  • Several types of methods such as resistivity survey, ground penetration radar, etc are used for detection of levee leakage and according to the river design guidelines detection of levee leakage is performed by measuring the hydraulic conductivity of levee soil. But, the former can not verify the leakage point and degree of saturation, the latter is an after treatment method. Movable sensor, which is a high-tech TDR system developed since 2000, can obtain directly the dielectric constant profile covering the whole depth of levee. In this study, laboratory and field model experiments were carried out using movable TDR sensor in order to evaluate the applicability as detection system of levee leakage, As the result, movable TDR system has proven to be 3 times more sensitive to water contents than dry unit weight, and the results conclude that the dielectric constant, water contents and density of the ground proved to have a correlation among them, and the dielectric constant is expected to be a basic data on detection of levee leakage.

  • The river levee collapse and flood damages are dramatically increased due to the floods which caused by abnormal weather nowadays. The counterplan like TDR(Time Domain Reflectometry) river levee leaking exploration technique is needed to that levee failure causes of levee failure such as levee failure by penetration, piping, inadequate levee materials selection, poor compaction are almost 52% of the failure. This research practiced various comparing experiments of existing TDR(probe and tube types) and developing CAP type TDR to evaluate acrylic small CAP mould and low-cost TDR levee leaking monitoring system which was used probe type TDR. As the result, evaluated TDR system had 20cm critical exploration performance which was a leaking exploration performance, The functional ratio of TDR exploration sensitivity of dry density was sensitive more than 3 times than dry density, and weathered granite soil foundation water contents(w)-dielectric constant(${\epsilon}$) corelation formula was suggested to measure functional ratio on developing cap type TDR system.

  • Conventional monitoring method is used for evaluation of the reservoir and levee at the highest height sections. In recent years, automated measurement technology has been developed, and the measurement results are transmitted, collected and stored in real time into management office. Despite the development of real time monitoring technology, the measurement results are not used directly or indirectly with facility management at real time. Recently, as wireless sensor network measurement technology has been developed based on internet of things, this study proposed a real - time measurement and evaluation system based on wireless sensor network technology in the reservoir structure. As a result of the seepage analysis for the application, it was confirmed that the volumetric water content changes together with the change of the seepage line inside the embankment body according to the change of the water level of the embankment. In other words, the applicability of the measurement system with the volumetric water ratio set as the sensor node was verified.

  • In order to assess the safety diagnosis and grouting reinforcement effect of old reservoir facility, local governments and public offices mainly use electrical resistivity survey. However, electrical resistivity survey is a qualitative evaluation that varies the resistivity value by various exploration conditions. It is also difficult to grasp the stiffness change directly related to the stability of reservoir, thus an electrical resistivity survey is not applicable to continuous stability monitoring after grouting. The purpose of this study is to investigate and validate the quantitative evaluation of reinforcement effect of reservoir with cement grouting through shear velocity (Vs), which is closely related to the stiffness (${\mu}$) of the ground. This study was carried out on two reservoir facilities. The reinforcement effect was evaluated by comparing the permeability test, standard penetration test, down-hole test and MASW(Multi-channel Analysis of Surface wave) survey before and after cement grouting. Shear wave velocity changes before and after grouting were analyzed by phase velocity difference and inversion analysis, respectively, and the reliability of the analytical results was evaluated by comparing with field test results. Shear wave velocity increases to 5~10% in case of the D levee, and 10~20% in the levee of H reservoir. These results are showed similar pattern to the field test results.

  • We investigated characteristics of channel morphology, flora and vegetation distribution at the main and the abandoned channels of the Hwangguji Stream and the Cheongmi Stream. The analysis of aerial photographs and old topographical maps showed that the abandoned channels were made by cut-off from the main channel due to the construction of artificial levee. The total number of species and percentage of exotic plants at the main channels were higher than those at the abandoned channels. At the abandoned channel, the percentage of species number of hydrophytes and hygrophytes was higher than those at the main channels in the both stream. The results of principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the floral structure between at the main and the abandoned channel was more similar in the Hwangguji Stream than that in the Cheongmi Stream. The relative distribution areas of hydrophytes and hygrophytes at two abandoned channels were much higher than those at the main channels in the both stream. The dominant plant was an emergent macrophyte, Zizania latifolia at two abandoned channels. Therefore, flora and vegetation at the abandoned channel showed more hydric and lentic characteristics and provided diversity on the landscape level.

  • Biopolymer is a general concept for high molecular compounds produced by living organisms. Among them, the xanthan and β-glucan, which are organic polymer mixture produced by micro-organisms, are mainly used to increase the viscosity of a substance. And diluting in water and mixing with sand or clay can increase compressive strength and shear strength. In this study, mixed soil prepared by mixing soil with xanthan and beta-glucan based biopolymers specially developed for the purpose of increasing soil strength was applied to the river bank revetment, and changes during winter were measured using ground LiDAR. As a result of analyzing winter changes in major sections using three-dimensional point cloud data obtained through ground LiDAR, there were no changes to the extent that it was difficult to confirm with the naked eye in the two sections coated with biopolymer blended soil. However, soil loss due to Rill erosion was confirmed in the natural embankment section where biopolymer blended soil was not used.
