The purpose of this study was to identify whether or not in one-leg vertical jump of each limb asymmetry between both sides is present and to identify how the discrepancies between both limbs affect two-leg jumping performance, that is bilateral deficit. We had 13 healthy subjects perform one-leg jump for both sides and two-leg countermovement jump. The result of biomechanical analysis showed significantly difference of 4-7% in net impulses and work output between dominant and non-dominant one-leg jump and bilateral deficit of 24% when sum of those of each one-leg jump was compared with two-leg jump. But asymmetry in lower extremity was not significantly correlated with bilateral deficit. Two-leg jump could be characterized by relatively short propulsion time, long propulsion distance and high joint angular velocity compared with one-leg jump. These factors seemed to contribute to decreased performance in two-leg jump. Furthermore bilateral deficit was attributed to lower activities of extensor muscles found in two-leg jump.
Purpose: Leg-crossing sitting is very common for men and woman. No solid evidence exists for either a beneficial or a detrimental effect of this posture. This study investigated the change of activities of trunk muscles between the normal group and the low back pain group during various leg-crossing positions. Methods: The subjects were consisted of 10 subjects who don't have low back pain and 10 subjects who have low back pain. In this study, we used electromyography(EMG) to evaluate the activities of both the trunk muscles (rectus abdominis, external oblique, internal oblique, and multifidus) during various leg-crossing positions (up-right, leg-crossing, tailor-crossing, and ankle-crossing). We analyzed the data by using repeated one way ANOVA. Results: In normal group, there were increased in EMG activities of trunk muscles, but no significant differences during leg-crossing positions. In back pain group, there were increased in EMG activities of right external oblique, left. internal oblique, and both multifidus muscles in leg-crossing and tailor-crossing position, but no significant differences during leg-crossing positions. There was no significant difference of muscle activity of trunk muscles between the back pain group and the normal group. Conclusion: We suggest that low back pain people who have weak muscles of rectus abdominis, external and internal oblique are often experienced in leg-crossing posture than normal. To compensate this unstability of trunk, leg-crossing posture is substituted passive structure for activities of active muscle.
During a design process of a protective equipment for sports activities, minimizing movement restrictions is important for enhancing its functions particularly for protection. This study presents a three-dimensional(3D) modeling methodology for designing baseball catcher's leg guards that will allow maximum possible performance, while providing necessary protection. 3D scanning is performed on three positions frequently used by a catcher during the course of a game by putting markings on the subject's legs at 3cm intervals : a standing, a half squat with knees bent to 90 degrees and 120 degrees of knee flexion. Using data obtained from the 3D scan, we analyzed the changes in skin length, radii of curvatures, and cross-sectional shapes, depending on the degree of knee flexion. The results of the analysis were used to decide an on the ideal segmentation of the leg guards by modeling posture. Knee flexions to 90 degrees and to $120^{\circ}$ induced lengthwise extensions than a standing. In particular, the vertical length from the center of the leg increases to a substantially higher degree when compared to those increased from the inner and the outer side of the leg. The degree of extension is varied by positions. Therefore, the leg guards are segmented at points where the rate of increase changed. It resulted in a three-part segmentation of the leg guards at the thigh, the knee, and the shin. Since the 120 degree knee-flexion posture can accommodate other positions as well, the related 3D data are used for modeling Leg Guard (A) with the loft method. At the same time, Leg Guard (B) was modeled with two-part segmentation without separating the knee and the shin as in existing products. A biomechanical analysis of the new design is performed by simulating a 3D dynamic analysis. The analysis revealed that the three-part type (A) leg guards required less energy from the human body than the two-part type (B).
