An Investigation of Structure and Meaning of Rural Amenity (농촌 어메니티 인식의 구조와 의미)

  • This study aims to examine the structure and meaning of the perception of rural amenity which rural and urban residents have. Many Lickert scaled questions measure how much important the respondents think about the various items related to rural amenity respectively. It reveals that there is not meaningful difference in the relative importance among three upper dimensions composing the construct of rural amenity, historic-cultural dimension, natural environmental dimension and living condition dimension. This means that our respondents are not willing to pursue historic-cultural aspects and natural environmental aspects at the risk of living condition being able to enjoy comfortable and affluent opportunities. And also, this results reveals that people might have a quite different perception compared with academic discourse putting much weight on historic-cultural dimension and natural environmental dimension.

  • This study is intended to analyze the characteristics of the preference according to the locations of view points, which are the current criteria for the evaluation of the view. To this end, a total of fifty one test cases according to view point locations were sampled based on the picture data collected in previous studies, and preference assessment was conducted on these cases to identify preference characteristics, where a five-point Lickert-scale evaluation was performed for each test case, and three test cases for each type were comparatively evaluated. It is deemed that the findings from this study may be used to finally derive qualitative assesment scale for the view seen from apartment units.

Problem-based Learning Experience in Undergraduate Pharmacotherapy Course (학부과정 약물치료학 수업에 문제중심학습의 도입)

  • Purpose: Problem-based learning (PBL) has been adopted to foster active and self-directed learning and enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills in many health-care academic disciplines in Korea. Interest in PBL has rapidly grown with a 6 year pharmacy degree program in Korea. The objective of this study was to evaluate feasibility of PBL, student satisfaction and academic performance with a self-assessment survey questionnaire. Method: Sixty students participated in the PBL for pharmacotherapy course. Average scores from student self-assessment on participation, satisfaction, and academic performance were $3.85{\pm}0.55$, $2.94{\pm}1.04$, $3.09{\pm}0.91$ out of 5 point lickert scale (1-do not agree at all, 5-agree completely), respectively. Results & Conclusion: The level of participation was positively correlated with improvement of communication skill in academic performance (correlation coefficient 0.27, p=0.037). In the quality analysis of the cases provided for PBL, students who participated more in the PBL greatly agreed the cases given were appropriate to learn fundamental knowledge for each disease state. The students disagreed that PBL was fun. The students stated that PBL was good to experience self-directed learning and clinical context beforehand but too time-consuming to devote and too demanding to commit. Lack of facilitator and insight on active learning should be rectified for successful launch of PBL in Korean pharmacy education.

A Strategy for EMS Service Quality Improvement Using Kano Model and Improvement-Gap Analysis (카노모형과 개선갭분석을 이용한 EMS 서비스품질의 전략적 개선방안)

  • Purpose: Express mail service(EMS) supplied by 'Korea POST'is an international postal service which brings letters, documents and parcels to a destination abroad in the fastest and safest way. This service is in a tough competition with global companies such as TNT, FedEx, DHL or UPS. To build an effective strategy for being competitive, an intensive study on EMS service quality should be accomplished from a customer's perspective. Methods: Kano model and improvement gap analysis are used to categorize and prioritize EMS service quality attributes. A 5-point Lickert scale is employed to apply the Kano model and improvement gap analysis. Each quality attribute can be classified as weak in comparison with competitors, critical for improvement, or potentially competitive. Results: Price, on-time delivery and delivery quality are to be kept as is; fast delivery, parking convenience and staff expertise can be potentially competitive; and the other attributes are considered to be critical for improvement. Conclusions: Fast reimbursement and proper compensation when shipping items are lost or damaged are to be improved with high priority. Efforts to secure fast delivery, parking convenience and staff expertise are needed to be competitive in the future.

