This study estimated how much carbon can be sequestered if we plant trees in non-forested areas in the 36 hole Oak Valley Golf Courses in Gangwon Province, Korea. We identified plantable areas where planting trees will not affect golf game using high resolution aerial photography and ground survey and estimated the annual carbon sequestration rate of the planted trees using biomass equations. Of the golf courses, 30.3% were covered by forest. Other major land cover types include lawn, waterbody, baresoil, buildings, and roads. The plantable areas consist of $106,101m^2$ of lawn (6.0% of the study site) and $177,531m^2$ of low density forest (10.1% of the study site). We assumed to plant Mongolian oaks with 10 cm in diameter at brest height with the density of $0.3/m^2$ in the lawn and $0.2/m^2$ in the low density forest. The planting simulation shows that the total number of the newly planted trees were 67,336, and the total carbon sequestered during the subsequent year was 392.9 tC/yr, which offset 12.5% of the total carbon emitted from the golf courses. The annual carbon sequestration rate gradually increases and reaches its maximum level at 440.5 tC/yr in 15 years since the initial reforestation (14.0% of the carbon emission from the golf courses).

In the modern society, a growth in the non-profit sector and a decrease in the government budget on social welfare result in a greater need of individual giving and volunteering. Therefore, in order to manage non-profit organizations effectively, it is necessary to encourage citizen participation in giving and volunteering through identifying various factors affecting giving and volunteering. In order to identify what factors are affecting participation in giving and volunteering and whether the relationship between giving and volunteering is multiplicative or compensatory, this study uses multinomial logistic regression analysis by categorizing four groups based on the participation types of giving and volunteering. The research findings confirmed that common factors such as religion and satisfaction with leisure time were still significant, and specific factors were also found among factors affecting participation in giving and volunteering. Especially, this study identified that factors affecting giving and volunteering differ according to household income, education level, employment status, gender and social relationship satisfaction. The findings confirmed that giving and volunteering are compensatory behaviors. Finally, the implications of this study were discussed. A differential strategy for giving and volunteering is needed to encourage citizen participation in non-profit organizations.
Purpose: Bicycle riding is an increasingly popular sports and leisure activity in Korea. The aim of this study was to identify injury patterns of admitted patients who were injured from bicycle riding. Materials and Methods: This study examined 71 patients from Jan. 2008 to May 2009. There were 54 male and 17 female patients. We investigated the injured body parts, mechanisms of injury, location of injury, types of bicycles, purpose of bicycle riding, any concomitant luggage or passenger on rear seat, injury seasons and the helmet use. We analyzed the data using Injury Severity Score(ISS). Results: There were 11 cases of ISS 1, 41 cases of ISS 4, 2 cases of ISS 5, 13 cases of ISS 9, one case of ISS 13, two cases of ISS 16 and one case of ISS 29 among the 71 patients. 36 patients(50.7%) underwent surgery for upper and lower extremity injuries, two patients for vertebral body fractures, 8 patients for facial bone injuries and one patient for abdominal organ injury. There were 10 head injuries among whom three patients received treatment in ICU(4.2%). Conclusion: Bicycle riding can cause severe injuries with subsequent admission and major surgeries. The study showed that directional Shared Leadership and transformational Shared Leadership positively influences the relationship between Shared Leadership and interpersonal relationships in the view of organizational wellbeing. In addition, in the relationship between Shared Leadership and rewarding job experience of organizational wellbeing, three leadership types excluding directional Shared Leadership had positive effects. In addition, transformational Shared Leadership and empowering Shared Leadership had a positive impact on the relationship between Shared Leadership and organizational mood of organizational wellbeing. In the relationship between Shared Leadership and a sense of fulfillment in the view of organizational wellbeing, transformational Shared Leadership only had a positive effect. As is the case with the sense of fulfillment, the transformational Shared Leadership, of and itself, positively influenced the relationship between Shared Leadership and leisure of life of organizational wellbeing. A analysis of the study showed that transformational Shared Leadership has an impact on both organizational wellbeing and personal wellbeing. Transformational Shared Leadership helps set up mutual vision or strategies, or to challenge each other to enhance existing processes and procedures. On the other hand, directional Shared Leadership influences the interpersonal relations only, whereas transactional Shared Leadership impacts rewarding job experience only. Presenting clearer ideas on what to do to each other and sharing the reward for performance implies that the members of an organization can feel much more rewarded through job engagement.
