  • We fabricated white light-emitting organic electroluminescent device which have a mixed single emitting layer containing poly(N-vinylcarbazole)[PVK], tris(8-hydroxyquinoline)aluminum[Alq3] and poly(3-hexylthiophene)[P3HT] and investigated the emission properties of it. We expect to obtain a blue light from PVK, green light from Alq3 and red light from P3HT The fabricated device emits white light over 18V with slight orange light. We think that the energy transfer in a mixed layer occurred from PVK to $Alq_3$ and P3HT resulted in decreasing the blue light intensity from PVK. With mixing of N, N'-diphenyl-N, N'-(3-methylphenyl)-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4, 4'-diamine[TPD], hole transport material, to the emitting layer, the luminance intensity of device was increased 50 times than that of the device which not contain TPD. We find that the efficiency of the white light electroluminescent device can be improved by injecting electron more effectively and blue light need to improve the color purity of white light.

  • Two bicarbazyl-containing fluorene copolymers, PFEBCz (95/5) and PFEBCz (75/25), were synthesized for white light electroluminescence from a single emitting polymer. All synthesized polymers were soluble in common organic solvents such as chloroform and toluene. The weight-average molecular weights (Mw) of the PFEBCz (95/5) and PFEBCz (75/25) copolymers were found to be 11,000 and 5,700 with polydispersity indices 1.4 and 1.8. The EL spectrum of the PFEBCz (75/25) device showed bright white-light emission with CIE coordinates of (0.32, 0.34) at 1000 cd/m2, which is very close to that for pure white (0.33, 0.33). This white emission may have been due to strong excimer formation between the bicarbazyl and fluorene polymer backbone. The device exhibited a maximum brightness of 3400 cd/m2 with a maximum efficiency of 0.2 cd/A.

  • A simple method of fabricating out-coupling structures was demonstrated via solution-processing to enhance light extraction from organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Scattering layers were easily obtained by spin-coating an $SiO_2$ sol solution that contained $TiO_2$ particles. By introducing the scattering layer and the solution-processible corrugated structure as internal and external extraction layers, the OLEDs showed increased external quantum efficiency without a change in the electroluminescence spectrum compared to conventional devices. Using these solution-processible out-coupling structures, nearly all-solution-processed OLEDs with enhanced light extraction could be fabricated. The light extraction enhancement is attributed to the suppression by the out-coupling structures of the light-trapping that arose at the interface of the glass substrate and the air.

  • In this study, we fabricated a polymer light emitting diode (PLED) and investigated its electrical and optical characteristics in order to examine the effects of the PFO [poly(9,9-dioctylfluorene-2-7-diyl) end capped with N,N-bis(4-methylphenyl)-4-aniline] concentrations in the emission layer (EML). The PFO polymer was dissolved in toluene ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 wt%, and then spin-coated. To verify the influence of the TPBI [2,2',2"-(1,3,5-Benzinetriyl)-tris(1-phenyl-1-H-benzimidazole)]electron transport layer, TPBI small molecules were deposited by thermal evaporation. The current density, luminance, wavelength and current efficiency characteristics of the prepared PLED devices with and without TPBI layer at various PFO concentrations were measured and compared. The luminance and current efficiency of the PLED devices without TPBI layer were increased, from 117 to $553\;cd/m^2$ and from 0.015 to 0.110 cd/A, as the PFO concentration increased from 0.2 to 1.0 wt%. For the PLED devices with TPBI layer, the luminance and current efficiency were $1724\;cd/m^2$ and 0.501 cd/A at 1.0 wt% PFO concentration. The CIE color coordinators of the PLED device with TPBI layer at 1.0 wt% PFO concentration showed a more pure blue color compared with the one without TPBI, and the CIE values varied from (x, y) = (0.21, 0.23) to (x, y) = (0.16, 0.11).

  • New electroluminescent polymers with fluoro groups in vinylene units, poly(m-silylphenyl-p-phenylene-difluorovinylene) (m-SiP-PPDFV) have been synthesized by GILCH polymerization. These polymers have been used as the electroluminescent (EL) layers in single layer light-emitting diodes (LEDs) (ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Ca:Al). m-SiP-PPDFV shows PL around $\lambda_{max}$ = 452 nm and green EL around $\lambda_{max}$ = 497 nm. The current-voltage-luminance (I-V-L) characteristics of the polymers show turn-on voltages of 4.0 V approximately. Two fluoro groups were introduced on every vinylene units of m-SiP-PPV to give m-SiP-PPDFV in an attempt to increase the electron affinity of the parent polymer, and the devices show an increased color stability even with vinylene units. The color stability is attributed to the electron-withdrawing effect of the fluoro groups, which protect vinylene units from oxidation in PPV derivatives. We believe that fluoro groups can be introduced in vinylene units in order to attain excellent stability of PPV derivatives.

  • Fluorene derivatives are well-known in the polymer OLEDs due to their good charge carrying property. In this work, we synthesized a series of conjugated copolymers based fluorene derivative and phenylamine units by using Buchwald-Hartwig reaction in order to investigate their photoreactivities and use as the HIL/HTL layers of OLEDs using solution processes.

  • The polymer-light emtting diodes(PLEDs) were comprised a design of OLED array, process develop by using ITO thin glass, and fabrication of PDMS stamp by using nanocontact printing. In the study, we describe a different approach for building OLEDs, which is based on physical lamination of thin metal electrodes supported by a PDMS stamp layer against an electroluminescent organic. We develop that devices fabricated in this manner have better performance than those constructed with standard processing techniques. The lamination approach avoids forms of disruption that can be introduced at the electrode organic interface by metal evaporation and has a reduced sensitivity to pinhole or partial pinhole defects. Also, it is easy to build patterned PLED with feature sizes into the nanometer regime. This method provides a new route to PLED for applications ranging from high performance displays to storage and lithography systems, and PLED can used for organic electronics and flexible display.

  • Inkjet printing is commonly used in depositing the solution of functional materials on the specific locations of a substrate, and also it can provide easy and fast patterning of polymer films over a large area. Inkjet printing is applicable to fabricating an organic light emitting diode (OLED), since conducting materials used as emissive electroluminescent layers can be manufactured into inks for ink jetting. By using the inkjet technology, we have succeeded in patterning a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT/PSS) layer and a poly[2-Methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV) layer on the Indume tin oxide (ITO) patterned substrates, and fabricating organic light emitting diodes.

  • We have investigated the effects of hole-injection buffer layer in organic light-emitting diodes using poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(stylenesulfonate)(PEDOT:PSS) in a device structure of $ITO/PEDOT:PSS/TPD/Alq_{3}/cathode$. Polymer PEDOT:PSS buffer layer was made by spin casting method. Current-voltage, luminance-voltage characteristics and efficiency of device were measured at room temperature with a variation of cathode materials; Al, LiF/Al, LiAl, and Ca/Al. The device with LiF/Al cathode shows an improvement of external quantum efficiency approximately by a factor of ten compared to that of Al cathode only device. Our observation shows that cathode is important in improving the efficiency of the organic light-emitting diodes.
