Sensorless Vector Control of a Wound Induction Motor Using MRAS with On-Line Stator Resistance Tuning

  • The wound induction motor can provide high starting torque and reduced starting current simultaneously by inserting large scale resistor. And this technique is one of the well known methods among the induction motor starting methods and generally used for heavy load starting such as Crain and Cement factories. The conventional PI controller has been widely used in industrial application due to the simple control algorithm and in general, PI controller is used for control of current, torque, position, and speed for the wound induction motor drive system. However, the system may result in poor performance since sensors have to be used, which in turn is limited by the environmental condition. Recently, to overcome these problems, many sensorless vector control methods for the wound induction motor have been studied. This paper presents MRAS method with on-line stator resistance tuning for sensorless vector control of the wound induction motor drive. In conventional MRAS method, in low frequency, stator resistance variation can result in poor performance. Therefore, to overcome several shortages of the conventional MRAS caused by parameter variation and enhance robustness of the sensor less vector control, this paper investigates a MRAS method with on-line stator resistance tuning for sensorless vector control of the wound induction motor. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through digital simulation.

Case Study on Integrated In-line Oil Monitoring Sensor for Machine Condition Monitoring of Steel Making Industry (통합형 인-라인 오일 모니터링 센서의 제철설비 현장 적용사례)

  • One of the important trends for condition monitoring in the 21st century is the development of smart sensors that will permit the cost-effective continuous monitoring of key machine equipments. In this study, an integrated in-line oil monitoring sensor assigned for continuous in situ monitoring multiple parameters of oil performance is presented. The sensor estimates oil deterioration based on the information about chemical degradation, total contamination, water content of oil and oil temperature. The oil oxidation is estimated by "chromatic ratio", total contamination is measured by the changes in optical density of oil in three optical wave-bands ('Red', 'Green' and 'Blue') and water content is evaluated as relative saturation of oil by water. In order to evaluate the sensor's effectiveness, the sensor was applied to several used oil samples in steel making industry and the results were compared with those measured by standard test methods.

The Change of Coastline through High Pass Filter using ASTER Images (ASTER영상을 이용한 고주파 필터에 의한 해안선 변화 분석)

  • This study is about the change of coastline through using ASTER images. ASTER image is a sensor loaded in earth resources satellite shoot in Japan on Dec. 1999. It has 15m, 30m, 90m coastline, three sensors of VNIR, TIR and WIR, therefore it's possible to obtain more information on the Earth than the existing satellite images cause it contains various a wavelength range in spite of relatively economic image. The coastline is changed according to topography shape because it's strongly localized. Besides, it's one of the most important factors in MGIS(Marine Geographic Information System). Therefore, this study is accomplished by analysing variation after abstraction the coastline automatically by Vector Line from ASTER satellite images. The study result will be used as an important basic data when analysis the change of e coastline hereafter.

  • Despite the automatic fire alarm system, according to the national fire data system of national emergency management agency, the fires account for 40,932 incidents, 2,184 injuries and about 430 billion won in property losses in 2013. Since the conventional automatic fire alarm system has several weaknesses related to electrical signal such as noise, surge, lighting, etc. Most fires are mainly caused by electrical faults, mechanical problem, chemical, carelessness and natural. The electrical faults such as line to ground fault, line to line fault, electrical leakage and arc are one of the major problems in fire. This paper describes the development of a novel real-time fire monitoring system algorithm including fault detection function which puts the existing optic smoke and heat detectors for fire detection with current and voltage sensors in order to utility fault monitoring using high accuracy DAQ measurement system with LabVIEW program. The fire detection and electrical fault monitoring with a proposed a new detection algorithm are implemented under several test. The fire detection and monitoring system operates according to the proposed algorithm well.

  • This paper deals with the development of on-line fault and lightning stroke section locating system for branched overhead transmission line. The section locating algorithm of this system i3 by analyzing the distribution pattern of current flowing through the overhead ground wire. It composes of three parts; current sensors, local remote terminal unit(RTU) and analysis program at surveillance tenter. Double Rogowski coil sensor having integrating amplifier was designed as current sensor. In order for current pattern analysis, the transmitted waves from each sensor wert synchronized by GPS tim c clock in RTU. While, lightning stroke location are judged only by polarity information of lightning currents. This design has a benefit in simplicity of signal processing unit of RTU.