The grid cell analysis is used to select good sites as habitats at the region. The northern area of Yeongjong Island, Incheon has been disturbing by habitat loss due to human activities such as residential development, deforestation. In order to determine significant places as bird habitats and to select conservation areas at this island, the study area was divided into 70 grid cells($500{\times}500m$ each grid) and then each grid was ranked by spatial analysis using the species diversity index. Fieldwork was carried out in Spring and Autumn of 2010. To examine grid cells which were ranked high in both seasons in common, we used the average ranking value, combined data from two seasons. This area consists of mainly agricultural areas and forests(more than 68%) among eight habitat types: the agricultural land, forest, coast, lake, meadow, stream, city and other things. A total of 110 species was recorded: 4,183 birds of 102 species in Spring and 3,326 birds of 58 species in Autumn. In other words, the number of individuals and species was higher in Spring than in Autumn. Species diversity index presented the highest value at M8 grid cell in Spring(3.380) and at A4 gird cell in Autumn(2.736). In 18 of 22 grid cells where the average ranking value was higher than 3, the forest was distributed and in 4 grid cells, the coast and wetland were widely distributed, in which theses were located apart from human-associated disturbances such as construction works for a leisure complex. Our results present a new estimate method not only to minimize loss of bird habitats but also to conserve important habitats when the large-scale development takes place at particular region.
Today's public libraries in communities are on the processes of changes to integrate information and communication technology into traditional library system in order to support current users' demands for the new digital era. The purpose of this study is to examine the changing characters on space design and space uses of community based public libraries by conducting case studies of three branch libraries which were built after 2004 in Ann Arbor, Michigan in the United States. As the conclusion of this research, the findings of the case studies are utilized as basic data for planning and design guidelines for public libraries as community resources. The study summarizes the characteristics of space design and space uses in public libraries as follow; first, the floor plans of small-scale public libraries are open visually as well as spatially. The space organization of the libraries is arranged by potential noise levels, as placing noisy spaces near the entrance halls and quiet spaces at the back. Main book shelves are located in the middle of the library buildings, while seats are arranged along the window sides. By placing various kinds of furniture in open reading areas, library users can select different types of seats and tables for their comforts. Second. the survey of observation also finds that a large number of users often use library computers and personal computers to connect the internet at the libraries. These personal computer users who are new user group in community based libraries preferred to sit in casual study areas and individual tables with one or two seats only. Third, the libraries, in addition, develop and provide various programs and events for people in communities. Especially, the programs for children, the elderly and new comers from the abroad are well prepared, thus provide opportunities for them to visit the libraries in regular bases. The survey finds that family entertainment and leisure activities are the important parts of the program as well as renting music CD and movie DVD are also important reasons for people to come. Thus, the libraries prepare high quality children's space and CD shelves near the entrance hall.
Welfare desire has been diversified according to the increase of economic level and rapid social change. The desire for comprehensive service on culture, medical, mental and information level has appeared. Accordingly, it is necessary to establish an integrated community mixed-support facility, a space of accepting administration, welfare, leisure, culture and informatization request in a small local community in the future. The community mixed-support facility is a meeting place of local resident for information change, various basic service and ultimately for activation of community in order to contribute to regeneration and activation of existing urban core. Thus, this study figured out general status of community mixed-support facility and physical mixed type and analyzed spatial characteristics. Current community mixed-support facility has insufficient program and space to participate in by local residents and to accommodate mixed function. The future planned community mixed-support facility must secure multiple opportunities for various types of life by returning time and cost to user through the introduction of creative mixed concept. While reflecting unique local characteristics, and considering diversity of users, it needs to make mixed facility to cope with social changes. This study is limited in that the study reached a conclusion by survey and analysis only. However, it is expected that the result can be used as basic research data for the planning of community mixed-support facility to cope with living conditions of local residents or realistic requirements.
