This paper proposes a collision prevention system for an agricultural unmanned helicopter. The collision prevention system consists of an obstacle detection system, a mapping algorithm, and a collision avoidance algorithm. The obstacle detection system based on a LiDAR sensor is implemented in the unmanned helicopter and acquires distance information of obstacles in real-time. Then, an obstacle mapping is carried out by combining the distance to the obstacles with attitude/location data of the unmanned helicopter. In order to prevent a collision, alert is activated to an operator based on the map when the vehicle approaches to the obstacles. Moreover, the developed collision prevention system is verified through flight test simulating a flight pattern aerial spraying.

In this paper, we propose a method to extract the features of five sensor-only facilities built as infrastructure for autonomous cooperative driving, which are from point cloud data acquired by LiDAR. In the case of image acquisition sensors installed in autonomous vehicles, the acquisition data is inconsistent due to the climatic environment and camera characteristics, so LiDAR sensor was applied to replace them. In addition, high-intensity reflectors were designed and attached to each facility to make it easier to distinguish it from other existing facilities with LiDAR. From the five sensor-only facilities developed and the point cloud data acquired by the data acquisition system, feature points were extracted based on the average reflective intensity of the high-intensity reflective paper attached to the facility, clustered by the DBSCAN method, and changed to two-dimensional coordinates by a projection method. The features of the facility at each distance consist of three-dimensional point coordinates, two-dimensional projected coordinates, and reflection intensity, and will be used as training data for a model for facility recognition to be developed in the future.

Agriculture in South Korea is losing productivity due to the lack of manpower as aging population increases. To overcome this, the agricultural robot market is growing rapidly, and research is being conducted on remote control and autonomous driving of agricultural robots. This work designs the appearance and structure of agricultural robots and implements the devices and control systems for driving. By utilizing and optimizing LiDAR sensors, we applied object recognition technology, which is an essential function for autonomous driving. This can reduce labor costs and improve productivity of transportation tasks that require the most labor in agriculture.
Laser scanning is a new technology for obtaining Digital Surface Models(DSM) of the earth surface. It is a fast method for sampling the earth surface with high density and high point accuracy. This paper is for buildings extraction from LiDAR points data. The core part of building construction is based on a parameters filter for distinguishing between terrain and non-terrain laser points. The 3D geometrical properties of the building facades are obtained based on plane fitting using least-squares adjustment. The reconstruction part of the procedure is based on the adjacency among the roof facades. Primitive extraction and facade intersections are used for building reconstruction. For overcome the difficulty just reconstruct of laser points data used with digital camera images. Also, 3D buildings of city area reconstructed using digital map. Finally, In this paper show 3D building Modeling using digital map and LiDAR data.

The optimal shipping location is determined by measuring the volume and weights of cargo shipped to non-standard cargo carriers. Currently, workers manually measure cargo volume, but automate it to improve work inefficiency. In this paper, we proposed the method of a real-time volume calculation using LiDar sensor for automating cargo measurement of non-standard cargo. For this purpose, we utilized the statistical techniques for data preprocessing and volume calculation, also used Voxel Grid filter to light weighted of data which are appropriate in real-time calculation. We implemented the function of Normal vectors and Triangle Mesh to generate surfaces and Alpha Shapes algorithms to process 3D modeling.

This study investigated the effect of the shape and height of road signs on detection performance when detecting road signs with LiDAR, which is recognized as an essential sensor for autonomous vehicles. For the study, four types of road signs with the same area and material and different shapes were produced, and a road driving test was performed by installing a 32Ch rotating LiDAR on the upper part of the vehicle. As a result of comparing the shape of the point cloud and the NPC according to the shape of the road sign, It is expected that a distance of less than 40m is required to recognize the overall shape of a road sign using 32Ch LiDAR, and shapes such as triangles and rectangles are more advantageous than squares in securing the maximum point cloud from a long distance. As a result of the study according to the height of the road sign, At short distances (within 20m), if the height of the sign is raised to more than 2m, it deviates from the vertical viewing angle of the LiDAR and cannot express the complete point cloud shape. However, it showed a negligible effect compared to the near-field height change. These research results are expected to be utilized in the development of road facilities dedicated to LiDAR for the commercialization of autonomous cooperative driving technology.
In this study, a small autonomous driving robot was developed for underground mines using the Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor. The developed robot measures the distances to the left and right wall surfaces using the LiDAR sensor, and automatically controls its steering to drive along the centerline of mine tunnel. A field experiment was conducted in an underground amethyst mine to test the driving performance of developed robot. During five repeated driving tests, the robot showed stable driving performance overall. There were no collision accidents with the wall of mine tunnel.
Recently the necessity of road data is still being increased in industrial society, so there are many repairing and new constructions of roads at many areas. According to the development of government, city and region, the update and acquisition of road data for GIS (Geographical Information System) is very necessary. In this study, the fusion method with range data(3D Ground Coordinate System Data) and Intensity data in stand alone LiDAR data is used for road extraction and then digital image processing method is applicable. Up to date Intensity data of LiDAR is being studied. This study shows the possibility method for road extraction using Intensity data. Intensity and Range data are acquired at the same time. Therefore LiDAR does not have problems of multi-sensor data fusion method. Also the advantage of intensity data is already geocoded, same scale of real world and can make ortho-photo. Lastly, analysis of quantitative and quality is showed with extracted road image which compare with I: 1,000 digital map.

Backpack-mounted mapping system is firstly introduced for flexible movement in indoor spaces where satellite-based localization is not available. With the achieved advances in miniaturization and weight reduction, use of LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensors in mobile platforms has been increasing, and indeed, they have provided high-precision information on indoor environments and their surroundings. Previous research on the development of backpack-mounted mapping systems, has concentrated mostly on the improvement of data processing methods or algorithms, whereas practical system components have been determined empirically. Thus, in the present study, a simulator for a LiDAR sensor (Velodyne VLP-16), was developed for comparison of the effects of diverse conditions on the backpack system and its operation. The simulated data was analyzed by visual inspection and comparison of the data sets' statistics, which differed according to the LiDAR arrangement and moving speed. Also, the data was used as input to a point-cloud registration algorithm, ICP (Iterative Closest Point), to validate its applicability as pre-analysis data. In fact, the results indicated centimeter-level accuracy, thus demonstrating the potentials of simulation data to be utilized as a tool for performance comparison of pointdata processing methods.
