  • As instances of private information leak increase, taking steps to protect such information becomes a necessity. In this study of public library patrons, we strove for a comprehensive understanding of library usage records to suggest viable solutions for private information safety in public libraries. To this end, we investigated the patrons' understanding of library usage records and determined the relationship between different user characteristics and privacy knowledge or leaks. The results show that a high number of patrons perceived these records as their own private information, but that there was no necessity for legal procedures or consent for the use of these records. Also, even though the understanding of these usage records showed that there was a relationship between the frequency of library visits and leaks of personal information, the correlation was not particularly strong.

In addition, the bibliographic records of 167 samples of visible 'light & paraphotic' (DDC 535) classifications were selected from the bibliographic records of the library of C university, and the effectiveness of the Open APIs were compared and analyzed. On the basis of the results of this analysis, 12 Open API application models, which were judged to be useful in expanding the function of the access point of the bibliographic records and enhancing the library catalog using Open API, were experimentally implemented. Various methods of augmenting access points of bibliographic records and expanded library catalogue were investigated using the unique identifier described in the KORMARC fields of 001, 010, 012, 020, 035, 246, 505, 520, 850, 856 for the integrated format for bibliographic data, and Open API. Finally, using Open API for the brief display and detailed display screen as a result of search of the OPAC of the sample bibliographic records, the devices for the expanding library catalog were implemented as examples.

  • This article delves into community archives based on the archival project of Dongjak-gu Public Library on the search toward sustainability. Dongjak-gu has conducted a local archiving project that involves collecting local records, focusing on the role of local public institutions as representative districts in the local region after the library was established in September 2013. Thus far, we are managing the project and records that are piled at the public library, and as the placement for archiving local records conducted in a local public library does not match its role, the national/city/province system for archiving local records faces a challenge for long-term sustainability. Therefore, we would like to present an idea for sustainability by discussing our concerns and experiences in this paper.

  • Social networking services that connect a person to other people are attracting our attention and various types of on-the-network services are provided. Library has been playing a role of social media by providing with materials such as books and magazines, and with a place for reading, studying, getting lectures, etc. In this paper, we present a method for finding candidates of groups of the library's patrons who share interest areas by utilizing the loan records, which are obtainable by every library. Such a homogeneous group can become a candidate for a study group, a community for exchange ideas, and other activity group. We apply the method to a collection of loan records of a university library, find some problem to be solved, and propose measures for more detailed solutions. Even though the potential group finding problem still remains a lot of problems to be solved, its potential importance is very high and thus to be studies even more for future applications.
