Recently, rapid development of technique and change of lifestyle during nighttime has activated the urban outdoor lighting and renovated consideration of nightscape. As the interest of nightscape increases more widely, outdoor lighting has been installed more and more in the cities. Nightscape comes in diverse forms. So, there is no absolute standard for outdoor lighting. But only bright outdoor lighting is not necessarily a good nightscape. Installation lighting without master plan or excessive outdoor lighting may cause a inharmony. This study aims to analyze the luminous characteristics of facade in shopping complexes. For the purpose, four large-scale shopping complexes located in Dongdaemun area were selected. Building facade composition, outdoor lighting composition, and lighting equipment of each shopping complexes are surveyed, and luminance of building facade were measured with Prometric 1400. The result of the study are as follows; (1) Horizontally large-scale shopping complexes emphasize the building entrance and shape of the building at night by outdoor lighting. (2) Non cut-off luminaries installed in building entrance and shop front caused the potential of light pollution.

In comparison with some other light sources, LED has merits such as increased life expectancy, fast response, pollution free, and high energy efficiency. Lately, due to development of LED with high brightness and capacity, LED has widely used in many industrial fields such as automotive, aviation, display, transportation and special lighting applications. Since the high heat generation of LED chips can cause a reduction in lifetime, degradation of luminous efficiency, and variation of color temperature, studies have been carried out on the optimization of LED packaging and heat sinks. In this study, experiments on measuring the heat generation rate of LED and the cooling performance of a heat sink were carried for analyzing the thermal characteristics of LED lighting system in free convection. From the results, dimensionless correlation on the cooling performance of heat sink in natural convection was proposed with Nusselt number and Rayleigh number as a guideline for designing cooling device of LED lightings.

The processes of regional scales in the East Korean coastal waters were investigated by analysis of the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images taken by the European Research Satellites ERS-1, ERS-2 and Envisat. More than 500 quick look frames taken in 1991-2003 were examined to detect the frames with clearly surface expressions of oceanic phenomena. 26 ERS-1/2 SAR and 11 Envisat wide swath Advanced SAR (ASAR) frames were selected and obtained from the European Space Agency in a form of the precision high-resolution images. The following oceanic phenomena and processes were evident in the radar imagery through the Korean costal waters: fronts, currents, eddies, internal waves, island and ship wakes, oil pollution, etc. They manifested themselves in the field of sea surface roughness, their scale ranged from several tens meters to about 100 km. The most common morphology of these phenomena was a series of contrast dark or light curvilinear lines and bands. The joint analysis of the discussed SAR images with other satellite and in situ data supported and enhanced our interpretation of SAR signatures.

Traffic emissions are the main cause of environmental pollution in cities and respiratory problems amongst people. This study developed a model based on an integration of support vector regression (SVR) algorithm and geographic information system (GIS) to map traffic carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations and produce prediction maps from micro level to macro level at a particular time gap in a day in a very densely populated area (Utara-Selatan Expressway-NKVE, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia). The proposed model comprised two models: the first model was implemented to estimate traffic CO concentrations using the SVR model, and the second model was applied to create prediction maps at different times a day using the GIS approach. The parameters for analysis were collected from field survey and remote sensing data sources such as very-high-resolution aerial photos and light detection and ranging point clouds. The correlation coefficient was 0.97, the mean absolute error was 1.401 ppm and the root mean square error was 2.45 ppm. The proposed models can be effectively implemented as decision-making tools to find a suitable solution for mitigating traffic jams near tollgates, highways and road networks.

