  • The purpose of this study is to provide self-evaluation indicators that each school could judge on its basic conditions for the school library opening to local community. School library opening to local community is one of the significantly operational strategies to contribute to the development of the learning community. But the school library has insufficient resources and support system for their local services. According to the survey teacher librarians who have the experience for their school library opening to local community have considered of deploying teacher librarian as the most important factor. And they asserted emphatically that school library would secure personnel expenses and obtain facilities and resources to provide the stable and systematic service. Also among the school library's educational activities, reading education is considered the most suitable program for the community.

  • Academic research libraries are seeking a long-term preservation plan for journals for cost-effective stewardship. The emergence of shared print archives has given the library community the opportunity to resolve the problem of the lack of library storage and build a collaborative long-term archiving plan for the print journals. The purpose of this study is to examine Western Regional Storage Trust(WEST), the largest print journal archiving program in North America, and identify their strategies for building a distributed, retrospective print repository service for journals. Based on the analysis, this article will discuss the development of new trends of collaborative library management in a digital age.

  • The National Library for the Disabled was upgraded to a primary affiliated organization of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on June 4, 2020, in accordance with Article 24 (1) of the Library Act (Law No. 16685). The National Library for the Disabled is currently preparing to build an independent library building. Now that the National Library for the Disabled has secured its independent legal status, it must become a specialized national library by comprehensively collecting not only alternative materials for the disabled, but also domestic and foreign materials useful to researchers related to the disabled. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to conduct basic research for comprehensive and strategic collection of library materials for people with disabilities, which is an essential part of the statutory work of the National Library for the Disabled. To this end, the concept and category of library materials for the disabled that are expected to be useful for satisfying the intellectual needs of the disabled and for education and research related to the disabled were established targeting knowledge information resources produced and distributed domestically and internationally. Next, based on the current collection development policy of the National Library for the Disabled, an implementation strategy and mid to long term roadmap for comprehensively collecting library materials were presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the establishment and administrative strategies for shared repositories for academic libraries in Korea, using the US ReCAP (Research Collections and Preservation Consortium) Project as a case study. The US ReCAP Project was a collaboration between the New York Public Library and the university libraries of Columbia University, Harvard University, and Princeton University. In-depth interviews were conducted with librarians and administrators in charge of the ReCAP Project to understand the original vision of the project, as well as how the strategy and approach evolved over the years. The analysis results revealed that shared repositories for libraries have evolved into shared collections enabling shared use. But shared repositories require a central management system to be successful in the long-term. Additionally, findings showed that the shared repository filled more quickly than anticipated. This in turn required collaborative planning on shared collection development and selection policies to determine which materials to send to the shared repository.

  • University books are an important information resource. University book resources can be shared not only in the traditional paper form, but also electronic form under the background of the Internet. In order to better manage the sharing of electronic book resources in universities, this study put forward three resource sharing strategies: centralized sharing strategy, distributed sharing strategy, and centralized-distributed sharing strategy by analyzing the combined development of books and the Internet as well as the significance and development of book resource sharing. The centralized sharing strategy, however simple, was difficult to handle large traffic; while the resource nodes were independent and self-consistent, the distributed sharing strategy was not easy to find and had a high repetition rate. Combining the advantages of both strategies, the centralized-distributed sharing strategy was more suitable for the heterogeneous form of university book sharing. Finally, a teaching resources sharing platform for university libraries was designed based on the strategy of centralized and distributed sharing, and three interfaces including platform login, resource search, and resource release were displayed. The results of the simulated comparison experiment showed that centralized and distributed sharing strategies had limitations in resource searching and had low efficiencies; the efficiency of the centralized strategy reduced with an increase in search subjects; however, the centralized-distributed sharing strategy was able to search more resources efficiently and main stability.
