The ideas of user oriented service wasn't a major issue in libraries in the past decade. However, from now on, our library visitors have choices in the book selection processes, and the library may not be the first choice for their information demands. Competitors such as museum, culture center, and even private reading academy are those who anticipate user demands and satisfy them before the librarians do. What may have been perceived as excellent service a few years ago is not acceptable today anymore in the library. This study reveals current situation of English library collection and their practice as a sound English learning tool for Korean students. The researcher introduces library Marketing Concept and Reading Programs as an effective management tool.

In this paper, I presented that transformation of library from the collection management to knowledge contents management along with paradigm shift under the web-based multimedia information environment is required. Effective web contents management call maximize users'satisfaction with personal customizing services for library users. Especially, contents customizing service using the metabrowsing service contributes to maximize the user'satisfaction by supplying core contents that the user seeks. In this paper, I studied the scheme of knowledge contents management to increase of user'satisfaction, concentrating on the management factors of web-based multimedia knowledge contents and service strategy.

This paper focuses generally on the ‘fourteen principles of management’ by Henri Fayol. However, it specifically analyses their application to and implications for libraries and information centres. An extensive review of published works on management generally, and library management in particular, was conducted. This yielded vital insights on the original meaning and later modifications of these principles, as well as their application in the management of various organisations. Consequently, the strengths and weaknesses of these principles were examined to determine their suitability in libraries and information centres. Inferences, illustrations, and examples were drawn from both developed and developing countries which gives the paper a global perspective. Based on available literature, it was concluded that Fayol’s principles of management are as relevant to libraries as they are in other organisations. The paper, therefore, recommends that in addition to modifying some aspects to make these principles more responsive to the peculiar needs of libraries, further research should be undertaken to expand the breadth of these principles and ascertain their impacts on the management of information organisations.

This research tries to develop standards of library goods and managerial guidance. It is developed to make buying and managing library goods efficient in promoting environmental and digital-friendly library, and to set a standard guidance of library goods. The research divides 117 library goods into 6 categories, and develops a table of recommended standard and managerial guidance of library goods. The table has 11 indicators of information, which includes the name of each library goods, classification code, identification number of 'Narajangteo', definitions of the goods, purpose and usage, type and size, structure, place to install, goods management, and note. The research hopes to be reflected in library related laws, standards, and manuals, and finally to standardize library goods in the national level.

The categorization of libraries into several types supports an understanding of the concept of library and also provides a framework for the practice of library management, such as planning and management. Although a 4-type categorization with public, academic, special, and school libraries is the most traditional and general approach to categorization, the definition of each type has been set enumeratively and inductively, so that it has weaknesses in its clarity between categories and in its applicability to a new environment. In this conceptual paper, deductive and analytical criteria for the 4-type categorization are suggested based on characteristics of information needs. Implications of the suggestions about library management, and especially, the meaning and impact of stakeholders on library management are discussed. Additionally, this paper attempts to put forth a conceptual link between library and information.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the trend and performances of contracting out the management of public libraries in Korea, in order to help promote the effectiveness and efficiencies of their operations. In this research, Investigated in detail are the following issues: First, the need for and background of contracting out public library services and their present state in Korea; Second, the pros and cons of contracting out public library services; and finally, based on the aforementioned findings, a future model of 'contracting out' public library services is proposed in order to further the effective management of public libraries in Korea.

The purpose of this paper is to find out the present status of public library management. The assumptions on which this research is based are that there are differences between th theories taught at the educational institutions for librarians and the practices actually managed at libraries, and that the differences are greater in Korea than those in the United States of America as the former has a shorter library history and is a more bureaucratic society. The data were collected were collected through the questionnaires sent to fifty-five public library managers in Taegu and Kyungpook province. Forty-two respondents replied, making the returned rate of 76.4%. The results show that there exist some differences between theories and practices, but they are not so great as expected. It was found out that there is a difference between what the theorists state and what the practicing managers accept. It was also found out that the library managers agree that the new management theories and techniques can be adopted to their libraries. The hindering factors are found out, and based on the findings, a few suggestions are provided.

This study proposed two improved models, depending on each central axis of local library policies, to improve the management of the metropolitan library committee which should play an important role in pursing the policies. The model of draft 1 suggested that the metropolitan library committees' library policy deliberative functions be reinforced for pursuing metropolitan library policies, around the department of library policy in each central office. The model of draft 2 suggested that the metropolitan library committees play a role in the policy governance, in pursuing the metropolitan representative libraries-based local library policies. In order to efficiently pursue the proposed improvements of the management of the metropolitan library committees, the functions of the metropolitan library committees and each status of the chairmen and the vice chairmen, which are stipulated by 「Library Act」 need to be elevated, according to the draft 2. Then a local laws and regulations (draft) was proposed to stipulate matters concerning the management of metropolitan library committees by metropolitan municipalities, based on the local laws and regulations.

Statistics items required by National Library Statistics System are based on data for library evaluation and policy making of library management from a theoretical standpoint. However, It is realized there are differences between Statistics items required by National Library Statistics System and those can be collected at the field of public libraries. In accordance with this point, this paper contained an analysis of a working diary log of public libraries as a basic material able to collect data at the field of public libraries and also surveyed the present usage situation of Library Management Program able to automatically collect data to recognize that National Library Statistics is reliably or validly objective data. An analysis data of this research will be a basic material to plan the standard guide of a working diary log of public libraries from now on.

This study tried to provide users with customized services by applying the CRM theory of the MyLibrary functions of the academic library system. The first data were collected through documentary survey and homepage survey, and case study of domestic and overseas college libraries was performed and 3 systems among academic library systems were selected to conduct a survey with their librarians and users of the academic libraries. It was found that librarians in charge of each function of services didn't much utilize information data of users created in the MyLibrary functions. As for an improvement method, it was suggested that systematic management to raise recognition on CRM and utilize it as feedback data is required in order to provide high quality services as well as customized information services to users based on data created in MyLibrary.
