  • Technology assessment has drawn enormous amounts of various attention as well as participation mostly in industrialized countries. This paper deals with the implications of technology assessment especially in newly developed countries. Firstly, definition and present status of technology assessment are depicted. Secondly, methodology of technology assessment is reviewed in detail at two different levels; one is the methodology at procedural or epistemological level and the other is the methodology at specific or particular level. Finally, policy recommendations and suggestion concerned with the activity of technology assessment in Korea are presented.

  • In this paper, we present a new SVPWM strategy for a 3-level inverter. This SVPWM method is easily implemented without switching table like SVPWM. In addition, with proposed method, we can also keep the voltage balancing of DC-link capacitors and guarantee minimum on/off time of the devices. The principle of the proposed SVPWM method is described in detail, and its implementation method is also proposed. The usefulness of the proposed SVPWM method is verified through the simulation using MATLAB/Simulink.

  • This paper presents performance analysis of the embedded application, called EEMBC consisting of 5 categories and total 34 applications. We measured various performance metrics, such as code sizes, TLP(Thread Level Parallelism) using OpenMP API and ILP(Instruction Level Parallelism) on ARM-modeled SimpleScalar in detail. We show that the embedded applications have the similar characteristics as integer applications to deliver low ILP and TLP in our environment. They have many small loops, which result in large instruction overhead in TLP and loop control overhead in ILP.

  • The conversion of mechanical energy into electrical energy at nanoscale using piezoelectric nanowire arrays has been in detail shown by deflection of nanowires. Recently it has performed an analytical model, both at classical and at quantum level, for describing the most important quantities concerning transport phenomena; the model predicts interesting peculiarities, as high initial charge diffusion in nanodevices constituting by nanowires and permits also in particular to deduce interesting informations about the devices sensitivity, focusing on the correlation between sensitivity and high initial diffusivity of these materials at nanometric level.

  • The objective of this study is to identify whether or not the ground water level is decreasing. We suggest a method of estimating the change in groundwater level using newly developed groundwater pumping station data. The Goseong area located in Gyeongnam province was selected considering three factors. First, this area demands relatively large amount of irrigation water because most of the land is used as a paddy field and the proportion of the paddy field within total arable land is increasing. Second, groundwater level data in nearby area are available since these are monitored by Water Management Information System (WAMIS). Third, many groundwater pumping stations have been developed in this area in order to overcome droughts thus detail information for pumping stations are available. Regression results indicate groundwater level has been decreased for over 20 years. This decreasing trend is due to the shortage of surface irrigation water which was caused by the decrease in rainfall.

  • In this paper we analyze Ziv's geometrical differentiated teaching and learning materials using inner structure of mathematics problems. In order to analyze inner structure of mathematics problems we in detail describe problem solving process, and extract main frame from problem solving process. We represent inner structure of mathematics problems as tree including induced relations. As a result, we characterize low-level problems and middle-level problems, and find some differences between low-level problems and middle-level problems.

  • This paper proposes a maximum efficiency operation strategy for three-level T-type inverter in entire operation areas. The three-level T-type inverter has higher and lower efficiency areas compared with two-level inverter. The proposed strategy aims to operate in the maximum efficiency point for the low-voltage and low-power home appliances. The three-level T-type inverter is analyzed in detail, and the two operation mode selection strategy is developed. The proposed algorithm is verified by theoretical analysis and experimental results.

  • Submetering electricity consumption data enables more detail input of end use components, such as lighting, plug, HVAC, and occupancy in building energy modeling. However, such an modeling efforts and results are rarely tried and published in terms of the estimation accuracy of electricity demand. In this research, actual submetering data obtained from a university building is analyzed and provided for building energy modeling practice. As alternative modeling cases, conventional modeling method (Case-1), using reference schedule per building usage, and main metering data based modeling method (Case-2) are established. Detail efforts are added to derive prototypical schedules from the metered data by introducing variability index. The simulation results revealed that Case-1 showed the largest error as we can expect. And Case-2 showed comparative error relative to Case-3 in terms of total electricity estimation. But Case-2 showed about two times larger error in CV (RMSE) in lighting energy demand due to lack of End Use consumption information.

  • FAA AC120-40B Level D flight dynamics model for T-50 Full Mission Trainer was successfully developed. Since AC120-40B Level D requires the quantitative validation tests for simulation model compared with flight test data, T-50 flight test data for each validation test item was gathered, and also automatic test environments which include AFT (Automatic Fidelity Tester) and STA (Simulation Test Analyzer) were developed. The final test results after the iterative test-tuning processes were all within the tolerances specified in AC120-40B Level D. Qualification Test Guide, QTG contains the detail test processes and results.

  • A large scale polygon models are often used to approximately represent 3D CAD models in Digital Engineering environment such as DMU (Digital Mockups) and network based collaborative design. However, they are not suitable for distribution on the network and for interactive rendering. We introduce a new coding system based on subdivision schemes called S-CODE system. In this system, it is possible to highly compress the model with sufficient accuracy and to view the model efficiently in a level of detail (LOD) fashion. The method is based on subdivision surface fitting by which a subdivision surface and curves which approximate a face of a CAD model are generated. We also apply a subdivision method to analytic surfaces such as conical and cylindrical surfaces. A prototype system is developed and used for evaluation with reasonably complicated data. The results show that the method is useful as a CAD data coding system.
