  • The interfacial chemical behavior, lattice exchange and dissolution, of $FeS_{(S)}$ as one of the important sulfide minerals was studied. Emphases were made on the surface characterization of hydrous $FeS_{(S)}$, the lattice exchange of Cu(II) and $FeS_{(S)}$, and its effect on the dissolution of $FeS_{(S)}$, and also affect some organic ligands on that of both Cu(II) and $FeS_{(S)}$. Cu(II) which has lower sulfide solubility in water than $FeS_{(S)}$ undergoes the lattice exchange reaction when Cu(II) ion contacts $FeS_{(S)}$ in the aqueous phase. For heavy metals which have higher sulfide solubilities in water than $FeS_{(S)}$, these metal ions were adsorbed on the surface of $FeS_{(S)}$. Such a reaction was interpreted by the solid solution formation theory. Phthalic acid(a weak chelate agent) and EDTA(a strong chelate agent) were used to demonstrate the effect of organic lignads on the lattice exchange reaction between Cu(II) and $FeS_{(S)}$. The $pH_{zpc}$ of $FeS_{(S)}$ is 7 and the effect of ionic strength is not showed. It can be expected that phthalic acid has little effect on the lattice exchange reaction between Cu(II) and $FeS_{(S)}$. whereas EDTA has very decreased the removal of Cu(II) and $FeS_{(S)}$. This study shows that stability of sulfide sediments was predicted by its solubility. The pH control of the alkaline-neutralization process to treat heavy metal in wastewater treatment process did not needed. Thereby, it was regarded as an optimal process which could apply to examine a long term stability of marshland closely in the treatment of heavy metal in wastewater released from a disussed mine.

  • The formation constants of the mixed-ligand complexes in the Cd(II), Cu(II) and Pb(II)-Trien-OH system were studied by polarograph. The formation constant $(log{\beta}_{ij})$ was determined at $25^{\circ}C$ in the ionic strength of 0.1. It was also confirmed that the mixed ligand complexes in this system were formed above pH 10.2, 10.5 and 9.0 for Cu(II), Cd(II) and Pb(II) by the calculation of the distribution for complexes at the various pH. Masking of Cd(II) by conversion to anionic EDTA-complexes has been used to separate Cu(II) from Cd(II) through passage of a combined Trien-EDTA solution on an cationic resin column. The optimal condition for the separation of Cu(II) from Cd(II) is confirmed at the pH range above 9.0, not only by considering the theoretical equation of the conditional-exchange-constant of metal on the cation exchange resin, but also by calculating the distribution of the mixed ligand complexes in the resin at the various pH with computer. By analyzing the synthetic sample of Cu(II) and Cd(II) with a EDTA masking at pH 9.5, it is found that the results of the experiment are satisfied with the theoretical value.

  • In anion exchange membrane fuel cells, Pd nanoparticles are extensively studied as promising non-Pt catalysts due to their electronic structure similar to Pt. In this study, to fabricate Pd nanoparticles well dispersed on carbon support materials, we propose a synthetic strategy using mixed organic ligands with different chemical structures and functions. Simultaneously to control the Pd particle size and dispersion, a ligand mixture composed of oleylamine(OA) and trioctylphosphine(TOP) is utilized during thermal decomposition of Pd precursors. In the ligand mixture, OA serves mainly as a reducing agent rather than a stabilizer since TOP, which has a bulky structure, more strongly interacts with the Pd metal surface as a stabilizer compared to OA. The specific roles of OA and TOP in the Pd nanoparticle synthesis are studied according to the mixture composition, and the oxygen reduction reaction(ORR) activity and durability of highly-dispersed Pd nanocatalysts with different particles sizes are investigated. The results of this study confirm that the Pd nanocatalyst with large particles has high durability compared to the nanocatalyst with small Pd nanoparticles during the accelerated degradation tests although they initially indicated similar ORR performance.

  • An improved hybrid solar cell was obtained by focusing on the effects of ligand for CdSe nanoparticles, in the active layers. The performance was compared by mixing nanoparticles capped with pyridine or oleic acid for the acceptor material into poly(3-hexylthiophene):[6,6]-phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester based active layer. The solar cells with pyridine capped CdSe nanoparticles showed a power conversion efficiency of 2.96% while oleic acid capped CdSe nanoparticles showed 2.85%, under AM 1.5G illumination. Formation of percolation pathways for carrier transport and a reduction in the hopping event resulted in better performance of pyridine capped nanoparticles.