Influence line- model correction approach for the assessment of engineering structures using novel monitoring techniques

  • In bridge engineering, maintenance strategies and thus budgetary demands are highly influenced by construction type and quality of design. Nowadays bridge owners and planners tend to include life-cycle cost analyses in their decision processes regarding the overall design trying to optimize structural reliability and durability within financial constraints. Smart permanent and short term monitoring can reduce the associated risk of new design concepts by observing the performance of structural components during prescribed time periods. The objectives of this paper are the discussion and analysis of influence line or influence field approaches in terms of (a) an efficient incorporation of monitoring information in the structural performance assessment, (b) an efficient characterization of performance indicators for the assessment of structures, (c) the ability of optimizing the positions of sensors of a monitoring system, and (d) the ability of checking the robustness of the monitoring systems applied to a structure. The proposed influence line- model correction approach has been applied to an integrative monitoring system that has been installed for the performance assessment of an existing three-span jointless bridge.

  • Materials used at microwave are usually used as a dielectric with a manufacturing purpose of printed circuit boards, etc. Complex permittivity of them can be measured from attenuation constant or propagation constant of a transmission line using a microstrip line with bulk type. But as the technique recently which can manufacture to have complex permittivity and permeability demanded using nonferrous metals for powder-type grows up, we need sensors and methods which can measure characteristics of powder-type materials. So far measuring methods of permittivity and permeability with waveguide or coaxial cable are used but they have faults which have a complex measurement method and are difficult to simultaneously measure permittivity and permeability. In this paper, a simultaneous measuring method of permittivity and permeability with 2-port coaxial cable and a new proposed calculation. The proposed 2-port coaxial cable is designed to be easy to insert materials and to have a wideband. We measure permittivity and permeability of magnetic powder(Ni-Fe-Mo, Ni-Fe) which reveal its characteristic at $0.3{\sim}1.3GHz$ to identify the proposed sensor.

Moving Target Position Detecting System using Dual Line CCD and Photometric Interpolation

  • A realization for an accurate position detecting system of a moving target in two dimensional plane using dual line CCDs and photometric interpolation is presented. The system is realized that the infrared LEDs are utilized for lighting source, a target size is recognized by the scanned data from CCD owing to blocking the radiated light path by placing the target between CCD and lighting source, a coordinate on the plane is found by plane trigonometry formed by the moving target and two CCD sensors, and the former scan data is used for the coordinate iteratively and the photometric interpolation is applied to sub-pixel of scanned image. The experimental results show that the experiment results in a success rate about 3 different size targets, 3, 5 and 7mmm on the test plane $210{\times}373mm$. The moving target positioning detected success rate is 93% in 3mm target, 5mm is 95.3%, and 7mm is 95.8% respectively. The photometric interpolation is enhanced to 1.5% in comparison to be unused.

  • In this paper, we propose a guidance filter to estimate line of sight rate with strapdown seeker measurements and INS(Inertial Navigation System) information. The measurements of proposed guidance filter consisted of the LOS(Line of Sight) and relative position that can be calculated with the seeker's measurements, INS information and known target position, also the filter is based on an asynchronous filter to use outputs of the two sensors that are out of synchronous and period. Through the proposed filter, we can reduce the effect on parasitic loop that can be caused by using large time delay seeker and improve the estimation performance.

A Real-time and Off-line Localization Algorithm for an Inpipe Robot by Detecting Elbows (엘보 인식에 의한 배관로봇의 실시간 위치 추정 및 후처리 위치 측정 알고리즘)

  • Robots used for pipe inspection have been studied for a long time and many mobile mechanisms have been proposed to achieve inspection tasks within pipelines. Localization is an important factor for an inpipe robot to perform successful autonomous operation. However, sensors such as GPS and beacons cannot be used because of the unique characteristics of inpipe conditions. In this paper, an inpipe localization algorithm based on elbow detection is presented. By processing the projected marker images of laser pointers and the attitude and heading data from an IMU, the odometer module of the robot determines whether the robot is within a straight pipe or an elbow and minimizes the integration error in the orientation. In addition, an off-line positioning algorithm has been performed with forward and backward estimation and Procrustes analysis. The experimental environment has consisted of several straight pipes and elbows, and a map of the pipeline has been constructed as the result.
