  • Most of the naval shipboard equipments strongly require isolation devices to keep their performance and durability from severe noise and vibration loading. The rubber mount is well-known as one of most effective way to isolate major equipments from noise and vibration. The performance of the rubber mount is determined by characteristics of shock stiffness and vibration stiffness and the frequency range of interest is up to several Kilo Hz in navy vessels. In this study, an vibration experiment method for the rubber mount has been developed as a foundation work for assessing dynamic stiffness up to high frequency. Also experiments for a typical rubber mount has been carried out and the results has been discussed.

  • The present study is of ultra-fine structure of Cryptococcus neoformans by means of electron microscopy and reveals the following : 1) In constrast to the bacteria, the normal Cryptococcus neofrmans contains nuclear enveloped with nuclear menbrane, mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, distinct cell wall and cell membrane, vacuoles and storage granules as observed in the eucaryotic cells. 2) In apparent cell walls and cell membrane with the appearance of electron transparent area (ETA) and changes of cell morphology were observed in the ultra-violet ray irradiated cell. 2) In apparent cell walls and cell membrance with the appreance of electron transparent area (ETA) and changes of cell morphology were observed in the ultra-violet ray irradiated cell. 3) Morphology changes and cytoplasmic element abnormality was increased with irradiated time. 4) Increase of electron transparent area was thought to be associated with degradation of cell.

  • As a typoon gets into harbour, a moored ships shows erratic motions and even mooring line failures is occurred. Such troubles may be caused by harbour resonance phenomena, result in large motion amplitudes at law frequency, which is closed to the natural frequency of the moored ship. The nonlinear motions of a moored ship beside quay are simulated under external forces due to wave, current including mooring forces in time domain. The forces due to waves are obtained from source and dipole distribution method in the frequency domain. The current forces are calculated by using slow motion maneuvering equation in the horizontal plane. The wind forces are calculated from emperical formula of ABS and the mooring forces of ropes and fenders are modeled as linear spring.

  • Fibrous dysplasia (FD) is a rare, benign bone disease with abnormal bone maturation and fibroblastic proliferation. Optimal treatment of zone 1 craniofacial FD is radical resection and reconstruction. To achieve of structural, aesthetic, and functional goals, we use three-dimensionally designed calvarial bone graft for reconstruction of zygomatic defect after radical resection of FD. The authors used a rapid-prototyping model for simulation surgery for radical resection and immediate reconstruction. Donor site was selected from parietal bone reflect shape, contour, and size of defect. Then radical resection of lesion and immediate reconstruction was performed as planned. Outcomes were assessed using clinical photographs and computed tomography scans. Successful reconstruction after radical resection was achieved by three-dimensional calvarial bone graft without complications. After a 12-month follow-up, sufficient bone thickness and symmetric soft tissue contour was well-maintained. By considering three-dimensional configuration of zygomaticomaxillary complex, the authors achieved satisfactory structural, aesthetic and functional outcomes without complications.

  • These studies were carried out to detect the presence of infected virus- like particles and also were observed the ultrastructures of Aspergillus ochraseus isolated from kokja and Korean ginseng. The results of ultrastructures of Aspergillus ochraseus are summarized as follows: 1. In fungal cells, nuclei were enclosed by a irregular double membrane and nucleoli in the nucleus. 2. In cytoplasm, mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum with ribosomes and glycogen were scattering distributed and many lomasomes also observed. 3. The osmiophilic bodies of fungal cells existed in the vesicles. 4. The cell walls were composed of a low electron dense materials. 5, Conidia cell walls were extremely thick and possessed the high electron density of outer coat. The virus-like particles were observed in the hyphae of Penicillium chrysogenum Q-176. These virus-like particles measured $350{\AA}$ in diameter. But strains of Aspergillus ochraseus, showing some vesicle particles were also observed about $800{\AA}$ in diameter in the central region of young fungal hyphae. Based on the results of these experiments, it can not be determined virus particles or not. The further studies to determination of virus particles will be proceeded by the chemical, physical and biological assay methods.

  • Marine risk assessment considers events such as collision/grounding, sinking/capsize, fire/explosion and flooding, developing relationships between their causes and effects. In addition, risk assessment of previously sunken ships are also necessary since they continuously have possibility for further oil spill or can cause other marine accidents. The objective of this paper is to develop the risk assessment systems for sunken ships to prevent oil spill and further marine causalities in order to preserve safe and clean oceans around Korea peninsula. The risk assessment systems for sunken ships comprise of database management sub-system for sunken ships, qualitative risk assessment sub-system, quantitative risk assessment sub-system, and cost-benefit analysis subsystem.

  • Amiodarone is an effective antiarrhythmic agent because of its vasodilator actions. Nowadays it is mostly used to treat patients with severe cardiomyopathy or coronary artery disease complicated by disturbances in the supraventricular or ventricular rhythm. But, some doctors are reluctant to prescribe it because of its many side effects. These include impairment of liver and thyroid fuction and, rarely, damage to the lungs. Most of all, its most serious side effect is amiodarone-induced pulmonary toxicity, which can occur in up to 10% of patients, with mortality rates as high as 50%. We recently experienced one case of the patient with the Amiodarone-induced pulmonary toxicity. The clinical manifestations of the patient was cough, painful breathing, fever, presence of rales, decreased breath sounds, and sputum. We report the change of the patient's symptoms through both western medical treatment and oriental medical treatment.

  • A Mobile Harbor is a new transportation platform which can load and unload has containers to and from very large container ships on the sea. Currently designed Mobile Harbor a catamaran type which is equipped with precisely controlled gantry crane on the deck, and can transport 250 TEUs at a time. Loading and unloading works by crane require very small motion of Mobile Harbor in waves, because it may be operated outside of harbors. In this project, applicability of both tuned-type anti-rolling tank and maglev-type active mass driver is studied as anti-rolling systems.

  • Objectives: This study examined the effects of Gamisachil-tang on an anorexic patient with depression. Methods: A patient suffering from anorexia and depression was treated with Korean herbal medicine (Gamisachil-tang) for 14 days. To evaluate the therapeutic effect, we measured the daily food intake of the patient and used the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) for anorexia. Results: Following treatment, both the patient's daily food intake of the patient and VAS score for anorexia had improved. Conclusion: These results suggest that Gamisachil-tang has a beneficial effect on both anorexia and depression.

  • Robot-assisted surgery is evolving to incorporate a higher number of minimally invasive techniques. There is a growing interest in robotic breast reconstruction that uses autologous tissue. Since a traditional latissimus dorsi (LD) flap leads to a long donor scar, which can be an unpleasant burden to patients, there have been many attempts to decrease the scar length using minimally invasive approaches. This study presents the case of a patient who underwent a robot-assisted nipple-sparing mastectomy followed by immediate breast reconstruction with an LD flap using a single-port robotic surgery system. With the assistance of a single-port robot, a simple docking process using a short and less visible incision is possible. Compared to multiport surgery systems, single-port robots can reduce the possibility of collision between robotic arms and provide a clear view of the medial border of the LD where the curvature of the back restricts the visual field. We recommend the use of single-port robots as a minimally invasive approach for harvesting LD flaps.
