  • The present paper describes the results of high speed photography, acoustic emission (AE) detection and plasma light emission (LE) measurement during $CO_2$ laser welding of 304 stainless steel in different processing conditions. Video images with high spatial and temporal resolution allowed to observe the melt dynamics and keyhole evolution. The existence of keyhole was confirmed by the slag motion on the weld pool. The characteristic frequencies of flow instability and keyhole fluctuations at different welding speed were measured and compared with the results of Fourier analyses of temporal AE and LE spectra. The experimental results were compared with the newly developed numerical model of keyhole dynamics. The model is based on the assumption that the propagation of front part of keyhole into material is due to the melt ejection driven by laser induced surface evaporation. The calculations predict that a high speed melt flow is induced at the front part of keyhole when the sample travel speed exceeds several 10 mm/s. The numerical analysis also shows the hump formation on the front keyhole wall surface. Experimentally observed melt behavior and transformation of the AE and LE spectra with variation of welding speed are qualitatively in good agreement with the model predictions.

  • The light guide plate has become the major component for the backlight module in general information technology products (e.g. mobile phones, monitors, etc.). High speed injection molding has been adopted for thin walled LGP giving advantages such as weight, shape, size, and reduction in production costs. In the current study, the rheological characteristics of high liquidity plastic resin PC(HL8000) were measured using a capillary rheometer to improve the reliability of the numerical analysis for high speed injection molding. With the measured viscosity and PVT of PC(HL8000), numerical analysis of injection molding was conducted using the simulation software(Moldflow). Filling time and deflection were predicted and compared with those of traditional PC resins(H3000, H4000). The results show that PC(HL8000) has significantly different rheological characteristics during high speed injection molding. Hence proper properties of the resin should be used to improve the accuracy of numerical predictions.

  • This study analyzed the flame characteristics when igniting 200 ml of flammable liquids containing equal parts gasoline and another flammable liquid. These mixtures were used to fill a divided space in a simulation. The length of one side of the divided space was 2,000 mm, and the length of the combustion device was 1,000 mm. The mixture with alcohol had the highest flame propagation speed (0.7 s), while the mixture with light oil showed the lowest (1.2 s). The gasoline and acetone mixture reached peak flame in 25.5 s, at the highest speed, while the mixture with light oil reached peak flame in 163.7 s at the lowest speed. The gasoline and light oil showed the longest continuous combustion time (332.7 s), while the gasoline and paint thinner showed the shortest (121.5 s). A fire inspector who is examining the scene of a fire needs to analyze both the statements of the first eyewitness and the flame characteristics collectively.

  • Background and Objectives : High-speed imaging can be useful in studies of linguistic and artistic singing styles, and laryngeal examination of patients with voice disorders, particularly in irregular vocal fold vibrations. In this study, we introduce new laryngeal imaging systems which are commercially available high speed cameras connected with a laryngoscope. Materials and Method : The laryngeal images were captured from three different types of cameras. First, the adapter was made to connect with laryngoscope and Casio EX-F1 to capture the images using $2{\times}150$ Watt Halogen light source (EndoSTROB) at speeds of 1,200 tps (frame per second)($336{\times}96$). Second, Phantom Miro ex4 was used to capture the digital laryngeal images using Xenon Nova light source 175 Watt (STORZ) at speeds of 1,920 fps ($512{\times}384$). Finally, laryngeal images were captured using MotionXtra N-4 with 250 Watt halogen lamp (Olympus CLH-250) light source at speeds of 2,000tps ($384{\times}400$) by connecting with laryngoscope. All images were transformed into the Kymograph using KIPS (Kay's image processing Software) of Kay Pentex Inc. Results: Casio EX-F1 was too small to adjust the focus and screen size was diminished once the images were captured despite of high resolution images. High quality of color images could be obtained with Phantom Miro ex4 whereas good black and white images from Motion Xtra N-4 Despite of some limitations of illumination problems, limited recording time capacity, and time consuming procedures in Phantom Miro ex4 and Motion Xtra N-4, those portable devices provided high resolution images. Conclusion : All those high speed cameras could capture the laryngeal images by connecting with laryngoscope. High resolution images were able to be captured at the fixed position under the good lightness. Accordingly, these techniques could be applicable to observe the vocal fold vibration properties in the clinical practice.

