In this study, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) was used to estimate the degree of rice polishing. As-threshed rice seeds were dehusked and polished for different times, and the resulting grains were analyzed using LIBS. Various atomic, ionic, and molecular emissions were identified in the LIBS spectra. Their correlation with the amount of polished-off matter was investigated. Na I and Rb I emission line intensities showed linear sensitivity in the widest range of polished-off-matter amount. Thus, univariate models based on those lines were developed to predict the weight percent of polished-off matter and showed 3-5 % accuracy performances. Partial least squares-regression (PLS-R) was also applied to develop a multivariate model using Si I, Mg I, Ca I, Na I, K I, and Rb I emission lines. It outperformed the univariate models in prediction accuracy (2 %). Our results suggest that LIBS can be a reliable tool for authenticating the degree of rice polishing, which is closed related to nutrition, shelf life, appearance, and commercial value of rice products.
An experimental study of the femtosecond laser machining of Si materials was carried out. Direct laser machining of the materials for the feature size of a few micron scale has the advantage of low cost and simple process comparing to the semiconductor process, E-beam lithography, ECM and other machining process. Further, the femtosecond laser is the better tool to machine the micro parts due to its characteristics of minimizing the heat affected zone(HAZ). As a result of line cutting of Si, the optimal condition had the region of the effective energy of 2mJ/mm-2.5mJ/mm with the power of 0.5mW-1.5mW. The polarization effects of the incident beam existed in the machining qualities, therefore the sample motion should be perpendicular to the projection of the electric vector. We also observed the periodic ripple patterns which come out in condition of the pulse overlap with the threshold energy. Finally, we could machined the groove with the linewidth of below $2{\mu}m$ for the application of MEMS device repairing, scribing and arbitrary patterning.
Recently, UV pulse laser is widely used in micro machining of the research, development and industry field of IT, NT and BT products because the laser short wavelength provides not only micro drilling, micro cutting and micro grooving which has a very fine line width, but also high absorption coefficient which allows a lot of type of materials to be machined more easily. To analyze the dynamic deformation during a very short processing time, which is nearly about several tens nanoseconds, the commercial Finite Element Analysis (FEA) code, LS-DYNA 3D, was employed for the computitional simulation of the UV laser micro machining behavior for thin copper material in this paper. A finite element model considering high strain rate effect is especially suggested to investigate the micro phenomena which are only dominated by mechanically pressure impact in disregard of thermally heat transfer. From these computational results, some of dynamic deformation behaviors such as dent deformation shapes, strains and stresses distributions were observed and compared with previous experimental works. These will help us to understand micro interaction between UV laser beam and material.

Stereolithography (SLA) is a technique using a laser beam to cure a photopolymer liquid resin with three-dimensional computer-aided design (CAD) data, The accuracy of the prototype, the build time, and the cured properties of the resins are controlled by the SLA process parameters such as the size of the laser beam, scan velocity, hatch spacing, and layer thickness, In particular, the size of the laser beam is the most important parameter in SLA, This study investigated the curing properties of photopolymers as a function of the laser beam size, The cure width and depth were measured either on a single cure line or at a single cure layer for various hatch spacings and laser beam sizes, The cure depth ranged from 0.23 to 0.34 mm and was directly proportional to the beam radius, whereas the cure width ranged from 0.42 to 1.07 mm and was inversely proportional to the beam radius, The resulting surface roughness ranged from 1.12 to $2.23{\mu}m$ for a ratio of hatch spacing to beam radius in the range 0.5-2.0 at a beam radius of 0.17 mm and a scan velocity of 125 mm/sec.

