단결정 다이아몬드 공구를 이용한 미세 패턴 가공성에 대한 실험적 분석 (Experimental Investigation on Machining Feasibility of Micro Patterns using a Single Crystal Diamond Tool)

  • The continuing demand for increasingly slimmer and brighter liquid crystal display(LCD) panels has led to an increased focus on the role of the light guide panels(LGPs) or optical films that are used to obtain diffuse, uniform light from the backlight unit(BLU). And the most basic process in the production of such BLU components is the micromachining. LCD BLUs comprise various optical elements such as a LGP, diffuser sheet, prism sheet, and protector sheet with micro patterns. High aspect ratio patterns are required to reduce the number of sheets and enhance light efficiency, but there is a limit to the aspect ratio achievable for a given material and cutting tool. Therefore, this study comprised a series of experimental evaluations conducted to determine the machining feasibility in microcutting various aspect ratio patterns on electroless nickel plated die materials when using single-crystal diamond tools. Cutting performance was evaluated at various cutting speeds and depths of cut using different machining methods and machine tools.

대면적 엣지형 LED 디스플레이의 광특성 향상을 위한 도광판설계 (Design of Light Guide Plate to Improve Optical Characteristics for Large-Area Edge-lit LED Display)

  • Through the rapid development of LED TV, a large-area edge-lit backlight unit is widely researched in the display industry for enhancing the optical efficiency, luminous uniformity and slim design. In addition, an edge-lit backlight unit includes many optical sheets such as reflection sheet, prism sheet and diffuser sheet. However the function can be replaced by the carefully patterned light guide plate (LGP). Micro patterns which located on the top and bottom surface of light guide plate was designed by ray-tracing optical simulation. The designed patterns improved the light characteristics of LGP, including optical extraction efficiency and intensity distribution uniformity. These results suggest that it is very effective method to design edge-lit LGP with micro-patterns on both sides for large-area display and to reduce the fabrication cost.

Photopolymer Composed of a Photosensitive Polymer Binder Bearing a Chalcone Moiety in the Repeating Unit

  • New photopolymers were designed and prepared using the photosensitive polymer binders. Holographic gratings were successfully fabricated in these photopolymer samples by a conventional optical interference method. We also investigated the effect of photocrosslink in the polymer binder on the diffraction behavior of a new photopolymer. The dynamic behavior of the grating formation was monitored by changing exposure intensity in terms of the diffraction efficiency. Particularly, we focused our efforts in observing the variation of diffraction efficiency during a post UV curing process. The surface topographical change of photopolymer layer before and after Vis/UV light exposure was observed by atomic force microscope (AFM). We inscribed the gratings of the glass diffuser on the surface of the photopolymer and investigated their diffusing properties. The diffusers with photopolymer with the main chain polymer binder showed relatively good viewing angle of around ${\pm}30{\circ}$. Two kinds of photopolymer showed similar uniformity of around 47-54%.

실내 건축공간에 있어 수평채광덕트 시스템의 적용에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Application of Horizontal Daylight Duct System in Building Interior Space)

  • 본 논문은 건축물에 적용할 수 있는 자연채광 시스템으로서 채광부 반사판과 방광부의 위치 및 크기 등을 개선한 수평형 채광덕트를 개발하고자 하였으며, 이에 따른 실물모형 실험을 통하여 채광성능을 분석하고 적용가능성을 검증하고자 하였다. 연구결과 채광덕트의 적용시 청천공 상태에서는 실내 안쪽에서 0.3∼0.4%의 조도비가 측정되었다. 또한 덕트 폭보다 150[cm] 이상 넓은 조도분포를 가지는 것으로 나타났으며, 채광성능이 높아 실제 건물에 적용할 경우 주간시간대에서 조명에너지 절약 가능성이 높은 것으로 판단되었다.

  • In this paper, the performance of Hybrid Dimming control system for Daylighting system is evaluated by accredited tests. The system controls the balance of illuminance of daylight between daylight system and LED light system. It makes the normal illuminance of interior without the effects of weather by controlling the LED depending on the brightness of outside. For the tests, 6 diffusers($600{\times}300mm$) were installed in lighting area($36m^2$) and normal operation of the system sensors were tested about the interference of sunlight. The results of the examinations were satisfied with the criteria of accredited tests. Further research is the verification of energy saving effect by comparing the Hybrid Dimming control system to current artificial light system.

  • A new gas jet Z-pinch EUV light source having double gas jet electrodes has been developed. It has two nozzles and two diffusers. The EUV beam is collected from the side of pinch plasma, generated in between the inner nozzle and corresponding diffuser. A cylindrical shell of He gas curtain produced by the outer nozzle is specially designed for shielding the debris and suppressing the inner gas expansion. We have succeeded in generating EUV energy of 1.22 mJ/sr/2%BW/pulse at 13.5nm. The estimated dimension of EUV source is to be FWHM diameter of 0.07 mm and length of 0.34 mm, and FW 1/e2 diameter of 0.15 mm and length of 1.2 mm.

