering the magnetic flux distribution according to changing overhang length and manufacturing process. 3D FEM analysis is inevitable because the increase of the total flux cannot be appropriately considered in 2D FEM. In equal model specification total flux is recalculated at 3D FEM, because of considering lamination length. This paper compares the characteristic of Back-emf with and without overhang by permanent magnet that has identical volume.

  • The single-phase line-start permanent magnet motor has been shown to be capable of very desirable steady state performance, but known to have undesirable starting performance. This is because magnetic braking torque. So, it is very important to predict starting performance accurately when designing the line-start motors. In this paper, starting performance was calculated by combination of d-q axis voltage equations and mechanical dynamic equations. D-q axis voltage components were derived by winding angle and turns ratio transformations.

  • This paper examines an design of double-barrier rotor structure for improving the efficiency performance in a single-phase line-start permanent magnet(LSPM) motor. By utilizing the advantages of double-barrier rotor design that by increasing reluctance torque generation to compensate magnet torque production, the copper loss reduction is achieved. The optimal approach of response surface methodogy(RSM) is performed for determining a optimum double-barrier rotor structure. The improving of efficiency performance is confirmed by finite element method(FEM) and test.
