The major findings are the followings: 1) Full-time homemakers spend 353 minutes(5.9 hours) on the average per day on the leisure. Time for active leisure(creative activities, sports activities, spectator events, going to the party, and so on) is 70 minutes, while that for passive leisure(watching TV. listening to the radio, reading newspapers. magazines. Books, chating, relaxing, card playing) is 283 minutes(4.7 hours). The passive leisure is the main type of spending leisure time. 2) The total leisure time of wives is significantly related to SES factors. The higher the wives age and education, the family income, and the age of the latest child, the more the wives total leisure time. But the more the family numbers, and the child numbers, the lower the leisure time. Active leisure time is highly rela ed to family income, while passive leisure time is considerably family composition. 3) The wives are mostly satisfied with their lives. The wives perceptions of the quality of life is related to wives's education, house type, and family income. 4) The wives total leisure time is not related to the quality of life. There is a positive correlation between active leisure time and the quality of life, while a negative relationship is between passive leisure time and the perception of the quality of life. 5) In analysis of causal model, it appears that family income and active leisure time of wives directly affect the perceived quality of life. The more the family income and active leisure time, the higher the quality of life. it is implicated for wives to take and active attitude and to reduce, if possible, passive leisure time and to increase active leisure time.
This study explores how unmarried workers use their leisure time according to the 2009 Korean Time Use Survey. The purposes of this study are: 1) to investigate leisure time as it relates to leisure participation rates and leisure participation time and 2) to analyze the effect of socio-demographic variables on leisure time and leisure participation by unmarried workers. The following is a summary of the major findings. First, leisure participation differed with variations in leisure activities. Unmarried workers participated in media contact, human relations activities, and hobby activities more than other activities. Participation in learning activities was higher on weekdays than on Sunday. Men participated in sports and outdoor activities more than women on Sundays. The participation rate of media contact was the highest, while the participation rate of volunteer activities was the lowest. Second, influencing factors on leisure time included gender, age, monthly income, and gender role attitudes when work time was controlled. For example, unmarried workers with egalitarian attitudes spent less leisure time. Third, gender was the strongest determinant of leisure participation. The probability of women's leisure participation was higher than men except in regards to sports and outdoor activities, and hobby activities.

In recent years, leisure time has received increasing attention in Korean society. Despite the growing interest, however, there are very few studies that explored shared leisure time, especially among married couples. In this light, the present study examined variations in shared leisure time by demographic characteristics and associations between shared leisure time and quality of marital relationship. We used the third wave of the national data KLoWF (Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families, 9,997 19-64 years old women). The study sample included 5,965 married women with no prior history of divorce. Results showed that Korean wives reported very little shared leisure time with their husbands. Given that the mean of the shared leisure time reported by employed women was significantly lower than that of the un-employed, we speculated that the time constraint may be one of the major barriers to having leisure time with one's spouse among Korean married couples. Married women in their 30's had the most frequent couple leisure time. The younger wives in their 20s had more cultural leisure time with their husbands, but sharing outdoor leisure time was not related to their age. The higher level of education for women was associated with greater shared active leisure time. However, visiting a husband's family often took place regardless of the wives' education level. After controlling for age, years of education, job status and annual family income, shared active leisure time (i.e., cultural activity and exercise) was positively related to marital satisfaction. Visiting one's own family, however, was not considered a leisure activity for Korean wives. Rather, frequent family visits were related to lower marital satisfaction. Findings shed light on how leisure life of married women with spouses are intertwined with not only their socioeconomic status and but also marital relationship in culturally unique ways.
The purposes of this study were to investigated ; 1) The amount of shared leisure time with spouses. 20 The differences of the mount of shared leisure time according to socio-demographic variables. 3) The relationship between marital satisfaction and the amount of shared leisure time. Data for 291 couples were gather from using structured questionnaire and time diary. The major findings were ; 1) Spouses spent together 2 hours and 8 minutes on the average per day in leisure. Time for active leisure was 1 hour and 36 minutes, while that for passive leisure was 32 minutes. 2) The total shared leisure time were significantly related to husband's age, degree of husband's education, and employment status of wife. The active shared leisure time were related number of children and husband's age. and the passive shared leisure time were related to degree of husband's education, and employment status of wife. 3) The more couples spent together in leisure, the higher their marital satisfaction became.
Leisure time may be used to participate in activities alone, with family, or with other people. The purpose of this research was to identify types of leisure time with whom and determinants of the types. The data source for this research was the '2009 Time Use Survey' conducted by the Korea National Statistical Office (KNSO). The item 'people involved in each activity' was surveyed for the first time by KNSO in 2009. 3,712 diaries completed by married adults aged 20 to 59 years were analyzed using chi-square, cluster analysis, and logistic regression analysis. Leisure time with whom was classified into four types based on three categories of leisure time (alone, with family, with others): "individual-oriented leisure," "family-oriented leisure," "others-oriented leisure," and "vulnerable leisure." These types were different by various socio-economic variables. And gender, work time, the presence of preschool children, and household type were identified as important determinants for the types.
The purpose of this study was to assess gender differences in the quantity and quality of leisure time. It uses time diary for a nationally representative sample of Koreans(10 years old over) collected in 2004 by KNSO. This time use surveys provide information about a primary activity and a secondary activity (that is simultaneous activity accompanying the primary activity). The results was that married women experience less of leisure time and more contaminated leisure time by a secondary activity(especially household labor) than married men. This research presents that men and women have different quantity and quality of leisure time, and gender discrepancies persist in the experience of leisure time.
Time pressure and financial burden have been reported as the main constraints on leisure participation. The purpose of this study was to explore a typology of leisure constraints, investigate the characteristics of leisure constraint types, and analyze the differences in leisure participation by the types of leisure constraints for married employees. The data source for this research was the 2009 Time Use Survey conducted by the Korea National Statistical Office (KNSO). Married employees aged 20 to 59 years completed 13,476 time diaries (7,984 for male, 5,492 for female), which were analyzed using chi-square, cluster analysis, and ANOVA analysis. Leisure constraints were classified into five types in two categories, working time per week and personal income for both males and females respectively. The three types for both males and females were time-income constraints, income constraints, and general constraints, with an additional type for men, $time^+$-income constraints, and an additional type for women, time constraint. The most common type was general constraints, for both males and females. Each type was further differentiated by the following socio-economic variables: age, educational level, job type, and weekly day-off. The study found that participation in study, sports, and religious activities varied with the types of leisure constraints.