Knowledge, Perception, Practice and Barriers of Breast Cancer Health Promotion Activities among Community Pharmacists in Two Districts of Selangor State, Malaysia

  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death among women in Malaysia. Despite the campaigns undertaken to raise the awareness of the public regarding breast cancer, breast cancer screening rates are still low in the country. The community pharmacist, as one of the most accessible healthcare practitioners, could play a role in the provision of breast cancer health promotion services to the community. However, there are no documented data regarding the community pharmacists' involvement in breast cancer related health promotion activities. Hence, this study was conducted to examine self-reported knowledge, practice and perception of community pharmacists on provision of breast cancer health promotion services and to investigate the barriers that limit their involvement. This cross-sectional survey conducted between May to September 2010, included a sample of 35 community pharmacists working in the districts of Hulu Langat and Sepang in state of Selangor. A 22-item validated questionnaire that included both closed and Lickert scale questions was used to interview those pharmacists who gave their informed consent to participate in the study. The data was analysed using SPSS. Only 11.3% of the community pharmacists answered all the questions on the knowledge section correctly. The mean overall knowledge of the community pharmacists on risk factors of breast cancer and screening recommendations is 56%. None of the respondents was currently involved in breast cancer health promotion activities. Lack of time (80%), lack of breast cancer educational materials (77.1%) and lack of training (62.9%) were the top three mentioned barriers. Despite these barriers, 94.3% (33) of the community pharmacists agreed that they should be involved in breast cancer health promotion activities. Hence, there is need to equip community pharmacists with necessary training and knowledge to enable them to contribute their share towards prevention and screening of breast cancer.

Instructional Ratings by Professors and College Students (교수와 대학생의 수업평가 결과)

  • We tested the difference and the relationship in instructional ratings by professors and college students. Subjects were 6 professors and 9 college students participated in teaching competition as a rater. They completed instructional rating forms consisted of 10 criteria for 11 participants according to Lickert Scale. Data were analyzed by independent t-test and Pearson correlation. Results were as follows: ① There was no statistical difference in mean scores between the professor and the student; ② Correlation between professors' and students' evaluations was .78 which is statistically meaningful and high. These results support the notion that students evaluate as reliably as professors. They also imply that pre-service college students can be utilized for teaching practice as meaningful peer evaluators. The findings are meaningful in that instructional ratings of instructors and students were compared in a controlled setting. However, replication studies involving wide range of instructors and students are needed for generalization since the subjects in this study were restricted to pre-service teachers and their instructors.

The Employment Retention Propensity and Satisfaction with Competency-based Education of Pharmacy Students Prior to Graduation at Medical Institutions: A Survey-based Study (약학대학 졸업예정자의 고용유지성향과 역량중심교육의 만족도)

  • Background: Recently, the employment retention rate (ERR) of hospital pharmacists has been decreasing and there are difficulties in conducting competency-based education (CBE) for pharmacy students. However, there is limited research on the impact of hospital pharmacists ERR on the quality of CBE. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between the employment retention propensity (ERP) and the satisfaction with CBE of pharmacy students for patient consultation on the safe medication use. Method: A survey study was conducted using survey questionnaires of 5th year pharmacy school students who completed Introductory Pharmacy Practice Education from 2023 to 2024. Students' perceptions of their ERP before graduation and satisfaction with CBE were assessed. This survey questions consisted of a 5-point Lickert scale and multiple-choice questions, expressed as percentages including multiple responses. Results: Among 57 students, 82.5% (n=47) responded. The most important determinant of employment retention was work environment (66.0%), followed by fair salary (59.6%). Compared to the satisfaction with patient consultation education on the safe medication use at tertiary hospitals, the satisfaction at general hospitals was higher (satisfaction: 66.7% at tertiary hospitals versus 80.0% at general hospitals). Overall satisfaction with the quality of CBE over time tended to gradually decline along with a decrease in pharmacists employment retention [satisfaction: 83% in 2019 vs 68% in 2024]. Conclusion: Employment retention was positively related to work environment and salary level. Further research is needed to establish the relationship between students' satisfaction with the CBE and the ERP for the future pharmacists.