Background: The aim of this study was to assess the change in radiating leg pain after traffic accidents in patients with and without herniated intervertebral disc (HIVD) and improvement of radiating leg pain after traffic accidents. Methods: This was an retrospective study of 188 patients. Patients who had been admitted to the Hospital of Korean Medicine with the complaint of radiating leg pain after traffic accidents, and who had undergone lumbar spine magnetic resonance imaging to determine the presence or absence of HIVD were observed from April to June 2016. We analyzed sex, age, length of admission, direction (to a single leg or to both legs) and locations, (medial, anterior, lateral or posterior side of the lower limb) of radiating leg pain, presence or absence of HIVD, and number, grade and position of HIVD. The Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) were used to evaluate the impact of radiating leg pain on patients. Results: Radiating leg pain NRS score decreased significantly in both the HIVD group (from $6.12{\pm}2.39$ to $4.31{\pm}1.87$, p < 0.001) and the no HIVD group (from $5.76{\pm}1.64$ to $3.85{\pm}1.41$, p < 0.001). ODI score also decreased significantly in both groups (HIVD, from $44.67{\pm}17.38$ to $26.83{\pm}13.18$; no HIVD, from $39.24{\pm}15.58$ to $19.69{\pm}12$.; both p < 0.001). Conclusion: There was no significant change in radiating leg pain after traffic accidents in patients with and without HIVD and improvement of radiating leg pain after traffic accidents.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of leg crossing on reducing orthostatic hypotension and orthostatic hypotension symptoms in hemodialysis patients. Methods: A one-group pretest-posttest design was used. A total of 40 post-hemodialysis adult patients were enrolled, excluding the case of intradialysis hypotension, unbalance of standing with leg crossing, adding antihypertensive medications. Blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) were measured in supine and standing positions. After a week, BP and HR were measured in supine and standing with leg crossing position. Orthostatic hypotension symptoms were also measured by self-reported structured questionnaire in standing without leg crossing and with leg crossing position. Results: We found out that systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and mean arterial pressure increased significantly in standing with crossing leg position applied (p=.006, p=.001, p=.006). However, presences of orthostatic hypotension symptoms were not significantly decreased in standing with leg crossing position (p=.500, p=.318, p=.306, p=.241, p=.356, p=.500, p=.241, p=.308). Conclusion: This study shows that leg crossing is effective for reducing orthostatic hypotension without additional cost or instruments. Leg crossing as one of the preventive interventions to reduce orthostatic hypotension is easier and simpler to be implemented in hemodialysis patients.
The aim of this study was to compare the physicochemical changes of hot-boned chicken breast and leg muscles. Chicken breast and leg muscles from 56 broilers were excised within a 15 min post-mortem (PM) and stored at $20^{\circ}C$. Physicochemical traits were determined at 0.5, 6, 12, and 24 h PM. The ultimate pH of leg muscle was higher than that of breast muscle (p<0.05). The content of glycogen in the breast muscle was relatively higher than that in the leg muscle until 6 h PM (p<0.05). R-values showing rigor mortis of breast and leg muscles were completed after or before 6 h PM. Breast muscle had less cooking loss than leg muscle (p<0.05). Drip loss did not significantly differ between breast and leg muscles with the exception of that at 6 h PM. The sarcomere length of leg muscle was relatively longer than that of breast muscle (p<0.05). The MFI of leg muscle was significantly lower than that of breast muscle (p<0.05). The shear force of leg muscle was lower than that of breast muscle at 6 and 12 h PM (p<0.05); however, that of both muscles did not significantly differ at 24 h PM.

The mixed convection heat transfer has been studied numerically for misaligned and parrallel arrays of two flat plates at 100.leg.Re.leg.700, 0.1.leg.B.leg.1.0, 0.2.leg.leg.PHI.$_{R}$.leg.1Gr=10$^{4}$ and Pr=0.71. For misaligned plates and parallel plates, the optimum plate spacings move to the narrow spacing as Reynolds number and .PHI.$_{R}$ increase and can be expressed by the correlation equations at Gr=10$^{4}$. The optimum plate spacings for parallel plates sharply move to the narrow spacing compared with misaligned plates. The maximum mean Nusselt number of parallel plates shows higher value than that of misaligned plates and can be expressed by the correlation equations at Gr=10$^{4}$.EX>.
This study reviews the common-mode noise model of indirect-contact ECG measurement which uses capacitive electrode and capacitive ground, and shows the reason of the large common-mode noise in indirect-contact ECG. And then, this study shows driven-right-leg ground in indirect-contact ECG measurement, and reviews how the driven-right-leg ground reduces the common-mode noise. This study then analyzes the relation between the effective area of the indirect-contact ground and the gain of the driven-right-leg circuit. This study introduces the output voltage saturation of the driven-right-leg circuit, which occurs frequently in indirect-contact ECG measurement with the condition of the high ground impedance. This study then shows the effect of the driven-right-leg circuit saturation on the common-mode noise.