광분할 반사경이 집적된 단일 광원 기반의 통합형 듀얼 백라이트 유닛 (Dual Backlight Unit Incorporating a Single Light Source Integrated with a Beam Splitting Reflector)

  • 본 논문에서는 단일 광원에 광분할 반사경을 집적하여 휴대폰의 디스플레이부와 키패드부에 동시 적용 가능한 통합형 듀얼 백라이트 유닛을 제안하고 구현하였다. 이 광분할 반사경은 상부 커버와 홈 모양의 하부 기판을 서로 정렬함으로써 구현되며, 반사경 좌우에는 도광판, 확산 쉬트, 프리즘 쉬트로 이루어진 도광 모듈이 연결되어 있다. 하부 기판의 중앙에 위치한 광원에서 방사된 광은 반사경 내부에서 다중 반사를 하면서 진행하고, 도광 모듈에 입사된 후 면광원으로 변환된다. 제작된 듀얼 백라이트 유닛의 측정 결과를 살펴보면, 키패드부에서의 평균 휘도 및 휘도 균일도는 각각 $420\;cd/m^2$와 69%, 디스플레이부에서는 $640\;cd/m^2$와 79%였다.

LED 조명용 반투명 유리 광확산판에 있어서 성형 및 냉각온도가 유백특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of forming and cooling temperature on the opaque properties of translucent opal glass for the glass diffuser of LED lighting)

  • LED 조명등의 내구성 문제를 개선할 목적으로 광 확산판에 사용되는 폴리카보네이트 소재를 대체하기 위하여 반투명 유백유리를 제조하였다. 유백유리의 유백제로서 인산칼슘을 사용하였고, $1550^{\circ}C$ 전기로에서 2시간 용융하였다. 유백유리는 용융유리가 성형된 후 냉각 열처리 과정에서 상분리 및 유백입자의 성장에 의해 만들어진다. 따라서 성형 및 냉각온도를 상온, $850^{\circ}C$, $1100^{\circ}C$$1200^{\circ}C$ 로 변화시키면서 유백특성의 영향을 확인하였다. 결과적으로 가장 고온인 $1200^{\circ}C$에서 성형 및 냉각을 한 샘플에서 가장 양호한 특성을 갖는 유백유리가 얻어졌다. 이 유리는 82 % 이상의 높은 Haze 값과 10 % 미만의 낮은 평행광 투과도에 의해 직사광 투과에 의한 눈부심이 없이 LED 조명용 광확산판으로서 우수한 광특성을 나타내었다. 또한 열적특성으로서 $6.309{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$의 열팽창 계수와 $839^{\circ}C$의 연화점을 나타내었다.

2륜 자동차 촉매변환기내 배기가스 온도균일도 특성과 Light-Off에 관한 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of Exhaust Gas Temperature Uniformity and Light-off in Motorcycle Catalytic Converter)

  • This study represents the temperature uniformity in catalytic converter. Present research model type is a monolithic catalytic converter. This type was been widely used for complying the regulations of pollutant emissions from automobiles. The mean experimental parameters are engine speed and ceramics monolith in the catalytic converter. The experimental test engine model used was the 124.1cc motorcycle engine. The experimental study using thermal imaging method shows the megaphone type model has larger effective area than the basic model. The rate of effective area in the basic model is about 8.9 % and the megaphone type model are 41.52 %, 34.60 %, 33.43 %, 25.43 %, 17.82 % according to the diffuser angle $4^{\circ}\;to\;8^{\circ}$. In conclusion, the megaphone type monolithic converter has higher efficiency of reducing the pollution with less noise compared to the basic shape. We believe this will be very important as a design guide of the advanced motorcycle.

Enhancement of Speckle Contrast in vivo by Combining Linearly Polarized Laser Light and an Analyzer

  • Speckle imaging is capable of dynamic data acquisition at high spatiotemporal resolution, and has played a vital role in the functional study of biological specimens. The presence of various optical scatterers within the tissue causes alteration of speckle contrast. Thus structures like blood vessels can be delineated and quantified. Although laser speckle imaging is frequently used, an optimization process to ensure the maximum speckle contrast has not been available. In this respect, we here report an experimental procedure to optimize speckle contrast via applying different combinations of varying polarization of the illuminating laser light and multiple analyzer angles. Specifically, samples were illuminated by the p-polarization, 45°-polarization, and s-polarization of the incident laser, and speckle images were recorded without and with the analyzer rotated from 0° to 180° (Δ = 30°). Following the baseline imaging of a solid diffuser and a fixed brain sample, laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) was successfully performed to visualize in vivo mouse-brain blood flow. For oblique laser illumination, the maximum contrast achieved with p-polarized and s-polarized light was perpendicular to the analyzer's axis. This study demonstrates the optimization process for maximizing the speckle contrast, which can improve blood-flow estimation in vivo.
