Continuous efforts are being made to improve the efficiency of Si solar cells, which is the prevailing technology at this time. As opposed to the standard front-lit solar cell design, the back-lit design suffers no shading loss because all the metal electrodes are placed on one side close to the pn junction, which is referred to as the front side, and the incoming light enters the denuded back side. In this study, a systematic comparison between the two designs was conducted by means of computer simulation. Medici, a two-dimensional semiconductor device simulation tool, was utilized for this purpose. The $0.6{\mu}m$ wavelength, the peak value for the AM-1.5 illumination, was chosen for the incident photons, and the minority-carrier recombination lifetime (${\tau}$), a key indicator of the Si substrate quality, was the main variable in the simulation on a p-type $150{\mu}m$ thick Si substrate. Qualitatively, minority-carrier recombination affected the short circuit current (Isc) but not the opencircuit voltage (Voc). The latter was most affected by series resistance associated with the electrode locations. Quantitatively, when ${\tau}{\leq}500{\mu}s$, the simulation yielded the solar cell power outputs of $20.7mW{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ and $18.6mW{\cdot}cm^{-2}$, respectively, for the front-lit and back-lit cells, a reasonable 10 % difference. However, when ${\tau}$ < $500{\mu}s$, the difference was 20 % or more, making the back-lit design less than competitive. We concluded that the back-lit design, despite its inherent benefits, is not suitable for a broad range of Si solar cells but may only be applicable in the high-end cells where float-zone (FZ) or magnetic Czochralski (MCZ) Si crystals of the highest quality are used as the substrate.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of weight-bearing training with an elastic band during functional electrical stimulation (FES) on walking and balance functions in stroke patients. Methods: Twenty patients with chronic stroke were divided into an experimental group assigned to weight-bearing training with an elastic band during functional electrical stimulation (FES; n=10) and a control group assigned to weight-bearing training alone during FES (n=10). The patients in both groups attended physical therapy sessions five times a week for four consecutive weeks. The experimental group underwent weight-bearing training with an elastic band during FES five times a week for four weeks. The control group underwent weight-bearing training during FES. Balance parameters were measured before and after the intervention using the Balancia program. Moreover, all patients were evaluated using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), the Time Up and Go Test (TUGT), and the Wisconsin Gait Scale (WGS) before and after each intervention. Results: The results showed that weight-bearing training with elastic bands during FES and weight-bearing training during FES had a significant effect on the affected side's weight-bearing ratio, BBS, TUGT, and WGS in both groups (p <0.05). Additionally, the results showed that the changes observed in the two groups indicate significant differences in path length, average speed, BBS score, TUGT time, and WGS score between the groups (p < 0.05). Conclusion: In patients with stroke, weight-bearing training with an elastic band during FES affected on walking and balance. Therefore, it is an optional intervention for the balance and walking ability of stroke patients.
Objective: Congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is a disease with abnormal head and neck posture in infants. It affects the child's movement and development and can lead to complications. Therefore, this study aims to find out what factors influence the rehabilitation treatment duration of infants with CMT. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: The subjects were 63 infants under 90 days of age who were diagnosed with CMT. Age, thickness of the sternocleidomastoid muscle (SCM) on the affected and non-affected side, head tilt angle, and head rotation angle of the affected head in infants were collected. The ratio of muscle thickness was calculated from the thickness of the affected SCM and the thickness of the non-affected SCM (A/N ratio). All subjects underwent conservative physical therapy twice a week for 30 minutes, and the end of the treatment was when the angle of head tilt was normal or less than 5 degrees, and the treatment duration was calculated. Results: Age, thickness of affected SCM, and head tilt were significantly correlated with treatment duration (p<0.05). The thickness of the non-affected SCM, A/N ratio, and head rotation angle did not show any correlation with treatment duration. The factors affecting the treatment duration were head tilt and age, showing 21% explanatory power of adjusted R2. Conclusions: The main factors affecting the treatment duration of infants with CMT are head tilt and age. Therefore, more attention should be directed to the infant's head tilt and age for effective physical therapy of infants with CMT.

In this paper, we investigated the characteristics of SF-MPAA depend on the structures of radiators when they were embroidered for realizing embroidered SF-MPAA. As increasing pitches by decreasing numbers of grids in length-direction and width-direction of the embroidered radiator the antenna gain and resonance frequency were trendingly decreased. However the characteristics of antenna were affected very much by the pitch in width-direction but affected relatively less by the pitch in length-direction. Therefore it was beneficial to decrease number of grids in length-direction to decrease conductor ratio. SLL was affected by the combination of length-direction pitch and width-direction pitch. The conductor ratio of embroidered radiator was determined by the ratio of pitch to embroidered thread thickness. When the ratio was less than 5 the conductor ratio was decreased rapidly. But when the ratio was larger than 5 the conductor ratio was decreased slowly and saturated.
