We measured 3-dimensional images of the light emitted from plasma display panel by using newly proposed scanned point detecting method (SPDM). From the 3-dimensional emission images, we know that as the sustain voltage increases, intensity of light detected without phosphor increases and the position of the maximum intensity moves to the outside from the electrode gap. Also, we know that 2-dimensional simulations under the assumption that neglects the Y axis variation do not agree with 3-dimensional experiment results.
Nowadays, the glare towards the light-emitting diode (LED) lighting source has much attention due to its eco-friendly nature, reduced energy consumption, and low CO2 emission. LEDs can show versatile colors by changing the composition ratio of semiconductors. Phosphors re-emit light by absorbing light from LED, which is the key factor for emission. The endeavor to make replica of natural white light is increasing day by day. Industrially, blue LED chip crowned with a yellow phosphor coated lens gives low quality white light. Newly, many researchers are introducing modern approaches, adding red phosphor to the yellow phosphor to increase the quality of white light. Here, we synthesized structurally and chemically stable europium doped oxyapatite Ca8Gd2(PO4)6O2 nano-crystalline structures by a hydrothermal method. The ultrafine structures were formed due to the effect of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, which is confirmed by the transmission electron microscope images. The structural properties were analyzed using the X-ray diffraction patterns.

We propose a simple and efficient driving algorithm to reduce Dynamic False Contour(DFC) in Plasma Display Panels(PDPs) by using both accumulation and combination of light emission periods. Although the accumulative way of light emission in sustain period is regarded as more effective than combinational way to reduce DFC, it takes much addressing time to express high gray-scale. Therefore, we combine accumulative and combinational light emission methods to reduce DFC. In the proposed method, one TV field (16.7ms) is composed of four combinational subfields for expressing small gray scales and fifteen accumulative subfields for large gray scales. In addition, we use some Graphic Signal Processing(GSP) algorithm to get more natural images by reducing DFC.
We measured 3-dimensional images of the light emitted from plasma display panel(PDP) by using newly proposed scanned point detecting method(SPDM). The SPDM has the point detector with pinhole. The light emitted from PDP cell at the in-focus position can pass through the pinhole and be collected by detector. On the contrary, the light emitted from PDP cell at the out-of-focus positions is focused on the front of or the behind of the pinhole. We could analyze the characteristic of 3-dimensional light emission distribution by SPDM. From 3-dimensional measurement of 828[nm], the efficient design of PDP cell, the importance of opening ration, and the relations between BUS electrode position and discharge intensity are obtained. Also, the relationship between discharge characteristics and sustain electrode structures in AC-PDP are studied by measuring luminance, current, and discharge voltage.

Water dispersible ZnS based nanocrystals: ZnS (blue), ZnS:Cu (green) and ZnS:Mn (yellow-orange) were synthesized by capping the surface of the nanocrystals with a mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) molecule. The MPA capped ZnS based nanocrystal powders were characterized by using XRD, HR-TEM, EDXS, FT-IR, and FT-Raman spectroscopy. The optical properties of the colloidal nanocrystals were also measured by UV/Vis and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopies in aqueous solvents. The PL spectra showed broad emission peaks at 440 nm (ZnS), 510 nm (ZnS:Cu) and 600 nm (ZnS:Mn), with relative PL efficiencies in the range of 4.38% to 7.20% compared to a reference organic dye. The measured average particle sizes from the HR-TEM images were in the range of 4.5 to 5.0 nm. White light emission was obtained by mixing these three nanocrystals at a molar ratio of 20 (ZnS):1 (ZnS:Cu):2 (ZnS:Mn) in water. The measured color coordinate of the white light was (0.31, 0.34) in the CIE chromaticity diagram, and the color temperature was 5527 K.

The efficacy improvement issues in a unit discharge cell have been approached from the structural considerations. The tested cell designs include (a) a coplanar type with annular auxiliary electrode buried in barrier ribs, (b) a coplanar type with split auxiliary electrodes also burred in barrier ribs and (c) a coaxial type with a floating electrode stacked on the base electrode. From spatiotemporally resolved optical images of near-IR emission taken by a gated-ICCD camera and relative VUV emission intensity estimated by laser absorption spectroscopy, the differences in the discharge and light emission performances of those three cell types have been compared and discussed.
In this paper, we have performed 3-dimensional time-resolving measurement of the Ne light emitted from the cell of plasma display panel(PDP) as a function of the pressure using the scanned point detecting system. From the temporal behavior results, we could analyze the discharge behavior of panel with Ne-Xe(4%) mixing gas and 300 torr, 400 torr and 500 torr pressure. At the top view of panel, the discharge of 300 torr panel starts at the 634 ns and ends at the 722 ns. The emission duration time is about 90 ns. The discharge of 400 torr panel starts at the 682 ns and ends at the 786 ns. the emission duration time is about 100 ns. Also, the discharge of 500 torr panel starts at the 770 ns and ends at the 826 ns. the emission duration time is about 56 ns. The discharge moves from inner edge of cathode electrode to outer cathode electrode forming arc type. In the side view of 300 torr, 400 torr and 500 torr an emission shows that the light is detected up to 180${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 150${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 70${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ height of barrier rib and the emission distribution of the 300 torr is wider than 400 torr, 500 torr.

The present paper describes the results of high speed photography, acoustic emission (AE) detection and plasma light emission (LE) measurement during $CO_2$ laser welding of 304 stainless steel in different processing conditions. Video images with high spatial and temporal resolution allowed to observe the melt dynamics and keyhole evolution. The existence of keyhole was confirmed by the slag motion on the weld pool. The characteristic frequencies of flow instability and keyhole fluctuations at different welding speed were measured and compared with the results of Fourier analyses of temporal AE and LE spectra. The experimental results were compared with the newly developed numerical model of keyhole dynamics. The model is based on the assumption that the propagation of front part of keyhole into material is due to the melt ejection driven by laser induced surface evaporation. The calculations predict that a high speed melt flow is induced at the front part of keyhole when the sample travel speed exceeds several 10 mm/s. The numerical analysis also shows the hump formation on the front keyhole wall surface. Experimentally observed melt behavior and transformation of the AE and LE spectra with variation of welding speed are qualitatively in good agreement with the model predictions.
We report the fabrication and electroluminescent characteristics of GaN/InxGa1-xN microdonut-shaped light-emitting diode (LED) microarrays as variable-color emitters. The diameter, width, height, and period of the GaN microdonuts were controlled by their growth parameters and the geometrical factors of the growth mask patterns. For the fabrication of microdonut LEDs, p-GaN/p-AlxGa1-xN/u-GaN/u-InxGa1-xN heteroepitaxial layers were coated on the entire surface of n-GaN microdonuts. The microdonut LED arrays showed strong light emission, which could be seen with the unaided eye under normal room illumination. Additionally, magnified optical images of microdonut LED arrays exhibited microdonut-shaped light emissions having spatially resolved blue and green colors. Their electroluminescence spectra had two dominant peaks at 460 and 560 nm. With increasing applied voltage, the intensity of the blue emission peak increased much faster than that of the green emission peak, indicating that the color of the LEDs is tunable. We also demonstrated that EL spectra of the devices could be controlled by changing the size of microdonut LEDs. What we want to emphasize here with the microdonut LEDs is that they have additional inner sidewall facets which did not exist for other typical three-dimensional structures including nanopyramids and nanorods, and that InxGa1-xN single quantum well formed on the inner sidewall facets had unique thickness and chemical composition, which generated additional EL color. The origin of the electroluminescence peaks was investigated by structural characterizations and chemical analyses.
