The purpose of this study is to propose the expansion of headings for digital trends of Korean Decimal Classification. In order to achieve the purpose, this study first analyzed the change process of classification items related to digital resources in DDC and KDC. Second, subject names related to digital in LCSH and Korean National Library Subject Heading were analyzed. Third, comparisons between the items related to digital of DDC 23rd with LCSH and KDC with Korean National Library Subject Heading were conducted. The result of comparative analysis was identified that KDC 6th edition faces with difficulties in reasonable classification because item names related to digital of KDC 6th edition have 11 items. Therefore, the item related to digital has to be expanded to new classification item name and has to add include notes and class here notes in KDC.

The purposes of this study are to examine the various methods of subject access in the rapidly changing environment and to suggest the future of subject access in National Library of Korea (NLK). First of all, current status and problems of Library of Congress Subject Headings List as an representative subject headings in the world and the ways of improving effectiveness of subject retrieval were dealt with. As the ways of improving subject access, social bookmarking, folksonomy, tagging, facet applications, automatic assignment of keyword, thesauri, classification system, and auto-assigned search box were suggested. Finally, current status of NLK subject headings and the ways of improving for utilization of the subject headings as subject access were provided.

The U.S. Library of Congress proposal to change the subject heading of Tok Island(in Korea called Dokdo) to Liancourt Rocks was controversial. Therefore the status of Dokdo, national notation(Dokdo or Tokdo), and international notation used to identify the island were examined. In this examination, Tok Island's classification in the Korea Decimal Classification(KDC), Library of Congress Classification(LCC), and Nippon Decimal Classification(NDC) were compared and analysed, and a proposal for the role of libraries in the future was given.

The purpose of this study is to explore usefulness of the Library of Congress Subject Headings(LCSH)for librarians as an information access point. Sixty four librarians at the University of Washington(UW)and 67 librarians from the Council on East Asian Libraries(CEAL) participated through web surveys about LCSH and 9 librarians from UW and 10 librarians from CEAL joined in-depth interviews and e-mail correspondences. It was concluded that LCSH was very useful for finding other related materials as a subject access point. However, there were two necessary improvements recommended for the LCSH. First of all, in aspect of terminology, subject headings should be more familiar to the public with currency and show clear definitions and relationships. Second, with regard to the structure of LCSH, it should have simplicity, ease of use, and consistency when using combinations of subject headings. Since many other countries are using or adapting LCSH, its effect can be very strong. Therefore, the meaning of "Tok Island (Korea)" as well as diplomatic and scholarly efforts with sensing movements of other countries.
