  • The exact expression for the 1151 force on a fuel assembly in a reactor core is derived in terms of calculable hydraulic parameters. The relation for the lift force. pressure drop, buoyancy force, viscous force. and fuel assembly weight is discussed. Based on the derived exact expression. error analysis is made for a simple expression applying COBRA IV-i to a typical PWR fuel assembly. The error analysis revealed that the error of the simple expression consists of four terms and the overall error depends on the flow rate change direction, and its magnitude is about 1%.

  • A numerical method is presented which can solve the steady flow and heat transfer from a rotating and heated circular cylinder in a uniform flow for a range of Reynolds number form 5 to 100. The steady response of the flow and heat transfer is simulated for various spin parameter. The effects on the flow field and heat transfer characteristics known as lift, drag and heat transfer coefficient are analyzed and the streamlines, velocity vectors, vorticity, temperature distributions around it were scrutinized numerically. As spin parameter increases the region of separation vortex becomes smaller than upper one and the lower region will vanish. The lift force, a large part is due to the pressure force, increases as the Reynolds number and it increases linearly as spin parameter increases. The pressure coefficient changes rapidly with spin parameter on the lower surface of the cylinder and the vorticity is sensitive to the spin parameter near separation region. As spin parameter increases the maximum heat coefficient and the thin thermal layer on front region are moved to direction of rotation. However, with balance between the local increase and decrease, the overal heat transfer coefficient is almost unaffected by rotation.

  • In this paper, a finite element analysis technique of rolling stock models for collision-induced derailments was suggested using rolling contacts for wheel-rail interaction. The collision-induced derailments of rolling stock can be categorized into two patterns of wheel-climb and wheel-lift according to the friction direction between wheel flange and rail. The wheel-climb derailment types are classified as Climb-up, Climb/roll-over and Roll-over-C types, and the wheel-lift derailment types as Slip-up, Slip/roll-over and Roll-over-L types. To verify the rolling contact simulations for wheel-rail interaction, dynamic simulations of a single wheelset using Recurdyn of Functionbay and Ls-Dyna of LSTC were performed and compared for the 6-typical derailments. The collision-induced derailment simulation of the finite element model of KHST (Korean High Speed Train) was conducted and verified using the theoretical predictions of a simplified wheel-set model proposed for each derailment type.

  • When a ship is travelling in following seas, the encounter frequency is reduced to be very low. In that case broaching phenomenon is most likely to occur, and it may be due to wave exciting forces acting on ships. It is thought that the wave exciting forces acting on ships in following seas almost consist of two components. One is hydrostatic force due to Froude-Krylov hypothesis, and the other is hydrodynamic lift force due to orbital motion of water particles below the wave surface. In the present paper, the emphasis is laid upon wave exciting sway force, yaw moment and roll moment acting on ships in following seas. The authers take the case that the component of ship speed in the direction of wave propagation is equal to the wave celerity, i.e., the encounter frequency is zero. Hydrostatic force components are calculated by line integral method on Lewis form plane, and hydrodynamic lift components are calculated by lifting surface theory. Furthermore captive model tests are carried out in regular following waves generated by means of a wave making board. Through the comparison between calculated and measured values, it is confirmed that the wave exciting forces acting on ships in following seas can be predicted in terms of present method to a certain extent.

  • This study investigated the heat dissipation characteristics of a heat-sensitive LED. The results of the empirical test showed that the best temperature intensification was found at 90 with 15-fins, and the heatsink installed perpendicular to the direction of the flow of air was directly connected to the air in the largest heat shield area, leading to the best cooling, and the number of fin also resulted increase in the heat discharge area, resulting in the largest cooling action with 15 fins. It was found that the rate of air flow changed in the range of 1.5m/s to 2.5m/s, but only by a deviation of about $2^{\circ}C$ to $3^{\circ}C$ from the current state of 15 fins at 2.5m/s, and the rate of air flow increased, but the performance of the heat release was not significantly increased. As a result wind speed with minimum air flow conditions of 1.5m/s can greatly contribute to the heat dissipation performance.