In the multi-pass welding of pressure vessels or ships, the mechanical touch sensor system is generally used together with a manipulator to measure the gap and depth of the narrow gap to perform seam tracking. Unfortunately, such mechanical touch sensors may commit measuring errors caused by the eterioration of the measuring device. An automation system of narrow gap multi-pass welding using a laser vision system which can track the seam line of narrow gap and which can control welding power has been developed. The joint profile of the narrow gap, with 250mm depth and 28mm width, can be captured by laser vision camera. The image is then processed for defining tracking positions of the torch during welding. Then, the real-time correction of lateral and vertical position of the torch can be done by the laser vision system. The adaptive control of welding conditions like welding Currents and welding speeds, can also be performed by the laser vision system, which cannot be done by conventional mechanical touch systems. The developed automation system will be adopted to reduce the idle time of welders, which happens frequently in conventional long welding processes, and to improve the reliability of the weld quality as well.
It has been conducted by laser vision sensor for weldability estimation of front-bead after doing high speed butt laser welding of any condition. It has been developed a real time GUI(Graphic User Interface) system for weldability application in the basis of texts and field qualify levels. In the reference of bead imperfections, defects absolute position and defects intensity index of front-bead in the basis of formability reference, it has been produced a weldability estimation and defects intensity index of back-bead by back propagation neural network. In the result of by comparing measuring data by laser vision sensor of back-bead and data by back propagation neural network of one, it has been shown the similar results. Finally, under knowledge of welding condition in production line, it has been conducted a weldability estimation of back-bead only in knowledge of informations of front-bead data without using laser vision sensor or welding inspection experts and furthermore it can be used data for final inspection results of back-bead.
One most feasible way to measure the concentration field in the micro-channel is using micro-LIF(Laser Induced Fluorescence) method. However, an accurate concentration field at a given cross plane in a micro-channel has not been successfully achieved so far due to various limitations in the light illumination and fluorescence signal detection. The present study demonstrates a novel method to provide an ultra thin laser sheet beam having five(5) microns thickness by use of a micro focus laser line generator. The laser sheet beam illuminates an exact plane of concentration measurement field to increase the signal to noise ratio and considerably reduce the depth uncertainty. Nile Blue A was used as fluorescent dye for the present LIF measurement. The enhancement of the fluorescent intensity signals was performed by a solvent mixture of water $(95\%)$ and ethanol (EtOH)/methanol (MeOH) $(5\%)$ mixture. To reduce the rms errors resulted from the CCD electronic noise and other sources, an expansion of grid size was attempted from $1\times1$ to 3(3 or 5(5 pixel data windows and the pertinent signal-to-noise level has been noticeably increased accordingly.
We report a passive Q-switching of an all-fiber erbium-doped fiber laser delivering high pulse energy by using a high quality single-walled carbon nanotube saturable absorber (SWCNT-SA). A side-polished fiber coated with the SWCNT is employed as an in-line SA for evanescent wave interaction between the incident light and the SWCNT. This lateral interaction scheme enables a stable Q-switched fiber laser that generates high pulse energy. The central wavelength of the Q-switched pulse laser was measured as 1560 nm. A repetition rate frequency of the Q-switched laser is controlled from 78 kHz to 190 kHz by adjusting the applied pump power from 124 mW to 790 mW. The variation of pulse energy from 51 nJ to 270 nJ is also observed as increasing the pump power. The pulse energy of 270 nJ achieved at maximum pump power is 3 times larger than those reported in Q-switched all-fiber lasers using a SWCNT-SA. The tunable behaviors in pulse duration, pulse repetition rate, and pulse energy as a function of pump power are reported, and are well matched with theoretical expectation.
This study aims to estimate the species, size and shape of fish using a non-contact 3 dimensional pattern laser so that this preliminary test was carried out to understand the structural feature and length of goldfish according to water turbidity and depth in the aquacultural tank. 3-D pattern laser could clearly detect its morphological shape except the caudal fin due to soft tissue. Since the sensing strength of line laser light according to depth has sufficient power, it is possible to measure its depth and structural feature in the detected range. The result showed that the measured error of individual's fork length was less than ${\pm}1%$ in the water using 3-D pattern laser, when compared with the measured value in the air.
