  • In this paper, we studied the radiated electric field of power-line with DMT signal source in the frequency range of $1.7{\sim}30 MHz$. First, we made the midium voltage power-line communication model for PLC and calculated the current through the power-line using the impedance of the power-line model. Second, we calculated the radiated electric field in power range $-50{\sim}-30 dBm$ using the calculated current. Consequently, the calculated emissive electromagnetic field from the DMT signal is similar to the measured result. So this study is applicable to the standard regulation of electromagnetic interference for PLC.

  • Because of Korean power system characteristics and increasing power demand, the need of 765kV transmission line is growing gradually. Now a days, KEPCO's 765kV transmission line has been tested and stands for commercial operation. During the first stage, 765kV transmission line will be operated with two voltage grades of 765kV and 345kV, which results the unbalance of power system. So unbalanced current such as zero sequence current flows in the transmission line. In this paper, we describes the simulation study of 765/345kV parallel transmission line by using EMTDC program.

  • Line constants are composed by impedances and susceptances. A paper which was published estimated only impedances of line constants. Therefore, this paper estimates susceptances as well as impedances of equivalent five-conductors model using the reduced equivalent method. In order to verify estimated line constants, we measured line constants of real railway system. And we compared calculated results with measured data on 60Hz∼3000Hz. For the other verification, the calculation results from the proposed model and the measurement data from the test are compared focused on the amplification of harmonic current in the paper.

  • Power grids are large complicated networks in use around. An absolute phase value for a particular unknown-phase line at a local site should be identified for the operation and management of a 3-phase distribution network. The phase shift for a specific point in the line, as compared with a phase reference point at a substation, must be within a range of ${\pm}60^{\circ}$ for correct identification. However, the phase shift at a particular point can fluctuate depending on the line constants, transformer wiring method, line length, and line amperage, etc. Conducted in this study is a theoretical formulation for the determination of phase at a specific point in the line, Simulink modeling, and analysis for a distribution network. In particular, through evaluating the effects of unbalanced current loads, the limitations of the present phase identification methods are described.

  • The electricity distribution system in Korea is adopting a multi-grounding system. Protection of this distribution system against lightning is performed by installing overhead ground wires over the high voltage wires, and connecting the overhead ground wires to the ground every 200 m. The ground resistance in this system is limited not to exceed $50\Omega$ and overhead ground wire and neutral wire are multiple parallel lines. Although overhead ground wire and neutral wire are installed in different locations on the same pole, this circuit configuration has duplicated functions of providing a return path for unbalanced currents and protecting the distribution system against induced lightning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the induced lightning shielding effect according to the neutral wire installation structure of a 22.9kV distribution line in order to present a new 22.9kV distribution line structure model and characteristics. This study calculated induced lightning voltage by performing numerical analysis when an overhead ground wire is present in the multi-grounding type 22.9kV distribution line structure, and calculated the induced lightning shielding effect based on this calculated induced lightning voltage. In addition, this study proposed and analyzed an improved distribution line model allowing the use of both overhead wire and neutral wire to be installed in the current distribution lines. The result of MATLAB simulation using the conditions applied by Yokoyama showed almost no difference between the induced lightning voltage developed in the current line and that developed in the proposed line. This signifies that shielding the induced lightning voltage through overhead wire makes no difference between current and proposed distribution line structures. That is, this study found that the ground resistance of the overhead wire had an effect on the induced lightning voltage, and that the induced lightning shielding effect of overhead wire is small.

  • Recently, multilevel H-bridge inverters have become more popular in medium to high power ac drive applications. One of significant advantages of them is low harmonic contents in their input line currents thanks to the transformer with multiple phase-shifted secondary windings. This paper attempts to provide basic guidelines for the design of the phase shifting transformer windings and theoretical analysis of input line current harmonics.

  • Printed circuit board (PCB) assembly line configuration is characterized by very long set-up times and high work in process (WIP) inventory level. The scheduling method can significantly reduce the set-up times and WIP inventory level. Greedy sequence dependent scheduling (GSDS) method is proposed based on the current methods. The proposed method is compared with the current method in terms of three performance measures: line throughput, average WIP inventory level, and implementation complexity.

  • Unsymmetrical faults are classified into single line-to-ground faults, line-to-line faults, or double line-to-ground faults in receiving and distribution power systems. Many of overhead distribution-line faults are single line-to-ground faults, and lightning surge arresters are stressed by system frequency overvoltages due to unsymmetrical faults. In this work, the unsymmetrical faults in receiving and distribution systems were experimentally simulated, and the characteristics of total leakage current flowing through lightning surge arresters due to various unsymmetrical faults were investigated. As a result, a little variations of the leakage current flowing through Zinc oxide (ZnO) surge arresters in the range of $\pm$10[%] voltage regulations were observed. It could be concluded that the unsymmetrical faults have no effect on the long-term life performance of ZnO surge arresters in effective grounding systems. On the other hand, the magnitude of the leakage current flowing through ZnO surge arrester elements under single line-to-ground faults was more than 140 times as compared with that under normal operating voltages in ineffective grounding systems. But abnormal voltages caused by line-to-line faults and double line-to-ground faults have a little effect on total leakage current of ZnO surge arrester elements.

  • This paper presents a new PFC control method which replaces a fast line current measurement with a filtered load current measurement. Using the power balance relation between the input and the output of the boost converter. the input current can be described as the function of load current. Thus the PWM signal which effects the switching control of the boost converter is generated using the PFC input voltage, the PFC output voltage and the load current as input variables. By using a filter between the bridge rectifier and a dc-to-dc converter, the input voltage of the dc-to-dc converter is forced to always maintain above zero volt. Then the input current traces a sinewave in phase. The proposed scheme accomplishes a very high power factor and a low harmonic distortion of the line current. The validity of this scheme is demonstrated through simulation.

  • This paper presents a method to reduce commutation torque ripples occurred during commutation in brushless do motor drives using a single DC-link current sensor. In brushless dc motor drives with a single dc current sensor instead of 3-phase line current sensors, it is noted that dc-link current sensor cannot give any information corresponding to the motor currents during line current commutation intervals. A new technique to resolve such a problem is dealt with based on a deadbeat current control in which motor armature voltage command is computed from a dc-link current reference, an actual current and counter emf voltage. The simulation results show that the proposed method reduces the torque ripple significantly.