  • Association rule mining is the method to quantify the relationship between each set of items in a large database. One of the well-studied problems in data mining is exploration for association rules. There are three primary quality measures for association rule, support and confidence and lift. We generate some association rules using confidence. Confidence is the most important measure of these measures, but it is an asymmetric measure and has only positive value. Thus we can face with difficult problems in generation of association rules. In this paper we apply the similarity measures by probabilistic interestingness measure to find a solution to this problem. The comparative studies with support, two confidences, lift, and some similarity measures by probabilistic interestingness measure are shown by numerical example. As the result, we knew that the similarity measures by probabilistic interestingness measure could be seen the degree of association same as confidence. And we could confirm the direction of association because they had the sign of their values.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop design equations to calculate optimum specifications and dimensions such as weight, engine horsepower, etc. of the tractor necessary to perform stable rotary tillage. The main results of this study are as follows. 1. A wheel-lug ought to receive a special resistance in downward direction which resists the lug's upward motion on wet sticky soil surface. The authors introduce a new academic name of the "lift resistance(上昇抵抗力, 상승저항력)" for such a force which resists retraction of a wheel lug from the soil in the upward trochoidal motion. This force is composed of the frictional force acting on the trailing and the leading lug side, and the "perpendicular adhesion(鉛直付着力, 연직부착력)" acting on the lug face and the undertread face on adhesive soil. 2. The "lift resistance ratio(上昇抵抗力係數, 상승저항력계수)" and the "perpendicular adhesion ratio(鉛直付着力係數, 연직부착력계수)" were defined, which are something similar to the definition of the motion resistance ratio, the traction coefficient, etc. 3. The design equation of the optimum weight of a rotary tiller mounted on the tractor derived by calaulating the forces acting on the rotary blades. 4. The design equations to calculate optimum specifications and dimensions such as weight, engine horsepower, etc. of the tractor necessary to perform stable rotary tillage were derived. It becomes clear that the optimum weight of a rotary tiller and a tractor can be estimated in planning design by means of putting about 21 design factors of the target into the equation. These equations are useful for planning design to estimate the optimum dimensions and specifications of a rotary tiller as well as a tractor by the use of known and/or unknown design parameters.

  • A study has been done for self-starting torque of vertical axis wind turbine blade. It is especially concentrated to evaluate the torque coefficient before starting rotation. Two different aerofoils(AMI903 and AMI904) are proposed to benchmark the possible best blade(supercritical airfoil) for self-starting performance. Torque coefficients in the tangential direction of rotation are given with respect to the angle of attack in terms of drag coefficient and lift coefficient. Torque coefficient shows that the effect of Reynolds number is minimal. The thicker blade(AMI904) between two different proposed airfoils has bigger torque coefficient, which is attributed to lower lift coefficient and higher drag coefficient.

  • In this paper, we presented a design and control method of multi-stage with wagon and lift stage. Multi-stage system has 4 degree-of-freedom(DOF), i.e., forward/backward/left/right/rotate and up/down motion. Wagon mechanism in the type of two wheel and steering is proposed in order to improve for the maneuverability compared to the existing differential-type wagons. Also, the lift mechanism is designed by interlocking type in order to make the maximum height bigger than 10 times of the original height. We also proposed a path planning algorithm. The performance of the propped system is validated via multi motion experiments, so that the multi-stage system is useful for various performances production.

  • The experimental study on the lift-off height of diffusion flames was conducted to investigate the damage of swirl-coaxial injector used in $GO_2$/kerosene rocket engine during initial stage of ignition. To investigate the causes of damage and to prevent further damage of the injector, experimental injector was designed and hot fire tests were performed with varying propellant momentum ratio($\frac{Momentum of {GO_2}}{Momentum of Kerosene}$) from 1 to 12. In experimental coaxial injector, kerosene is sprayed from the central nozzle with swirl and $GO_2$ sprayed around the kerosene nozzle in the direction parallel to the axis of combustion chamber. Chamber pressure are close to the atmospheric condition. Lift-off height was measured by still images from camcoder and average values were used as data.