This paper is the results of analysis for the causes and characteristics of landslide according to heavy rain occurred in west area of Gangwon province which is affected by typhoon such as Ewiniar and Bilis in 2006. West side of Gangwon province is topographically weak for the landslide and debris flow since it is covered by soil of weathered rock such as Gneiss and Granite. From the results of analysis for the rainfall characteristics, it was found that landslide occurrence is closely related to the accumulated rainfall amount less than 3 days. Furthermore, it was found that regional difference of occurrence frequency is effected by 1-hour maximum rainfall intensity. From the results of analysis for the landslide data of 860 locations occurred in west side, it was shown that failure mode was changed from transition slide to liquidity slide. Occurrence frequency was high at the slope angle of $20{\sim}30^{\circ}$ slope length of 11~20, and slope width of 6~10. Landslide of west side is the typical landslide of Gneiss and Granite and the type of small scale which has narrow slope width.

The present study investigates to improve the film cooling performance on the vane endwall. Numerical simulation was conducted to analyze film cooling characteristics on the vane endwall. Six different hole arrangements were designed considering flow characteristics on the endwall. The results showed that the film cooling effectiveness was low on the pressure side and nozzle throat in the base case, because coolant was deflected from the pressure side to the suction side. On the other hand, when the holes were installed near the pressure side, the film cooling effectiveness was enhanced on the pressure side and nozzle throat, because the coolant was less affected by cross flow. Therefore, the film cooling effectiveness increases about 16% compared to the base hole arrangement.
Although the reward based on group accomplishment in cooperative learning has a merit to emphasize interdependency, it may have some undesirable side effects such as free rider effect and sucker effect. For the purpose of reducing these side effects, this study examined how the adjustment of the reward structure affected the scholastic achievement, the perception of learning environments, and the attitude toward science class by adding individual reward to group reward. We selected 2 classes of sixth grade in an elementary school, and taught on oxygen and carbon dioxide for 13 class hours in cooperative learning strategies. Group reward was applied to one class, and both group and individual rewards were applied to the other class. Analysis of the results indicated that the achievement scores of the students under the group and individual rewards were significantly higher than those under the group reward. In addition, they had more difficulty in science class and felt less satisfied. The upper level students under the group and individual rewards were also found to exhibit more competition. Educational implications were discussed.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of wearing various types of shoes on gait ability in stroke survivors and in order to gain information in regards to shoes that could possibly replace ankle orthosis. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Eight hemiplegic survivors diagnosed with stroke participated in the study. Gait was analyzed using the GAITRite Electronic Walkway (CIR System Inc., USA) when subjects walked with no showed, walked with non-ankle-covered shoes, and walked with ankle-covered shoes. This study collected gait variables, including velocity, cadence, step length, stride length, single support time, and double support time, respectively. Results: In the comparison of walking with no shoes, non-ankle-covered shoes, and ankle-covered shoes, there were significant differences in gait velocity, step length, stride length, and the less affected side single support time (p<0.05). However, there were no significant differences in cadence, affected side single support time, and double support time. Conclusions: Ankle-covered shoes had a positive impact on the gait of stroke survivors. However, it is necessary to conduct more studies comparing various types of shoes with ankle orthoses.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of unilateral sciatic nerve injury on unaffected hindlimb muscles of rats. Methods: Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to one of three groups: control(C) group(n=10) that had no procedures, sham(S) group(n=10) that underwent sham left sciatic nerve transection, and sciatic nerve transection(SNT) group(n=9) that underwent left sciatic nerve transection. At 15 days rats were anesthetized, and the soleus, plantaris and gastrocnemius muscles were dissected. Results: Muscle weight of the unaffected plantaris muscle in the SNT group was significantly lower than in the other two groups. Type II fiber cross-sectional areas of the unaffected plantaris and gastrocnemius muscles in the SNT group were significantly smaller than in the other two groups. The decrease of muscle weights and Type I, II fiber cross-sectional areas of the unaffected three muscles in the SNT group were significantly less than that of the affected three muscles. Conclusion: Hindlimb muscle atrophy occurs in the unaffected side after unilateral sciatic nerve injury, with changes in the plantaris and gastrocnemius muscle being more apparent than changes in the soleus muscle. These results have implications for nursing care, in the need to assess degree of muscle atrophy in unaffected muscles as well as affected muscles.
Background: This study was to investigate the relationship between scapular downward rotation ratio (SDRR), lower trapezius (LT) muscle, and rounded shoulder angle (RSA) on each side in subjects with scapular downward rotation syndrome (SDRS). Design: Cross-sectional Study Methods: Fifteen subjects have participated in this study. The RSA and SDRR were assessed using a tape measure in standing posture. The RSA was computed by the angle made by two lines: one was the distance between the root of the scapula and the acromion, and the other was the distance between the acromion and the horizontal line in the root of the scapula. The SDRR was computed by two horizontal lines: one was the distance between the mid-line and root of the scapula, and the other was the distance between the mid-line and inferior angle of the scapula. LT muscle strength was performed in a prone position by the hand-held dynamometer. Results: There was a positive correlation between SDRR and LT strength in the less affected sides (r=.59; p=.02), however, there was no correlation between RSA and LT strength in the more affected sides (p>.05).
