  • The LEDs are used for signal lights including traffic signals and telecommunication equipments. Advanced foreign countries are making R&D of ultra high intensity LEDs, and the LEDs are expected to new light source. Optical characteristics by measurements of 14 LEDs; each 2 of 3$\Phi$ R/G/Y LEDs, each of 5$\Phi$ Y/G/Y LEDs and each of high intensity 5$\Phi$ R/G/B/A/W LEDs.   • We fabricated highly stable a-Si:H solar cell using low band gap intrinsic layer fabricated by RP-CVD. We obtained a-Si:H with optical band gap of less than 1.65 eV with deposition rate of 0.18 $\AA$/sec, and used this material as bottom i-layer of a-Si:H double stacked solar cells. We have succeeded in the fabrication of very stable a-Si:H double stacked solar cell of which the conversion efficiency is about 9% and the degradation is less than 4% after light illumination for 100h under 350mW/cm$^{2}$.

  • Electroluminescent(EL) dcvice based on organic thin layers have attracted lots of interests because of thier possible application as large-area light-emitting displays. It was known that MEH-PPV and 1, 1, 4, 4, -Tetraphenyl-1, 3-butadiene(TPB) has red and blue emission peak at 580nm and 480nm, respectively. In this study, MEH-PPV films and TPB films were prepared by spin coating and vacuum deposition method, respectively. Films of MEH-PPV and TPB double layer were also prepared by the same method. Photoluminescent(PL) characteristics of these single and doubler layers were investigated, where a cell structure of glass substrate/ITO/MEH-PPV and/or TPB/Al was employed. It was found that the photoluminescent efficiency of TPB film was higher than that of MEH-PPV film with a single layer and also with a double structure. These films have also different I-V characteristics.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin film is a transparent electrode, which is widely applied to solar battery, illuminators, optical switches, liquid crystal displays (LCDs), plasma display panels (PDPs), and organic light emitting displays (OLEDs) due to its easy formation on glass substrates, goof optical transmittance, and good conductivity. ITO thin film is generally fabricated by various methods such as spray, CVD, evaporation, electron gun deposition, direct current electroplating, high frequency sputtering, and reactive DC sputtering. However, some problems such as peaks, bumps, large particles, and pin-holes on the surface of ITO thin film were reported, which caused the destruction of color quality, the reduction of device life time, and short-circuit. Chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) processis one of the suitable solutions which could solve the problems.

  • Characteristics of organic light-emitting diodes(OLEDs) were studied with devices made by PECCP[poly(3,6-N-2-ethylhexyl carbazolyl cyanoterephthalidene)] Langmuir-Blodget(LB) films. The emissive organic material was synthesized and named PECCP, which has a strong electron donor group and an electron accepter group in main chain repeated unit. The LB technique was employed to investigate the identification of the recombination zone in the ITO/PECCP LB films/Alq$_3$/Al structure by varying the LB film thickness. PECCP was considered as an emissive layer and Alq$_3$was used as an electron-transport layer. We measured current-voltage(I-V) characteristics, UV/visible absorption, PL spectrum, and EL spectrum of those devises.

  • The thermal distribution of 2D and 3D p-n photovoltaic diode structures with and without surface texturing has been studied. By analysis of the numerical simulation results of the I-V characteristics and lattice temperature distributions the effect of different texturing structures on the characteristics of silicon p-n photovoltaic devices has been studied systematically. The efficiency of the device having surface texturing shows more than ~2% enhancement compared to the reference devices which did not have texturing. In addition, the effect of the density of the texturing groove has been studied and it has been confirmed that the texturing structure not only improves the light trapping but also plays an important role in the heat radiation.

  • In this paper, a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC), one of the representative third-generation solar cells with eco-friendly materials and processes compared to other solar cells, was modeled using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation was conducted by designating values of series resistance, parallel resistance, light absorption coefficient, and thin film electrode thickness, which are directly related to the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells, as arbitrary experimental values. In order to analyze the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells, the optimal value among each parameter experimental value related to efficiency was found using formulas for fill factor (FF) and conversion efficiency.

  • The water pumping system uses a variable speed single phase induction motor driven a centrifugal pump by field oriented control(FOC) inverter. The MPPT using a DC-DC converter controlled the duty cycle to track maximum power from PV under different insolation conditions. The duty cycle directly relate with a flux producing current control($i_{ds}$). The FOC inverter uses a current control voltage source inverter(CC-VSI). The simulation results are shown that the characteristics and performance of drive system, which varies as each conditions of light by expresses in voltage$(V_{dq})$, current$(I_{dq})$, speed of motor and torque.

  • lTO(Indium-Tin-Oxide) was used as anode material for OLED. Characteristics of ITO have great effect on efficiency of OLEDS(Organic light emitting diodes). ITO surface was treated by Nd:YAG laser in order to improve its chemical properties, wettability, adhesive property and to remove the surface contaminants while maintaining its original function. In this study, main purpose was to improve the efficiency of OLEDs by the ITO surface treatment: ITO surface was treated using a Nd:YAG(${\lambda}=266nm$, pulse) with a fixed power of 0.06[w] and various stage scanning velocities. Surface morphology of the ITO was investigated by AFM. Test OLEDs with surface treated ITO were fabricated by deposition of TPD (HTL), Ald3 (ETL/TML) and Al (cathode) thin films. Device performance of the OLEDs such as V-I-L was investigated using Source Measurement Unit (SMU: Keithly. Model 2400) and Luminance Measurement (TOPCON. BM-8).

Design of the Artificial Antenna System in Photosynthesis

  • Zinc chlorin 1 possessing tertiary 3$^1$_hydroxy and 13$^1$-oxo groups was synthesized as a model for the antenna chlorophylls of photosynthetic green bacteria. Self-aggregation of 1 in nonpolar organic solvents was examined and compared to 2 and 3 possessing a secondary and primary 3$^1$_hydroxy group, respectively. Zinc chlorin 1 self-aggregated in I%(v/v) CH$_2$Cl$_2$-hexane to form oligomers and showed a red-shifted Qy maximum at 704 nm compared to the monomer (648 nm in CH$_2$CI2$_2$). This red-shift is larger than that of 3$^1$S-2 (648 to 697 nm) and comparable to that of3$^1$R-2 (648 to 705 nm), but smaller than that of 1 (648 to 740 nm), indicating that while a single 3$^1$-methyl group (primary to secondary OH) suppressed tight and/or extended aggregation, the additional 3$^1$-methyl group (secondary to tertiary OH) did not further suppress aggregation. The relative stability of the aggregates was in the order 3> 3$^1$R-2∼ 1 > 3$^1$S-2 as determined by visible spectral analyses. Molecular modeling calculations on oligomers of zinc chlorins 1, 3$^1$ R-2 and 3 gave similar well-ordered energy-minimized structures, while 3 stacked more tightly than 3$^1$ R- 2 and 1. In contrast, 3$^1$S-2 gave a relatively disordered (twisted) structure. The calculated oligomeric structures could explain the visible spectral data of 1-3 in nonpolar organic solvents. Moreover, self- aggregation of synthetic zinc 13$^1$_oxo-hlorins 4-6 possessing a 2-hydroxyethyl, 3-hydroxypropyl and 3- hydroxy-I-propenyl group at the 3-position in nonpolar organic solvents was discussed.
