  • Multilingual support of software is necessary for entering global market. 3-tier architecture is a solution for problems of 2-tier architecture. It divides an application into a client-tier and an application-tier, and presentation logic and database are connected by middleware. The advantage of 3-tier architecture is the enhanced performance through load balancing, scalability, easier maintenance and reusability. This paper proposes a multilingual support method that utilizes common resource files for 3-tier enterprise softwares, applies the proposed method to development of multilingual version of billing solution, and verify the usefulness of it. It is easy for development and maintenance of software, the addition of language supported. Proposed method holds a resource file for each language and provides a multilingual support class library. Therefore this method reduces a waste of memory and disk space. Deployment of a class library into an application tier makes development and maintenance of software, the addition of new language supported easy. To avoid inappropriate modification of a resource file, a multilingual support class library is provided in a dll file.

Several things should be considered for practical cataloging manifestation by RDA 2020. First, it is necessary to figure out which among the four recording methods are allowed by the elements of entities. Second, each library should develop its own application profile which specifies the elements be used for the resource description, supports the practical resource description, and makes effective resource description based on minimum description. Third, a template for encoding format could be created based on the application profile. This study will be able to provide practical help when cataloging librarians describe resources with applying RDA 2020.

  • It is the prime importance of the information and the reference-librarians to better understand the communication functions of the library since they are the ones to whom the library users come first with their informational needs. Reference librarians often have the problem of providing information to those who may have little experience with, or interest in the library. There is also a problem of finding out what the person really wants, not what he says he wants. Therefore, the interaction between the librarian and the user involves a highly complex activity of communication with each other even before the actual search begins. Reference librarians cannot perform to any degree of success without comprehension of the general patterns and processes of communication in information seeking. Nonverbal as well as verbal transmittal process on the part of both librarians and patrons should not be overlooked. Some of the difficulties and barriers of library communication are brought so that possible cures and improvement may be sought. The basic purpose of the reference interview through which this interpersonal communication takes place is for the reference specialist to enable to link the needs of the patron with potential resource of the library. The writer firmly believes that this importance of the process be taught as well as the materials in reference service regardless of the level of the course offered in library science department.

  • The purpose of this study is to describe the trends and contents of literature in green library and to suggest the research direction on green library. Earlier studies focus on the green library architecture and necessity, after then green library management studies have proliferated. Green library architecture studies have emphasized on 'energy and atmosphere' and 'indoor environmental quality' based upon 5 categories of LEED evaluation system. Green library management studies have focused on library resources recycling and utilizing energy through effective management of library collection. Based on the analysis of literature, five research directions are suggested, such as the number of libraries in an area, library shelf position and space, library space program, collection ratio for library storage, and user studies.
