  • Quality of a new system is closly related to the quality of components in reuse repository. Quality assessment is essential to construct a reuse library. Definition of quality and method of assessment are totally different in reuse environments. User interface, functionality, performance are main factor in non-reuse development environment. However, reuse environment needs more reusability, extensibility, generality, and maintainability in quality assessment. This paper describes a development of quality assessment tool for multimedia object reuse conponents. Tool gets reuse components described by C++ or IDL, and analyses style, structure, coupling, strength, complexity, understandability, etc. Ultimatly the tool generate quality satisfaction degree for reuse programmers. Quality assessment services are supported in distributed object architecture, CORBA.

  • CDLIB system, a CD-ROM network system constructed in the KTRC, made all the users connected with KTRC TRAN share the many CD-ROM drives and the massive information on the CD-ROM discs. The system is composed of CD-ROM network server, file server and the software which allows the users to retrieve CD-ROM discs through the network. This system has the following strong points : cost-effectiveness in the aspect of sharing the CD-ROM resources in the LAN environment and high system performance.

  • Before the Internet was available, most application programs were executed using terminals, connected to host computers, as standard input output devices. The Internet is popular today and many services are provided on web browsers connected to the Internet. Since the standard I/O method used for terminals is different from the communication I/O methods used for web browsers, it is not possible to execute many application programs developed for the conventional terminals on web browsers. In this paper, we describe Web Input Output(WEBIO) library that enables application programs conventional on terminals to be executed on web browsers by recompilation without source modification. The WEBIO libraries for C and Prolog languages have been developed and they are under test now.

  • This research uses a new approach to analyze the extent of influence journal papers have on the progress of varied research fields by estimation of subject-based influence on research other than impact factor that relies on citation index. It is initiated with the hypothesis that earlier established citation relations between journal and citing paper, which reveals the research field that contains the highest citation index and hence has received the greatest contribution from a particular journal, would have inconsistent contribution to the research field over the year of journal publication. The target research is primarily 128 journal papers and 4,123 citing papers from Information Systems Research published in the years 2001, 2004, 2007, and 2010. The characteristics of citation history and hallmarks of research field of citing papers were studied and analysis on significant distinction between citing fields based on the year of publication was performed. The analysis results show the order of citation rate to be highest from Computer Science (2,221 cases), Business & Economics (2,191 cases), and Information Science & Library Science (1,901 cases). The citation history of the journal, nonetheless, indicates increase in citation during 2-3 years after the earliest publication till it achieves constant citation. The statistical analysis shows significant variation in citing fields in accordance with the publication year; especially in 2010, journal contribution has increased in the fields of Business & Economics, Operations Research & Management Science, and Health Care Sciences & Services but, however, is reduced in Education & Educational Research and Social Sciences - Other Topics.

  • The additional mechanism is required to set up a secure connection among the communication subjects in the internet environment. Each entity should transfer and receive the encrypted and hashed data to guarantee the data integrity. Also, the mutual authentication procedure should be processed using a secure communication protocol. Although the OpenSSL which implements the TLS is using by many developers and its stability and performance are proved, it has a difficulty in using because of its large size. So, this paper designs and implements the secure communication which the users can use easily by modification works of OpenSSL library API. We proved the real application results using the client/server case which supports a secure communication using the implemented API.

  • The web-based project is seriously not efficient area at software engineering. In order to develop a web-based system, UI(User Interface) designers usually first design display layout and then business logic developers bring to complete the coding of the display layout source. In the case of maintenance, it goes through the same process, This kinds of web-based software development method were proposed by the various methods same as the tag library of JSP, But there are many problems to apply them and they are low productive comparing to the CIS based software development method, WFS(Neb Form System), which is suggested on this thesis, separates UI design from business logic on a web project and offers the better environment to develop web based software, Eventually WFS will improve the productivity to develop web based software.

  • Database of journals/books are categorized into bibliographic database and clearinghouse-type databases which tell you locations of original materials. There is such a problem in the latter type of databases that those are not likely to be commercialized, although ultimate purpose which users have is to obtain original materials. We find photocopying service through on-line or full-text databases currently available, but we can't get information which meets our needs only by those databases. This paper describes major database services and how to use them by document type(journal or book). The author also discusses what future information centers utilizing databases should be.

  • This study aims to understand the information needs of Korean immigrant mothers in the United States for their high school children's college preparation. A content analysis was conducted for the messages posted to a "motherhood" forum on the MissyUSA website. In total, 754 posts were analyzed in terms of a child's grade, college preparation stage, type of post, and topic of post. The study found that there is a range of information needed at different stages in a child's education. Many of the demonstrated information needs showed similarities to those of other immigrant groups, but there were also community-specific themes, such as an emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and standardized tests. The forum was mainly used for factual questions, not emotional support. We concluded that the findings of the study would help researchers in understanding immigrant information needs for the college application process and how information professionals and educators could combine the needs of different ethnic groups to create customized services for them.

  • The recognition of public libraries as development partners places an onus on public libraries to provide services that will enhance national integration and development. Whereas libraries have been known to provide information resources in various formats, recent developments around the world have shown that it is no longer enough to provide information to users. Users are being encouraged to become knowledge producers and not just consumers. In this regard, libraries are rethinking their strategies. One of the consequences of this, is the creation of makerspaces: a space for creating things within the library. This paper explores the prospects of makerspaces in Nigerian public libraries. The paper identified how makerspaces could lead to national development by providing access to technology, providing opportunity for users to work together thereby promoting unity and togetherness among the citizenry of a given society as well as providing an enabling environment for people to be creative. The paper argued that makerspaces in Nigerian public libraries will lead to increased patronage and users' satisfaction, change in perception of librarians by the public, promote synergy among citizens and result in economic development.

  • The study was a descriptive cross-sectional survey which investigated the reading preferences of secondary school students in Nigeria during the lockdown occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic. A hundred secondary school students in Ile- Ife and Ilesa in Osun State, Nigeria were the study respondents. Close ended self-administered questionnaire was used to obtain data. Of the one hundred questionnaire which were applied to the study respondents, ninety-three were retrieved. Data obtained were analyzed using simple frequencies and percentages. The study established that majority of respondents were not pressured to read but read for pleasure. Preference for a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books which was read for purposes ranging from academic, social, relaxation and information was indicated by respondents. Availability of reading materials determined reading preference of majority of respondents as many could not afford to access electronic books whether free or not. The researchers recommended that different types of reading materials that suit the reading preferences and meet the diverse purpose of reading should be provided for the secondary school students during lockdown to improve their reading habits. Public libraries should function during this lock down period within the guidelines of the appropriate health authorities, while school libraries should be equipped to offer virtual services during the lockdown and the students should be exposed to e-books for their reading pleasure.