There is growing interest in sustainable energy sources that can reduce fossil fuel dependence and environmental pollution while meeting rapidly growing energy demands. Hydrogen have been investigated as one of the ideal alternative energies because it has relatively high efficiency without emitting pollutants. The light-sensitized enzymatic (LSE) system, which uses hydrogenase-enzymes, is one of the methods towards economically feasible system configurations that enhance the rate of hydrogen generation. Hydrogenase is an enzyme that catalyzes a reversible reaction that oxidizes molecular hydrogen or produces molecular hydrogen from protons and electrons. In this paper, utilization of [NiFe]-hydrogenase (from Pyrococcus furiosus) in photoelectrochemical hydrogen production system such as handling, immobilization, physicochemical and electrochemical analysis, process parameters, etc. was introduced.
In recent years, large-scale and high-density use of LED on facades has exposed some disadvantages, such as light pollution, high energy consumption, unsustainability, and poor interactivity. Because of the development of smartphones and augmented reality (AR), AR has emerged as a new technology available to users to interact with the media façade. As an augmented reality app for public space, the AR map app can superimpose virtual images on the surface of a building to form an AR media façade, which can be applied in the fields of navigation, advertising, interactive public art, smart retail, etc. This study establishes the variables influencing usage intention and the consequent outcomes of Huawei AR map app and uses the technology acceptance model (TAM) to discuss their relationship. Results show that consumer innovativeness, information quality, and design quality have a strong influence on perceived ease of use. Information quality has a positive impact on perceived usefulness, but design quality has a weak influence. Also, the design quality of Huawei AR map app and consumer innovativeness have a higher effect on perceived enjoyment than information quality. Users' usage attitude and perceived usefulness when using Huawei AR map app are key factors determining their usage intention. This study inspires city planners, architects, developers, and designers of AR apps that augmented reality can partly replace media façade, and that investment in augmented reality will achieve significant sustainable economic and social benefits.
This study proposes a pH-dissolved-oxygen monitoring system using 8-HydroxyPyrene-1,3,6-trisulfonic acid Trisodium Salt (HPTS) and tris(4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline)Ruthenium(II) chloride (Rudpp). Commercial water-quality sensors are electrochemical devices that require frequent calibration and cleaning, are subject to high maintenance costs, and have difficulties conducting measurements in real-time. The proposed pH-dissolved-oxygen monitoring system selects a thin-film sensing layer to measure the change in fluorescence intensity. This change in fluorescence intensity is based on reactions with hydrogen ions in an aqueous solution at a given pH and specific amount of dissolved oxygen. The change in fluorescence intensity is then measured using light-emitting diodes and photodiodes in response to HPTS and Rudpp. This method enables the development of a relatively small, inexpensive, and real-time measureable water-quality measurement system.
Recently, the market for masks has been growing due to air pollution, sun protection, pollen allergies and other reasons. In addition, the demand for masks has increased dramatically due to the new coronavirus from 2020, and masks are still one of the necessities of life. Although the reliance on masks is increasing, there are many inconveniences associated with wearing masks for long periods of time. At the same time, technology is developing rapidly, and the demand for smart wearable devices is increasing. Therefore, at the moment when the fourth industrial revolution is underway, combining people's common necessities with IoT technology to bring new convenient experiences to people is an important direction for future technology development and product development. In this study, smart masks were designed and implemented using IoT(Internet of Things) technology. The mask uses a microcomputer Adafruit circuit playground express, using the microcomputer's LED, optical sensors, can be in the dark place light, and through the temperature sensor real-time grasp of body temperature changes. If the body temperature rises above normal, the LED will turn "on" and activate the voice sensor to warn yourself and others around you.
Solar Energy is the energy of solar radiation carried by them in the form of heat and light. It can be converted into electricity. Solar potential depends on the site's atmosphere; the solar energy distribution depends on many factors, e.g., turbidity, cloud types, pollution levels, solar altitude, etc. We estimated solar radiation with the help of the Ashrae clear-sky model for three locations in Pakistan, namely Pasni, Gwadar, and Jiwani. As these locations are close to each other as compared to the distance between the sun and earth, therefore a slight change of latitude and longitude does not make any difference in the calculation of direct beam solar radiation (BSR), diffuse solar radiation (DSR), and global solar radiation (GSR). A modified formula for declination angle is also developed and presented. We also created two different models for Ashrae constants. The values of these constants are compared with the standard Ashrae Model. A good agreement is observed when we used these constants to calculate BSR, DSR, GSR, the Root mean square error (RMSE), Mean Absolute error (MABE), Mean Absolute percent error (MAPE), and chisquare (χ2) values are in acceptance range, indicating the validity of the models.
Lichens play crucial roles in the ecosystems, contributing to soil formation and nutrient cycling, and being used in biomonitoring efforts to assess the sustainability of ecosystems including air quality. Previous studies on heavy metal accumulation in lichens have mostly relied on manipulated environments, such as transplanted lichens, leaving us with a dearth of research on how lichens physiologically respond to heavy metal exposure in their natural habitats. To fill this knowledge gap, we investigated lichens from two of South Korea's geographically distant regions, Gangwon Province and Jeju Island, and examined whether difference in ambient heavy metal concentrations could be detected through physiological variables, including chlorophyll damage, lipid oxidation, and protein content. The physiological variables of lichens in response to heavy metals differed according to the collection area: Arsenic exerted a significant impact on chlorophyll degradation and protein content. The degree of fatty acid oxidation in lichens was associated with increased Cu concentrations. Our research highlights the value of lichens as a bioindicator, as we found that even small variations in ambient heavy metal concentrations can be detected in natural lichens. Furthermore, our study sheds light on which physiology variables that can be used as indicators of specific heavy metals, underscoring the potential of lichens for future ecology studies.