  • The ion exchange resins have been synthesized from chloromethyl styrene (dangerous matter) 1, 4-divinylbenzene(DVB) with 1%, 5%, and 15%-crosslinked and macrocyclic ligand of cryptand type by copolymerization method and the adsorption of uranium(VI), cobalt(II) and europium(III) ions have been investigated in various experimental conditions. The correlation between the adsorption characteristics of rare earths and transition metal on the resins and stability constants of complexes with macrocyclic ligand have been examined. The uranium ion was not adsorbed on the resins below pH 2.0, but the power of adsorption of uranium ion increased rapidly above pH 3.0. The adsorption power was in the order of 1%, 5% and 15%-crosslinked resin, but adsorptive characteristics of resins decreased in proportion to the order of dielectric constants of solvents.

  • $^1H$ NMR spectra of imidazole, 2-and 4(5)-methylimidazole, histamine, L-histidine, L-histidine methyl ester, N${\alpha}$-acetyl-L-histidine, and L-carnosine coordinated to the paramagnetic undecatungstocobalto(II)silicate ($SiW_{11}Co$) and undecatungstonickelo(II)silicate ($SiW_{11}Ni$) anions are reported. For these complexes the ligand exchange is slow on the NMR time scale and the pure resonance lines of the free ligand and the complexes have been observed separately at room temperature. Two different complexes are formed, depending upon which nitrogen atom of the imidazole ring is coordinated to the cobalt or nickel ion of $SiW_{11}M$. Thus the NMR spectrum of a $D_2O$ solution containing a ligand and $SiW_{11}M$ consists of three sets of lines originating from the free ligand and two complexes. All NMR lines of the $SiW_{11}Co$ complexes have been assigned unequivocally using the saturation transfer technique. The temperature dependence of some spectra are also reported. The NMR spectra of some complexes show that the internal rotation of the substituent on the imidazole ring is hampered by the heteropolyanion moiety even at room temperature.

  • With the development of promising future mobility and urban air mobility (UAM) technologies, the demand for LIDAR sensors has increased. The SWIR photodetector is a sensor that detects lasers for the 3D mapping of lidar sensor and is the most important technology of LIDAR sensor. An SWIR photodetector based on QDs in an eye-safe wavelength band of over 1400 nm has been reported. QDs-based SWIR photodetectors can be synthesized and processed through a solution process and have the advantages of low cost and simple processing. However, the organic ligands of QDs have insulating properties that limit their ability to improve the sensitivity and stability of photodetectors. Therefore, the technology to replace organic ligands with inorganic ligands must be developed. In this study, the organic ligand of the synthesized PbS QDs was replaced with a MAPI inorganic ligand, and an SWIR photodetector was fabricated. The analysis of the characteristics of the manufactured photodetector confirmed that the photodetector based on MAPI-capped PbS QDs exhibited up to 26.5% higher responsivity than that based on organic ligand PbS QDs.

  • In order to fraclionate ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$- and ${\gamma}$-cyclodextrins(CDs) from CD reaction mixture, various CD adsorbents were manufactured using fatty acids as the ligand molecules and anion exchange resins as matrix. Among several anion exchange resins, DEAE Cellulose was found to be the most suitable matrix for binding fatty acid. The binding stability between DEAE Cellulose and capric acid was tested under the various operation conditions, such as temperature, ethanol concentration, and ionic strength. Specific CD adsorbents manufactured with different chain-length fatty acids, saturated and unsaturated, were compared in terms of the recovery yield and selectivity of ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$- and ${\gamma}$-CDs. Stearic acid (C18, saturated) was identified as the most effective ligand for fractionation of ${\alpha}$-CD, and linoleic acid ((C18, unsaturated ) for ${\beta}$-CD. The spacer length between the matrix and ligand was required for effective adsorption of CDs, and the double bond in fatty acid molecules was also acted as an important factor determining recovery yield and selectivity. The elusion patterns of ${\alpha}$- and ${\alpha}$-, ${\beta}$-CD from column packed with stearic acid and linoleic acid CD adsorbents were also investigated at the various elusion conditions for fractionation of ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-CD.
