  • Recently, many techniques have been proposed to improve the noise robustness for speaker verification. In this paper, we consider the feature recombination technique in multi-band approach. In the conventional feature recombination for speaker verification, to compute the likelihoods of speaker models or universal background model, whole feature components are used. This computation method is not effective in a view point of multi-band approach. To deal with non-effectiveness of the conventional feature recombination technique, we introduce a subband likelihood computation, and propose a modified feature recombination using subband likelihoods. In decision step of speaker verification system in noise environments, a few very low likelihood scores of a speaker model or universal background model cause speaker verification system to make wrong decision. To overcome this problem, a reliable feature selection method is proposed. The low likelihood scores of unreliable feature are substituted by likelihood scores of the adaptive noise model. In here, this adaptive noise model is estimated by maximum a posteriori adaptation technique using noise features directly obtained from noisy test speech. The proposed method using subband-based reliable feature selection obtains better performance than conventional feature recombination system. The error reduction rate is more than 31 % compared with the feature recombination-based speaker verification system.

  • Since the end of the 1950-1953 Korean War, many scholars and policymakers have expressed concern about the possibility of another conflict on the peninsula. In certain respects, the post-1953 North-South Korea relationship resembles the Cold War that existed between the United States and the Soviet Union, 1945-1990. Although a "hot" never occurred, peace was never guaranteed. By looking at international theories (i.e., realism and liberal theory) and by utilizing casual-loop diagram analysis, the main purpose of this research is to explore on the likelihood of peace and war on the Korean peninsula. First, several factors (e.g., economic stagnation of North Korea, unstable political systems, and so on) emphasized by realism perspectives are significantly related to the likelihood of conflict between North and South Korea. Conversely, several determinants (e.g., economic assistance to North Korea, inter-dialogue between two Koreas, cultural and social exchange, and so on) emphasized by liberal approaches are significantly related to likelihood of peace on the Korean peninsula. Given the two different interpretations about the likelihood of conflict or peace, it can be argued that a second military action might occur on the Korean peninsula if realism theories are true. However, if practical factors exist on the Korean peninsula, the two Korean can optimistically expect a peaceful reunification in the future, without interference from other countries.

  • In this work, we proposed a low-complexity hybrid layered tabu-likelihood ascent search (LTLAS) algorithm for large multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. The conventional layered tabu search (LTS) approach involves many partial reactive tabu searches (RTSs), and each RTS requires an initialization and searching phase. In the proposed algorithm, we restricted the upper limit of the number of RTS operations. Once RTS operations exceed the limit, RTS will be replaced by low-complexity likelihood ascent search (LAS) operations. The block-based detection approach is considered to maintain a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) detection performance. An efficient precomputation technique is derived, which can suppress redundant computations. The simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) performance of the proposed detection method is close to the conventional LTS method. The complexity analysis shows that the proposed method has significantly lower computational complexity than conventional methods. Also, the proposed method can reduce almost 50% of real operations to achieve a BER of 10-3.

  • Many studies have estimated a mixture of binomial distributions. This paper considers an extension, a mixture of shifted binomial distributions, and the estimation of the distribution. The range of each component binomial distribution is rst evaluated and then for each possible value of shifted parameters, the EM algorithm is employed to estimate those parameters. From a set of possible value of shifted parameters and corresponding estimated parameters of the distribution, the likelihood of given data is determined. The simulation results verify the performance of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we derive the approximate maximum likelihood estimators(AMLEs) and maximum likelihood estimator of the scale parameter in a triangular distribution based on progressive Type-II censored samples. We compare the proposed estimators in the sense of the mean squared error through Monte Carlo simulation for various progressive censoring schemes.

  • When the available sample is multiply type-II censored, the maximum likelihood estimators of the location and scale parameters of two- parameter exponential distribution do not exist explicitly. In this case, we propose several approximate maximum likelihood estimators by approximating the likelihood equations appropriately. We present an example to illustrate these estimation methods.

  • If a restriction is imposed only to a (proper) subset of parameters of interest, we call it a local restriction. Statistical inference under a local restriction in multinomial setting is studied. The maximum likelihood estimation under a local restriction and likelihood ratio tests for and against a local restriction are discussed. A real data is analyzed for illustrative purpose.

  • In this paper, we develop a nonparametric Bayesian methodology of estimating an unknown distribution function F at the given survival time with current status data under the assumption of Dirichlet process prior on F. We compare our algorithm with the nonparametric maximum likelihood estimator through application to simulated data and real data.

  • This paper consider penalized likelihood regression with data from exponential family. The fast computation method applied to Gaussian data(Kim and Gu, 2004) is extended to non Gaussian data through asymptotically efficient low dimensional approximations and corresponding algorithm is proposed. Also smoothing parameter selection is explored for various exponential families, which extends the existing cross validation method of Xiang and Wahba evaluated only with Bernoulli data.