  • Objective: This study aimed to identify the different wind speed categories and competitive level among windsurfers through GPS variables to provide the useful information on the development of training programs for enhancing windsurfers' performance. Method: Data from 69 female athletes who participated in 27 races during the 2018-2019 windsurfing season were used for the analysis. Average board speed, total race time, total distance, upwind race time, downwind race time, beam reach race time were collected through GPS. Unconfirmed data were excluded along with penalty point data. The wind conditions were classified as light, light to medium, medium, medium to heavy, and heavy wind, the competitive levels were classified as level 1, level 2, and level 3. Results: As for the average board speed, the level 1 or level 2 group showed higher board speed than the level 3 group in all wind conditions except for the light wind. The total race time and upwind race time showed less time in level 1 or level 2 group than level 3 group in all wind conditions. The total distance, downwind race time and beam reach race time showed less distance and time in level1 group than level 3 group under sufficient wind conditions. Conclusion: Our results show that the aerobic capacity to sustain pumping during upwind course in wind conditions below 15 kts effects performance. In wind conditions of 15 kts or more, indicated that the board control for the fast board speed and small distance required during up, down, beam reach courses had an effect on competition performance. This information can be provided to windsurfers and coaching as basic data for training programs to improve performance.

  • Objective of this study was to investigate the effects of all current speed on the microclimates above and inside the plug stand under artificial light. Maximum air temperature appeared near the top of the plug stand. Difference in air temperature inside the plug stand increased with the decreasing air current speed. Difference in relative humidity(DRH) to the relative humidity at the Inlet of the main air flow conditioner Inside and above the plug stand decreased with the increasing air current speed. Relative humidity inside the plug stand was 10-15% higher than that above the plug stand. DRH inside a stand of plug at air current speed of 0.3m s$^{-1}$ was about two times as many as that at air current speed of 0.9 m s$^{-1}$ . DRH inside the plug stand was 2.8-6.5% higher at LAI of 2.6 than that at LAI of 0.5. Gradient for the vapour pressure deficit was distinctly appeared at the low air current speed. Direction of vapour pressure flux is from the medium surface upwards. Difference in vapour pressure(DVPD) to the vapour pressure deficit at the inlet of the main air flow conditioner inside and above the plug stand decreased with the increasing height above the medium surface. DVPD inside the plug stand was 0.3-0.4㎪ higher at air current speed of 0.9m s$^{-1}$ than that at air current speed of 0.3m s$^{-1}$ . Results for the effects of air current speed on the relative humidity and vapour pressure deficit indicated that the microclimates above and inside the plug stand at the rear region in plug trays were slightly unfavorable compared to those at middle region.

  • This paper proposes a new concept of optimal shortest path algorithm which reduce average vehicle wating time and improve average vehicle speed, Electro sensitive traffic system can extend the traffic cycle when three are many vehicles on the road or it can reduce the traffic cycle when there are small vehicles on the road. But electro sensitive traffic light system doesn't control that kind of function when the average vehicle speed is 10km -20km. Therefore, in this paper to reduce vehicle waiting time we developed design of traffic cycle software tool that can arrive destinination as soon as possible using optimal shortest pass algorithm. Computer simulation result proved 10%-32% reducing average vehicle wating time and average vehicle speed which can select shortest route using built in G.P.S. vehicle is better than not being able to select shortest route function.

  • An intensive study was conducted for the crash worthy structural design of the recently developed Korean High Speed Train (KHST). Two main design concepts were set up to protect both crews and passengers from serious injury in heavy collision accidents, and to reduce damage to the train itself in light collision accidents. A collision against a movable 15-ton rigid obstacle at 110 kph was selected from train accident investigations as the accident scenario for the heavy collisions. A train-to-train collision at the relative velocity of 16 kph was used for the light collision. The crashworthiness behaviors of KHST were numerically evaluated using FEM. Analysis results using 1-D collision dynamics model of the full rake consist and 3-D shell element model of the front end structure showed good crashworthy responses in a viewpoint of structural design. Occupant analyses and sled tests demonstrated that KHST performed well enough to protect occupants under the considered accident scenarios. Finally our numerical approaches were evaluated by a real scale collision test.

  • This study is intended to look into the influence of environment and construction factor on bleeding of concrete. According to the results, as wind is light, relative humidity is high and temperature is low, the amount of bleeding increases greatly, and evaporation speed is influenced greatly by order of wind, temperature and humidity. As the properties of bleeding by construction factor, the amount of bleeding increases with an increase of placing thickness, but the bleeding ratio, the amount of bleeding per unit volume, increases with a decrease of the placing thickness. Bleeding speed is fastest at about 90 minute after placing concrete. Also, as wind is light, relative humidity is high, temperature is low and the placing thickness is thick, bleeding speed grow faster.
