In these days, properties of concrete has been demanded to be high performance because concrete structure was bigger and higher. So studies on high strength concrete and lightweight concrete has been frequently done. But lightweight concrete has been used to limited non-structural elements in th country. Lightweight aggregate mixed with lightweight concrete was only coarse aggregate in case of the structural lightweight concrete. In the country studies on the lightweight concrete was poor and unvaried. Also it is difficult to be practical use of lightweight concrete was that it has been expensive. It was study on the using fine lightweight aggregate with lightweight concrete to crushed by-products and wastes to get to make foamed glass with recycled glass. So it was tested by fine aggregate standard and mixed with.
Bottom ash generated in thermoelectric power plants could be used as substitutional fine aggregate such as pearlite of fireproof mortar due to its lightweight and porosity. Development of substitutional materials is necessary because pearlite has several problems such as production of carbon dioxide during manufacturing process and high price. This study is to confirm the possibility of air cooling process bottom ash for fireproof mortar as substitutional material of pearlite through basic experiment.
This study evaluates engineering properties of mortar using lightweight fine aggregate made by bottom ash discharged air cooling process according to grading. Then we confirm possibility of use as lightweight fine aggregate. Consequently, Mix using bottom ash need additional examination for a change with the passage of time of flow. Also, mix of S indicates similar compressive strength with mix of Plain and 16% decrease of unit weight compared to mix of Plain; while mix of B indicates 10% decrease of compressive strength and 16% decrease of unit weight. Therefore, this study shows that mix of S and B is superior compared with other mix.
For the manufacturing lightweight fine aggregate, clay and waste material was formed by pelletizer. The fine aggregate of 1-5 mm diameter was formed by diameter 76 cm pelletizer disc. Pelletization variables were : (1) pelletizer disc angle, (2) speed of revolution of pelletizer, (3) added pelletization time. Green and sintered aggregate were measured specific gravity, absorption rate and average size. The optimum condition were found that the pelletization variables were angle at $70^{\circ}$, speed of revolution of pelletizer at 23.2 rpm, and water/solid ratio at 1/5. At these conditions, it was formed that fine aggregate green whose average size was $2.0{\sim}3.35mm$. Specific gravity and average size are increased with low angle of disc and fast revolution speed of disc. Specific gravity and average size were not distinctly influenced by added pelletization time. Sintered aggregate was distinctly influenced by properties of green.
This study was performed to develop the lightweight concrete using synthetic lightweight aggregate and natural coarse aggregate. Mixing ratios were three types, the first type was mixed cement and synthetic lightweight fine aggregate (Type CP), the second type was mixed cement, synthetic lightweight fine aggregate and synthetic lightweight coarse aggregate (Type CPE), the third type was mixed cement, synthetic lightweight fine aggregate and natural coarse aggregate (Type CPN). The results of this study are summarized as follows ; 1. The W/C of each mixing ratio was increased with increase of the amount of cement used, and it was shown higher in order of Type CP, CPN, CPE. 2. The unit weight of Type CP, CPE and CPN was 1.473~1.647g/cm$^3$, 1.467~1.622g/cm$^3$ and 1.658~1 .838g/cm$^3$, respectively. And the absorption ratio was approximately 20%, which was higher than that of the normal cement concrete. 3. The compressive strength of Type CP was shown 178 ~249kg/cm2, Type CPE was shown 149~241kg/cm$^2$ and Type CPN was shown 196~297kg/cm$^2$, respectively. Each strength ratio was smaller than that of the normal cement concrete. 4. The pulse velocity of Type CP, CPE and CPN was 2, 688~3, 240m/sec, 2, 981~3, 324m/sec and 2, 989 ~ 3, 545m/sec, respectively. And it was increased with increase of strength and unit weight. 5. The length change ratio at 28 days was in the range of 0.057~0.077%, and earlier length change ratio was higher than that of the later.
This study uses recycled green building materials based on a Taiwan-made recycled mineral admixture (including fly ash, slag, glass sand and rubber powder) as replacements for fine aggregates in concrete and tests the properties of the resulting mixtures. Fine aggregate contents of 5% and 10% were replaced by waste LCD glass sand and waste tire rubber powder, respectively. According to ACI concrete-mixture design, the above materials were mixed into lightweight aggregate concrete at a constant water-to-binder ratio (W/B = 0.4). Hardening (mechanical), non-destructive and durability tests were then performed at curing ages of 7, 28, 56 and 91 days and the engineering properties were studied. The results of these experiments showed that, although they vary with the type of recycling green building material added, the slumps of these admixtures meet design requirements. Lightweight aggregate yields better hardened properties than normal-weight concrete, indicating that green building materials can be successfully applied in lightweight aggregate concrete, enabling an increase in the use of green building materials, the improved utilization of waste resources, and environmental protection. In addition to representing an important part of a "sustainable cycle of development", green building materials represent a beneficial reutilization of waste resources.
This study analyzed the fluidity and strength properties of mortar containing high volume blast furnace slag by replacement ratio of lightweight fine aggregate for reducing the unit weight of concrete structures.
