  • To respond effectively to climate change following the launch of the new climate system, the government is seeking to expand the use of distributed power resources. Among them, the district heating system centered on Combined Heat and Power (CHP) is accepted as the most realistic alternative. On the other hand, the government recently announced the change of energy paradigm focusing on eco-friendly power generation from the base power generation through $8^{th}$ Basic Plan for Long-term Electricity Supply and Demand(BPE). In this study, we analyzed the quantitative effects of profit and loss on the CHP operating business by changing patterns of the heat production, caused by the change of energy paradigm. To do this, the power market long-term simulation was carried out according to the $7^{th}$ and $8^{th}$ BPE respectively, using the commercialized power market integrated analysis program. In addition, the CHP operating model is organized to calculate the power and heat production level for each CHP operation mode by utilizing the operating performance of 830MW class CHP in Seoul metropolitan area. Based on this, the operation optimization is performed for realizing the maximum operating profit and loss during the life-cycle of CHP through the commercialized integrated energy optimization program. As a result, it can be seen that the change of the energy paradigm of the government increased the level of the ordered power supply by Korean Power Exchange(KPX), decreased the cost of the heat production, and increased the operating contribution margin by 90.9 billion won for the 30 years.

  • This study aims to determine whether or not the input output life cycle assessment (I-O LCA) model can be used to assess the carbon dioxide (CO2) emission of buildings in initial planning phase. To ensure this end, this study proposed I-O LCA model which is the simplified LCA model and Hybrid LCA model which is the detailed LCA model, and then assessed and compared the CO2 emission of six case projects (three apartment complexes and three educational facilities) using the two LCA model. The results of the case study showed that the CO2 emissions assessed by the I-O LCA is significantly similar to the CO2 emission assessed by the Hybrid LCA model. The similarity of results from both LCA models was 78.2-86.3% in apartment complexes and 59.9-84.8% in educational facilities. However, the CO2 emissions from I-O LCA model were smaller than the CO2 emissions from Hybrid LCA model in case study. Nevertheless, the case study showed that the I-O LCA model was capable of assessing the CO2 emission of buildings quite appropriately although the I-O LCA model is the simplified LCA model which considers only the construction cost. The I-O LCA model is expected to be a useful tool for assessing the CO2 emission of buildings in initial planning phase.

  • Due to the following reasons, the management of curtain wall parts and material is very Important. Firstly, curtain wall work is one of the main works in High-rise building construction for it takes about $10{\sim}15%$ of the total construction cost. Secondly, the whole process of curtain wall work including manu acture, delivery, storage, installation and maintenance is very complicated and sometimes more than 30 companies involve in the process. Thus there are many control points for curtain wall units. Thirdly, there are not enough space on site for material storage and this situation is more serious for sites in urban area. The purpose of this research is to validate an information systems using RFID technology that is developed to manage the curtain wall units following the process of curtain wall work. For the validation, the cycle times of curtain wall work before and a ter the system was used. The results show that using the systems shorten the cycle time of the curtain wall work. Thus it is concluded that the system can increase the efficiency of managing curtain wall work.

  • In this study, Economic analysis of supercritical coal-fired power plant with $CO_2$ capture process was performed. For this purpose, chemical absorption method using amine solvent, which is commercially available and most suitable for existing thermal power plant, was studied. For the evaluation of the economic analysis of coal-fired power plant with post-combustion $CO_2$ capture process in Korea, energy penalty after $CO_2$ capture was calculated using the power equivalent factor suggested by Bolland et al. And the overnight cost of power plant (or cost of plant construction) and the operation cost reported by the IEA (International Energy Agency) were used. Based on chemical absorption method using a amine solvent and 3.31 GJ/$tonCO_2$ as a regeneration energy in the stripper, the net power efficiency was reduced from 41.0% (without $CO_2$ capture) to 31.6% (with $CO_2$ capture) and the levelized cost of electricity was increased from 45.5 USD/MWh (Reference case, without $CO_2$ capture) to 73.9 USD/MWh (With $CO_2$ capture) and the cost of $CO_2$ avoided was estimated as 41.3 USD/$tonCO_2$.

  • This study proposed a breakdown structure for maintenance and management technologies under the concept of comprehensive asset management at the life cycle level of infrastructure based on benchmarking with other developed countries. For this purpose, a comparative case study was performed to review and analyze the existing definitions and hierarchies for infrastructure maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation (MR&R) systems under major industrialized countries and South Korea. In accordance with the ratio of maintenance costs to GDP, the U.S., U.K, and Japan were selected to review their systems. The classifications and definitions of MR&R technologies under the laws were analyzed. The result showed that most developed countries differentiate maintenance and repair from improvement and constitute a system centered on preventive maintenance activities. On the other hand, Korea's system for facility management is not definitely classified and still focused on reactive structures, which need to be improved. In this study, as proposed, a breakdown structure established the concept of Maintenance and Management, Maintenance & Repair, and Performance Improvement. Consequently, this study could be used as the basis for the implementation of preventive MR&R activities and reasonable resource allocations from an asset management point of view.

  • The domestic CM business market has continued to grow, but its size is relatively small yet in comparison with the total size of the domestic construction industry. Evaluation of CM projects was conducted through questionnaire surveys. Both clients and CM firms showed positive satisfaction levels. Nevertheless, the clients' satisfaction levels were relatively low in safety management, cost management, and document and information management. Superior areas of CM tasks were time management and recovery scheduling, quality control and technical instruction, and design value engineering. On the other hand, inferior areas of CM tasks were claim analysis and dispute resolution, cost estimation, and life cycle costing. Both entities have agreed with the positive effects of CM involvement in terms of cost saving, time reduction, quality improvement, and safety incidents prevention to at least 0~5% extent.

  • Since the Three Dimensional Computer Aided Design(3D CAD) appeared in 1990s, Building Information Modeling(BIM) has got the great issue in the construction project nowadays. BIM is the process of managing and generating building information during life cycle of a construction project. And information can be moved to 3D modeling flexibly in BIM. As a result, a field of estimating has also been doing researches in the calculation of the amount of building materials from 3D modeling. And the Construction Cost Estimating Software which is generally used over the world has been trying to be applied to the Construction project in Korea. But, when we consider the productivity, it is less efficient than the existing way in Korea which use the 2D Drawings when they take off the Quantity. Also, there are lots of difference how to estimate the construction cost. between Korea and the others. Because it is a bit hard to apply the software used in the other countries to the construction project in Korea, people couldn't use it well in the construction project actually. In this study, for developing the appropriate construction cost estimating software rooted in 3D in Korea, we suggest 3D CAD Add-on Program for a Quantity Take-off which can move quantitative information to 3D CAD.

  • Bridges are a key infrastructure that underpins economic and social activities. In Korea, bridges began to be built with economic development in the 1970s and were built intensively in the 1980s and 1990s. In recent years, as the number of bridges with a service life of more than 30 years is increasing, continuous maintenance is required to ensure the safety of the bridges. In particular, in order to cope with the aging of bridges, research on technology development such as maintenance using ICT technology, preventive maintenance, life cycle cost reduction, and long life bridge is being actively promoted. This paper presents the results of correlation analysis based on the safety evaluation data of bridges as part of the research on the development of a model for estimating load-carrying capacity of bridges. As a analysis result, indicators highly correlated with the load-carrying capacity of the bridge was derived.
